Mostly, on my phone.

I like the log cabin idea, it's a really interesting and unusual way of taking this. Sweet!

This is what I was talking about:

Gyroscope: Gyroskop, Kreisel

From Wikipedia:
Device for measuring or maintaining orientation, based on the principles of angular momentum. Applications of gyroscopes include... ...for the stabilization of flying vehicles like radio-controlled helicopters or unmanned aerial vehicles.
...An electric powered flywheel gyroscope inserted in a bicycle wheel is being sold as a training wheel replacement...

(In der deutschen http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kreiselinstrument)

Thus, it would not need an external stabilizer/third wheel.

Hope it helped.

PS: Log cabin is coming along nicely, and I like the idea of fitted interiors!

werl....you have me almost convinced...I am actually thinking that the connection of the "training ball" to the main ball is too long... but actually needs to be so spaced out to have the tracks I planned on... I need to do some heavy thinking....

thanks mate!... if I recall right you were the guy who asked for a stabilizer wheel?...I might be wrong tho... but I am more and more not liking the training ball look too....damn...back to the drawing board...

update time on the cabinof the woods...

changed slightly the setup of the tiers of wood...it will now be more raised...and thus gets some small stairs...

this is the first glued together parts of the walls...with cut out windows and doorframe...all will be made way neater in the coming days...

and then the floor was done too today...:

for now everything is made of the wood you get of those firecracker rockets for new years eve...all salvaged from the streets of berlin...so currently all 100% recycled materials...

a hell lot easier as it is more and easier to be planned and the maths are easier to do your willing... also...terrain looks faster convincing than tech stuff... that needs to convince you that there is actually the possibility of movement as intended... terrain just needs to look as if it is able to sit there... which in essence it does already right from the start when you heap up the materials

and yes dave...dubbed version totally ruins this joke...as in german that fella is actually named "Blinzler" which is a very straight translation but just doesn´t make this joke possible anymore...

well...back to this current project...today was roof day...

and this roof option also made it possible to have a second floor...which of course needs another floor made of timber...and of course again...a stepladder

the roof...should it have shingles...or should it be a massive wooden roof?...also... I think I might need some help to make appropriate furniture fitting for this kind of rough hewn block house style...?

cheers and thanks in advance, yours truly vik

I was going to say that the roof pieces needed a cross beam to make them like 'A's, but if you're putting a floor in there, that should do the trick.

For the roofing, I would say the same as I did with my hut; you could make the roof from wood, but then you have a building with wood for the walls, the floors, the support structure AND the roof. It all gets a bit "wood-y".
You could do with another material just to add a little more interest to the whole.
That was why I didn't make a wooden roof to my hut anyway.

It will be too top-heavy as solid wood. You should use cross-boards (or a solid, thin piece) over the length of the rafters, then shingles over that

Also, at that angle the overhang of the roof looks a little too much. Can they see out the windows?

so...I get it that you don´t like woody? ...poor chap ...

no seriously... my wife said the same to me (not about the woody tho ) and suggested shingles too...I agree it will need a bit of variety and the roof is a good way to add this...

dsteingass wrote:It will be too top-heavy as solid wood. You should use cross-boards (or a solid, thin piece) over the length of the rafters, then shingles over that

agreed, that would be indeed too heavy looking...and I indeed try to build this log cabin as classic as I can... so crossboards and such things will be needed and be done!
and it will get individual shingles too!

Dr H wrote:Also, at that angle the overhang of the roof looks a little too much. Can they see out the windows?

the pic was before my wife (again) informed me to the fact that if I raise the wall with a new floor I will have it easier to get the roof build without the need to cut out angles

so now I can assure you that the windows are full use!...

Not tempted by corrugated iron then?

Looking good mister, shingles will look great. Will the upper floor be removable? Maybe just a couple locating pins and the whole upper section comes away?

As to furniture, simple palet beds and a table maybe. Look to DrH's Hut for table and bench design done perfectly for this situation. Oh and Daves botbelly stove with Rivets!

you are already way ahead on the way I am currently heading...^^...the roof will be detachable... I think I will skip the location pins as I have a sort of guiding rail for the floor and the finished roof will just sit in place on its own accord...
and you summed it up pretty much what I have currently planned for furniture... if I have the bitz and the room I will do some see-through maps and other tech like we know from star wars...the upper level will hold the sleeping dens ...after that...future planning as time allows... as for the roof itself... well I can´t really warm-up with corrugated iron as it looks too rough and too makeshift ... shingles will be better for that more neat looking stereotype I have in my head of british military structures^^...if I could get the look right I think slate would be perfect... but I have no idea how to get the look right of rough cut slate...

Theophony wrote:Toothpick furniture Vic. Make lots of rocking chairs an his can b the imperial guard rest home for the aged .

already working on toothpick furniture...look no further as the no presented ladder. (oh and a rocking chair... how to do that with toothpicks...damn....)..--->

update time...the roof is still further shaping up...may I present to you the almost finished gables...:

there is now a ladder...which I built this way...:

Not where I should be

Great stuff. Great minds and all that.

For the slate, very laborious, but you could cut each from Plasticard, then cut the chipped edges on, similar to the way I did my scimitars. I would suggest doing it in rows and cutting the joints in after. but I suspect the best person to answer this is Dave. I have done slate roofs in the past but just from cardboard. I would not worry at the chipped edges.
