Vik, I figured out the link issue, if your on a regular computer enter the link without the "m." At the beginning. That's for the mobile version and my home system chokes on it as well.
As for the Lego challenge, I will have to think of something that I can create in both mediums, but sounds fun .

Yes, please upload the steampunkery images , I noticed the new pic today, and was wondering if it was Doc. doom going fishing
Lately I've used my iPhone more as the kids are home and wife is home more for summer, and they use the iPad for games and such. I rarely use the desktop pc, so I miss more of what gets written because of bad eyesight and tiny screen.
The only fear I have of he steampunk Lego challenge is that I can make things much more mobile in Lego than I can with plastic card. Also scale will be an issue. That's why it will take a lot of thought.

well... don´t get tangled up with too much heavy thoughts...
if you start with the lego mini for scale... i think you are fine...as the 28 mm and the lego scale is roughly quite up to par...
also... if you start with a lego plane and end up with a plane... fine! if you start with a lego plane and end up with a tank...um.... i think FUN should come as the main ingredient here... i want to see originality and out of the bix thinking...
and i have absolutly no idea for timescale...
as for that site... did as you said... it worked... only to loose the actual item

Well, I tried to pull it up and copy/paste the info here, but it wouldn't allow me to do so. Basically it's five pages talking about a new system c.o.s.h. Which pressurizes and releases helium into the ballon of the airship to maintain height. Previously when the airships would need to decend they would release the helium into the atmosphere, which caused a loss of helium and shortened the fuel capacity and travel distance. The new method would recapture the helium and be able to reuse it again effectively giving unlimited range without refueling. This has peaked the interest of the military which could bring airships back one day your boys could be serving on an airship which everyone had thought was a long gone possibility.

I don think they are going to use them for combat, as the photo from it has it as a sky crane. In the photo, which it Also would not let me save/copy, it has the gigantic ship carrying what looks like a wind turbine underneath it to drop/unload in a field. I guess they could use it as a transport ship, which would be economical, but slow depending upon the propulsion system mounted to the vessel.
Googled some pics
No pics of the cosh system, guess since its a prototype that they are getting military funding for they might keep it under wraps.

Been poking around the web a bit... and maybe that can be of some use to ya, Vik
I found the plated blimp texture on that Crimson Skies mini rather fresh. Never saw anything like that before + more places for rivets
If you'll ever make a ground-oriented Tesla coil. you can add sails to it like here
And I've noticed that this thread is missing the most recent blim-fetish of game industry... The First Lady from Bioshock Infinite! Found a decent art

*gulps*
oh yeah... some beutiful artworks and models there,,, the fist one actually was my first theme i wanted to go for... wanted to make a transport vessel... with extra aircraft even... like am air carrier with extra air ^^
but that one was the first try... (probably wont be too far till i try to make some again^^ learned already much in this build...)
the second one is rather VSF and i love to do that soon too... i am getting more and more sold on the whole VSF theme... of course it is just a martian version of the already known steampunk theme...praetorians in space so to say...
and the last one...well...*sighs*

The Bioshock Lady really is a beauty!
Well Vik, now you have a goal - lol - one grows with the challenge, right?
I do like your new ornaments and look forward to see her completed. I must admit I'm a bit undecided on the gondola/detachable landing/gliding idea.
On one hand it sounds great and the current design lends to it, on the other hand I see that it may be a lot of work for only a limited effect.
Good luck mate!

i think i am already through with the whole detachable gondola idea... it was a moments weekness induced by my wife^^...
and i think i better stay vik style than go down the bioshock route... that would cost me a year or more on that build^^

I think I read/saw somewhere that old-fashioned dirigibles actually used large air pockets inside the envelope fore and aft for buoyancy control- inflate the air bubble, and the helium/hydrogen gets pressurized, which reduces its buoyancy.

That Bioshock Lady artwork does look fantastic,
I know your probably a long way off from thinking about color scheme's, but that black and gold really does seem to work well.

well... as schemes go... it will stay in the realms of my "army"... namly black, white and dark red... with gold and brazen and so on of course...
and it needs a feth-ton of rivets my dear fellowship... an oddpoodle of rivets even...oh my...
today i have worked with the wings again... added further details like cogs and some more mechanics to it... didn´t take any pics yet... tomorrow you will get some eyecandy..
at shaso... the wings will be most likley the first itmes to see paint... in no way i can get these painted already mounted so i have to paint them pre assembly...
and most likley this will happen to the propellers too... too fragile to be already mounted and then paining... breaking off stuff is then more than likely...
