This is why in America there are no "German restaurants", we have Chinese, French, Italian, Korean, Greek and India restaurants, but no German restaurants.

I want my sauerkraut, and for once I'm not talking about Vik

actually theo I've heard of bratwurst serving restaurants in the US... we have some (dumb) TV shows that show how germans get to the states and open up shops and other ways of making a living... and bakeries are one of the top ideas...somehow we can teach you a lot when buns and bread is concerned^^

and thanks mates for all the high praise... I think tomorrow I will spoil you with another update...a primed one

Don't get me wrong Vik, Germany is well represented by bratwurst at ballgames. It's just there's not a big chain of German inspired food. We have Chinese restaurant chains, and a few large Mexican food chains, but there's no Schmidts.....wait never mind in just remembered Germany's influence on our diet.

lol... come to that there aren´t any major restaurant chains here too... pizza and döner and chineese food has raided our dining tables too^^...(and actually I am very glad about it, because german food tends to be to fat and gravy laden...if you ask me^^)

and a stein... never drank from that... anyone ever tried that?

And the Dutch come here to run dairy farms. Go figure.

Anyway, there are a few German themed restaurants in places that had high levels of German immigrants in the past, Cincinnati, Ohio for one. It even has a section of the city called Over the Rhine.

I woud prefer that we learn about brewing from you guys, instead of baking, to be honest. Although we do all right in that regard these days, as long as we avoid the mass produced swill.

Best German TV show: "Tatort" the Koln version, with Freddie and Max. IMHO. Don't know if it is still running with those two though.

Ninja'ed. Yeah, Steins and Stangs (for Kolsch) Growlers are the big thing around here though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_bottle#Growler

lol...tatort...I prefer the münster one...but then I like comedy far more than riddles and action...

well...I know many peeps like german beer, but honestly, for me the thicker Czech beer or an irish one are far more nourishing^^...but that´s again all about personal taste^^

We had a station that would show the Koln version. So it's what I know.

Weihenstephaner and Poulaner. Good stuffs. By Irish, you mean Stout? A meal in a bottle.

I'm partial to some German music (Rammstein and Kraftwerk to name the obvious two), but that's an entirely different kind of "taste".

St. Louis has lots of German influence. Besides brewery's there's a couple German bakeries, and my kids did gymnastics at the turners club near us. I consider myself 100% German, never mind the Irish (and we don't speak of the French relatives ) there's som smaller towns south of saint Louis where German is still a second language, though with the older people passing away now you find fewer people conversant in it.

The only steins I've drank from we're porcelain, not metal though.

@red harvest, my uncle(not by blood) is Dutch and is neither good with dairy, flowers nor can he clog dance

There are a lot of German-ish restaurants in my northern midwest parts, but most of this area was settled by German immigrants. Scandanavian and Polish immigrants tend to have settled more in Minnesota/Wisconsin, but the little towns here are quite the mix of names from all over Europe. We forget the melting pot in our ignorance, but perhaps that's the idea?

Mostly, on my phone.

^ I think forgetting the melting pot is not a uniquely american thing. If anything you are far more conscious of your polyglot, amalgam nation status! I look at my countrymen and I despair at the blinkered, nationalistic ignorance sometimes (said the Englishman, living in Scotland, who is of mixed Dutch-Jewish and Anglo-Irish descent).

Not where I should be

Fantastic stuff, looking brilliant. Nice job on the different flooring.

Is this meant to be a poured concrete building? It looks perfect if it is. I would maybe add some reinforcing steel sticking out in the odd place here and there.

Looking really promising for the future.

How about some rebar sticking out of the concrete especially the floor slabs?

You guys do nice work on water damaged flooring.

That ruin building's looking great, coming along nicely.

My apologies for not commenting for a while, I have been lurking and watching,
but that's not really the same is it .

Now that I'm actually getting projects finished (at last) I'll hopefully be in less of a rush,
and be able to comment more frequently, I hope .

In regards to beer, meh. I am more of a Cider drinker, and even more so that i have moved to the south west of England. Good old Somerset cider and scrumpy. I have even started brewing it myself

Is that drainpipe held up there by magic? or are you going to add some proper riveted brackets?

Looking at the checkerboard floor, I got to thinking... has anyone ever used actual ceramic or plastic or even glass tiles (the 1"x1" kind) in a project?

Do not disrespect beer, good sir. How is English cider by the way? In the US, we get it sweet. The Spanish style is tangy (and not really to my taste) and the French-- well the Normans anyway-- have nice dry ciders. I like the Norman style best. But I know nothing of English style.

And to get back to topic, a few jugs lying around would look cool.
