Well that didn't take me long to get tired of. I realized that the amount of dirt I shifted is puny for your plans but would have been a significant dig for my own plans. I mostly moved dirt because it looked like more progress, you should probably smash the chests outside your south gate with only a dozen stacks or so of cobblestone and too much dirt.
I'm gonna go start and fail a project.

HAHAHA! Yeah, I kinda have crazy scales in my builds. Trust me, though, any help is highly appreciated, especially with dirt. I hate digging dirt up. Have you at least had a look around before going? My basement, I've been told, is especially impressive. There's a piston elevator worked by a button at the bottom of the pit in the main room. And the Nether Portal would let you move about faster, if you want to get back to the Hub or Spawn. Just head West up the cliff to the cobble path in the Nether- sorry for the lack of N-side acommodations, those are still a work in progress.

Basement? Nope, I wasn't paying attention. I thought you were 80% Scale 20% Detail, so I didn't take time to look at any individual thing.
Also I have barely gone into the Nether. I'm a very paranoid person. So paranoid that I haven't died in MineCraft, ever. I'm always concerned when I go with a party that isn't as prepared or cautious as me, though they're probably having more fun than me... unless they die. But I have a feeling the lag will kill me soon enough since I've only played local multiplayer before.

Ooh, yeah. I'd suggest your first point of business will be to dig yourself into a mountain (a solid mountian) and get an underground farm set up. Get an area big enough for trees, some melons and wheat farms, carrots, taters, pull some pigs and cows (or mooshrooms) in- maybe make a mushroom farm.
Then seal yourself in the place- make sure it's well, well lit. And never, ever go afk. (also remember that there's baby zombies now that fit through 1 block gaps).
Actually, that could be an interesting challenge for you. Getting together what would essentially be a Fallout style Vault- self-contained, perfectly safe inside, maybe with failsafe equipment installed as well, so if the light level ever drops in an area it gets sealed off...

I never go AFK, I thought that was why some people enter the server and leave often, so they don't have their character standing around. Heck, just today, someone said over the chat that they died while they were AFK in a supposedly safe area and lost all their stuff.
I actually did intend to make a fully self sustainable, closed environment underground. Though not cramped like a vault. I tried to make a vault in single player before but any material that I could mass produce for walls just doesn't look good. Making room for farms, ranching, botany and everything else is easy. I'm sure someone like you could whip up the space simply. The problem is making it look good, which is actually made harder by having it underground and making it vault-like, so I have my own plans.

Firstly, no it isn't solely a desire for clay - if I'd wanted to use it as a quarry I would have called it a quarry. Secondly, it is a very long way away from any areas under your control - and isn't even a massive part of the biome in which it sits so I'm not sure how you could justify any displeasure. Thirdly, I do not appreciate snarky posts - I have never claimed "massive and awesome" and furthermore, my builds are not subject to approval from the other members of the server (assuming that I am not building on somebody else's doorstep ... which I take pains not to).
While constructive criticism is always welcome, I'd rather it was applied to builds I have already completed rather than projects that are still in the preparation/planning stage.
If you're genuinely curious about what I have planned, I spoke about it on my YouTube channel a couple of weeks ago:

And yet that does not mean we cannot express dismay or approval of something you have or have not done. Being human beings in an open society is like that. People talk about other peoples' projects all the time. That's part of the reason we're on a public server instead of playing single player. It's just talk. We respect boundries and personal space here. We're still a community though.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

One thing I've found, Lotet, for making underground tunnels look a lot better, is to try for circular or oval cross sections. One look I like in particular is a 3x3 tunnel, but the walls are removed (so a 5 wide area in total) and stairs are put in each corner. This gives a very nice 'tunnel' feel I think, and lighting can be inset into the walls (Plus the floor can be made of half-slabs to save material and hopefully help prevent spawning). Or try a taller tunnel/room design- 3 wide, but 4 tall, with a half, 1 or 2 block deep channel in the center.
A lot of it is about the general shape, not just the material- I build with stone, stone brick and cobble, but because of the way I design my stuff, it looks good to have it there.
And Netherbrick is now much more available, remember- you can smelt down netherwrack for the bricks.

Regarding the "vault" idea, I actually have a setup like that in my secret location - It's an underground ravine, half of which I sealed off, then lit.
I then added 4 floors, collected everything I could possibly ever need, then blocked up my way in - I now have a self-contained unit, with a farm, an automated forge - I even have an area set aside for the growing of trees!
The only problem with mobs I get are the occasional slime cubes spawning on the lowest floor, and they tend to fall into my artificial lake anyway.
It's nice, but sometimes I do miss the outside, It's how I imagine a dwarf might have felt living in Moria, before it went to hell! Automatically Appended Next Post: Having just logged in again, first time in ages, I,m afraid my last post was innacurate - I had a setup like that, but it seems to have disappeared, replaced by a mined-out cavern under a desert. I'm not too choked up about it, but I don't fancy rebuilding it, so I think I'll cede defeat

Eh? From a Server restart or from damage?
*changing subject*
Is there any sort of normal conduct when finding a bunch of loot scattered around and no one else is on the server? When you find a place where it looks like someone died then left?
I just left some things in chests here:
http://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/-735/64/225/-1/0/0 (Iron Pickaxe + Ingots, shears, watermelon, chicken, fish)
http://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/379/64/234/max/0/0 (Iron Armour + Shovel + Sword, potatoes)
But if someone disconnected it means they don't care if I take it right? It's not like it's diamonds...

Yeah, we did have a world reset for the new biomes in 1.7. There was fair warning here on the forum, but I understand that not everyone checks this thread all the time.
It's really a case by case thing. Someone may just have been unable to find where they died, and as long as the chunks aren't loaded, the despawn countdown timer stays stopped. So, it's courteous to leave things in a chest. Then again, some people just give up when they die out in the middle of nowhere, so if you just took them it's probably not the end of the world. However, if the person who dropped them then wants them back, then you probably should return them (but of course you shouldn't become some death run retrieval service either).

I wasn't sure what you meant, so I logged in just to double check, but it still looks like a normal villager to me:
I put the villager there to sell name tags etc. The villager does have some particle effects, but that's because I applied a permanent invincibility effect to avoid zombie or player attacks.

Oh, then it's just my texture mod. I thought I logged in without the mod before but I guess I started with it on. Cuz he looks like a Ninja with ghostly swirls floating around it.
I moved some wild Cows and Pigs in but they have cramped pens because there's no space for them. I don't want to accidentally mess up the area so someone else can extend it if they want to.
Gah! Blown up by a Creeper while in the home base tree farm. I've been dying a lot recently.

Well now its walled and 100% lit, so I'm going to set up a zombie conversion hut for now and establish myself better before enslaving the next village over.
