I can do most things, but i can say this is something ive never even thought about haha.

To do a wooden texture on a large scale maybe use an impression mat? Wife uses that for sugar craft, principle's the same.

ah... graven... good of you to drop in... i wanted to ask you a favor... since your wife is so good in icing and cakemaking in general... i would like to see/show my wife a small collection of her works... we need to do every now and then some cool looking cakes for school and other times ... any helpful pics would be gratefully to be seen!

also... as for wooden texture... i used PVA a heavier coat on what to texturize... let it set for five minutes or something and then with a stringer brush make the wood grain...

well tomorrow i planned to do some drill bit sanding on the cockpit... and i need to figure out some way to get the tail done...and some way to make good looking engines...

Very nice vik, that airship will be grand. I'm glad you decided to "nut up" on this project sorry I just had zombie land playing in the background I've steered away from the zombie craze until now. I think I will be forced to make a necromunda loot counter in the shape of a Twinkie now

engines look best as jet turbines. A common approach is to cut out all the blades that go in some ring, and then glue them to a center rod.

and yep... the airship is a character must... IF this one will be the true thing... remains to be seen.... it will get to the amount of finished as all my models do secretly i had planned a two blimp airship... with a landing platform in the middle... the current one has some flaws so this one will be the classic one blimp and gondola one^^

Good start Vik.

For the engines I built for my WS I used the tube for the pump from a soap-pump-dispenser and for the fan blades I cut a circle of card, cut slits to make the blades (not all the way into the centre), then twisted them slightly in the same direction and then fixed them in place with superglue.
A blob of putty in the centre. more to fill the gap around the edges...

Then add pipes and wires and give it some paint...

Haven't tried these guys Vik, but they have the same size sticks I sent you but in 18" lengths. @0.20 each seems decent. Not sure if they ship international or not, and minimum order is $25.00 online, but you can call them for smaller orders.

hey theo, don´t go looking at hobby lobby on account of me... sending big amounts of wood across the ocean would be quite too much on postage... i am stretching my fingers atm for some similar stuff here in germany... when my school free time hits me, then i will visit my favorite artshop balsa wood is just too common to send it around the globe ... your care package tho opened up some new doors to materials ...so that was a good deed^^

at dave...thanks mate... not really done any work on the flyer today... but tomorrow we have a school free day... next week is a presentation week and we did all our needed planning and prep work already so we got a day free^^... which will be used

Vik, the guy from that web site called me back. He does ship internationally, and those are close outs. Also they are hardwood, not balsa. The company just specializes in balsa products. Once these are gone they are gone, his manufacturer is out of business for these.

Awe vik, school free day = jet turbine engine day!
