One thing I think the nether could use is a safe place kill ghasts from. And more ''outside'' access.
I havent explored the nether much so forgive me if such a thing already exists.

Admittedly west tunnels outside access is quite poor. I do however know of a couple of existing ways out. Behind my portal initially, and north tunnel has loads of existing ways out to explore... I haven't been in south or east tunnels for a while so wouldn't know much about the layouts of either.

As has been said, the North tunnel has a lot of access to the "untamed" Nether.
Ghast-murdering platforms are tricky because the things are so mobile and unpredictable, they can't blow up cobble though so ghast-resistant platforms are pretty easy to set up; that way at least you don't have to worry about plummeting to your doom if the ground you're standing on gets hit by a fireball.
Basically, someone has to take the initiative of taking a huge swath of the Nether and building a giant flat cobble platform. Probably the best place would be up at the Roof, 5 or 6 blocks down to give them room to spawn but not room to fly out of reach. Scatter pillars of cobble fence around to intercept fireballs (not closer together than 5 blocks, again, to allow Ghast spawning) should be better. Bonus if you can fill in everything below that so they're forced to spawn up there.

Experience is something you get just after you need it The Narkos Dynasty - 15k Iron Hands - 12k The Shadewatch - 3k Cadmus Outriders - 4k Alpha Legion Raiders - 3k
I DLed the Yogscast Complete pack and started at it last night with Metallurgy 3 and Ars Magica 2 mainly.
It was all okay until I made my Twilight Portal, found a hollow hill a few blocks away, and instantly won.
I have so much crap that I really just lost all incentive to play further, because I know most of it will just be mining it, crushing it, smelting it, building armour and weapons, and then sitting around being too badass.

Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

And this is why I think Twilight Forest shouldn't be in most modpacks. It's a fantastic standalone, adding an extra "Boss Dimension", but the weapons and defenses of other mods make TF dangers too easy, and the resources of TF severely reduce the time cost of the other mods.

What's fun to do is to not bring tech-based stuff in. it provides a level of difficulty while you being able to keep some stuff. Thaumcraft and ars magica can be quite fun.

The one upside of the YCC pack is the amount of extra mobs and stuff in it, so the first time you enter a HH you get swarmed and beaten to death within seconds.
But it still suffers from the same ways of combating this as even regular MC does, which is just "tunnel everywhere and don't leave a gap larger than a block through which you can hit stuff and not be hit back". The few things capable of going through 1-block gaps can be either easily beaten back or bypassed completely until you've dealt with everything else.

Ars Magica is actually pretty OP quite early on, especially gathering-wise. Dig on touch gives you an iron pickaxe with basically unlimited uses (unless you dig every block you see) and instantly mines blocks. The metallurgy 3 furnaces only really reduce the time it takes to do stuff and the fuel needed; the crusher doubles ore retrieval, but I have so much left over that I can say it only sped things up a bit. Apart from those two mods, I did all my gathering and combat with vanilla MC stuff - stone picks/axes, and swords; armour drops from zombies etc.

Oh, hey, hey Ian! Just learned something that'll be useful for Chasmholm!
Cyclopean actually means built of large stones with tight joining and no mortar. I think I have an idea for your city, to make it look more awesome and Cyclopean than it does now. Let me know when you're on, and maybe we can collab a little.

Well, Cyclopean can be a bunch of things -- yes, it's a reference to the scale not just of the buildings, but of the way they're constructed. I quite liked the idea of punning on the word by adding a giant eye to the top of each tower though.
It had occurred to me that *even bigger* stones would be possible, rather than mere stone slabs... especially now the new types of stone are out. Pick three or four shades of grey that are achievable with the new stone, and have giant rectangular 'bricks' made of them... I haven't quite figured how it'll work in practice though.
And I have like 2.5 months to finish my PhD. :( I am trying to get on for 20-30 min, at least a couple of times a week, but I probably shouldn't offer to work together on huge building projects atm. September onwards, yes. I'd love to work with you -- you bring a sense of scale and majesty to all the projects you do!
In the meantime though, you'd be more than welcome to grab a building spot somewhere near the other Cyclopean towers and make one for yourself.
That's pretty much what I was thinking of. Use basic smooth stone (new or old-fashioned) to create large bricks or boulders, and then have cobble or smooth-slabs in between- or possibly, with the new stones, just have large chunks of rock never touching the same kind.
We'll have to experiment on scale and shape, sometime.
And I'm fine with waiting on your Doctorate. I've got my own stuff I'm doing these days, and I'm pretty sure my 3rd shift schedule wouldn't be condusive to collab anyways.

In preparation for a server migration I will be doing soon, I have made a DNS change to the Minecraft server.
If you are accessing the Minecraft server via the "mc.dakkadakka.com" address, then all is well and you don't have to change anything yet.
If you are accessing the Minecraft server via the "www.darkinnit.com" address, then this is now pointing to the new server (which isn't ready just yet). If you have this address in Minecraft, you should edit it to be either "mc.dakkadakka.com" or "old.darkinnit.com" for now.
If you're finding that you have "www.darkinnit.com" set in Minecraft but can still access the server, that's probably just because your computer's DNS hasn't updated yet.
The "mc.dakkadakka.com" address will work for the new server after the migration, right?

Yes, when ready, it will be pointed to the new server. It might not work for some people for a few hours while they have to wait for DNS propagation (some ISPs don't update DNS often), but will eventually work. Most people shouldn't notice any problems though...
