It's looking great vik, I had to do a double take on the engine pictures si had thought you used metal struts to connect it to the ship, but then realized that was cardboard that you used a hole punch on . The gun emplacements look great on the sides as well. If your still looking for a big gun for it how about attaching tesla type rods to the top then connecting them together with wire which leads to a small focusing "laser" at the front? It could absorb the static electricity in the air and convert it into a "zap" gun.

Edit: picture

Nice update!
I like the gondola with the "wings", they give nice structure.
Damn, this baby IS big!
Can you give me the length of the blimp body? well actually length, width, height while you're at it
It could do with more Dakka for sure. You probably need some ground attack weapons...like bomb bay or the like, and Air-Defense!
What about Ork fighter planes attacking from above? You need some AA-Dakka

ah... gatlings and tesla stuff... my Achilles' heel ... i like your idea ... i really do....hmmm.... i wanted to do some ornamental decor on the blimp anyway... some more protective stuff cobbled together as a tesla device... yummy!

i will measure everything then add it into a pic...ok? will probably post it tonight tho...
as for the AA dakka or bomb bay...hmmm... if i don´t mentally fill the whole blimp with tech instead of hot gas... then i really have a problem where to fit all these goodies... the gondola... the only true space to actually hold real tech methinks... is rather smallish and already a bit crowded... but... i like to stand corrected... if i get you all the measurements... be sure to point out where you still see some available spots to fill them up with more dakka... ´cause we all love dakka^^

Quick tesla coil you could use the little green spacers that were an option for the propellers and wrap some thin gauge wire around them. Put them up on a pole and then connect them together with wires. Should be convincing enough.

That is a very epic airship! I do Say however, add guiding rudders to the air part! You know make the top part of it look a bit like a missile with larger tail fins. Leave the gondola as is. I will Ms paint up some gunner locations.

Nice dakka, and that tail fan is spot on. I had a further thought about airships, what about the ones from the film of The Golden Compass?

I just think those propellors look a little small for that large airship. MAybe if there were more of them? Or did I miss something in skimming the thread?

looking forward to that! and i am currently working on some form of the (mentioned by graven) tailfins of the dragon from the movie How to Train Your Dragon ...

well the upper one i have as a mini model... and i totally loose against that ratio... if i built a blimp for that gondola acording to the golden compass one... i bet it wouldn´t fit into my living room

dsteingass wrote:I was thinking of the Final Fantasy-type airships myself

i have that pic i think in my inspirational file on my PC already... but somehow FF never did it for me...

Valhalla130 wrote:I just think those propellors look a little small for that large airship. MAybe if there were more of them? Or did I miss something in skimming the thread?

well... i am a bit feeling uneasy here... as you have a point... BUT... i think i am currently staying with these as i dont have time and space for bigger ones...

no update currently... but i have been working... i made a central tesla device... and tested how to do smaller tesla coils so to spread the KFF^^ so to say to protect the blimp...
and i started with the tailfins... and also i worked on some girder to support the whole body of the blimp...i think this might look quite good...

stay tuned for upcoming updates tomorrow

cheers, vik

Woo updates tomorrow. Hmm... I would also suggest additional four engines on the forward bow and the rear poop deck of the balloon. This would give a justified look.

Great update Vik!

If the problem with the tech parts are the space in the blimp that You don't want to use, why don't You do cables coming from the gondola reaching the top of the balloon and maybe a couple of stairs going up along these?

On top You could have a nice Dakka emplacement with actual figures shooting from It

Err I typed my comment wrong again.

What I meant to say is add four total. Two to the front and Two to the rear. This would be enough to justify it. 8 total is a bit much..

Well, I aint posted on here for a while, mainly because every time I get here every one else has said what I thought any way

But I have to say you have made some real progress and it's looking pretty dam good, I think the propellers look top notch best design chosen IMHO.

Also think the actual shape is interesting, I also think the wood army guy looks fantastic reminds me of the nutcrackers we brought back from Germany.

i am still waiting on your mock up pic for those additional details!!!

shsshhhh!... all in good time... like...now have you no sense for drama???

shasolenzabi wrote:Yep, tail of the gas bag area needs rudder and elevator fins now, and a tail cap. Nice how it shows you have been busy Vik!

hopefully some of your demands are to be satisfied in this update mister

storag wrote:Making good progress Vik! Love the gondola, but is there any Interior available?

no...just no... as this baby is planned and built as just a cover... only working as a thing to look at from the outside... so no... no interiors... i am vik... not klaus

dsteingass wrote:Hey! worry about your own gas bag area!

exactly....whut?

so... update time folks!

fist i like to present some pictures with measurements...i think it is still a mystery how big the thing really is. and i also hope in showing these now that i answered most question about dimensions... if there is further need.... let me know...

so here goes:

let us start with the blimps dimensions...

length...for now 75 cm... with tailfins and so on still missing... probably later on around 85 cm!
height...20 cm... later on additional iems on the very top might change that even further...
and the circumference...64 cm!!! i call that pretty big...

then the gondola:

length...43 cm...
width... 12 cm
height... forgot to measure that ... also... see those dowels currently on top?... will be explained below!

this will be the two tailfins:

measurements you see on the pic... and it will get some sails... i currently dropped the former pieces... will be recycled for later projects

this is the main tesla device...

height is 7cm... 12 smaller tesla coils on each pointy end of the blimp will form the KFF... they are around 4cm high...

and lastly the propellers...

diameter of the blades...7cm
height of the whole...6cm
engines length... 11 cm

and now back to the dowels...

as you will see in the following pics... they make the connection of gondola and blimp... i made a new "part" that will be the direct underside and "connector " of the blimp to the gondola...fits like a glove if i say so myself.... needs some additional fittings but then it is a working thing...:

and lastly... some "strengthening" railings for the blimps sides... in this fashion i will enclose each edge of the blimp...

sooooo..... enough updated you think... i bloody well think so too

cheers, vik

fixed it now!

you are actually quite close to the current plans of mine... the tesla device will be a centre spot on the blimp... how i will make it reachable... that remains to be seen...maybe i can get my wife to make me some rope ladders.... because i cant do these on my own worth a damn...
