Sorry I should have been more specific, I did mean the ruined urban buildings. Would that be a foam core filling in a plasticard "sandwhich"?
Sometimes, in other cases it's f spackled with light filler, or just lightly textured and the structure and resin parts give it durability.

I would ideally like for you to post some tutorials and guides on bases.
I figure that terrain skills could be transfered to bases?
Anyway i saw the toxic tutorial looks cool for the bigger models/bases/terrain.
But i've only seen two tutorials posted I can't find more. Have you done two or are there more?
Thanks.

The handful of tips and tutorials you've put out already have been fantastic. There are hundreds of tutorials already floating around the net on making specific features, though - various building types, woods, hills, etc. (though none compare to yours in terms of realism or flavor (warning: floss thoroughly after chewing pine bark), in my opinion). I think a great deal of what sets yours apart is the planning and the groundwork. More advice on those, I think, would be of the greatest benefit to the DIY community. We can vaguely see what you're doing and why through project logs, but something simple, designed from the ground up to clearly demonstrate the process (with explanatory text, to match), would be a huge boon.

As a long time supporter of 3T I have to agree with Oadie on this one. It would help improve the quality of everyone's DIY work, the only thing they would need to comprehend whats going after that is the Vision which 3T has an almost never ending supply of.

is there a particular brand of sculpting tools you would recommend for gs work?
LOEW CORNELL has wooden and metal sets that we've used for sculpting as well as other things. I also have some rubber tipped tools not sure of the brand name since the name rubbed off long ago. I'll research it further and i'll just do some product reviews later on.
I can't believe I found it. The brand we use is AMACO clay shaper. Although it's due for us to try other products and other tools just for comparisons sake. Okay it's shopping time!

Finally he was able to explain what it should look like and his vision, I have to admit, was right on. He kept reminding me of the grim darkness of the future. He finally made some sketches (thank god) and I gave it one look and nodded.

I've gotten enough questions on bases that I'm probably going to start branching into custom basing, resin bases, basing tutorials, etc. But only when my current workload allows. That workload is also why I only have a couple of in-depth DIY articles up, but I have a lot more in progress!

I really appreciate the feedback, it's hard to gauge what parts of what we do are of interest to the community, I often take for granted the little things like planning, design and the artistic/engineering side and focus on talking about the mechanics of layering materials, etc.in our guides and logs.
Right now we're trying to put out a few more actual guides, rather than just project logs, which are really just glossed-over stories about how we make a piece. In our future guides we'll focus more on the step-by-step art of terrain making, and talk about the how/what/why parts of what we do. Automatically Appended Next Post: Lysenis wrote:Wait Mismuse was wrong O.o Who are you?
This has to go into the project log, it was by far one of the most stunning moments on any project. I was all heated up from one of our regular arguments about this board, something ridiculous like the shape of the laboratory walls, and finally after nearly shouting out what my plans were, and sketching some crappy thumbnails, she pondered for a second and then went "Oh, okay then. You're right. Carry on." and strutted off like nothing happened.
I called back "Right about what??"
"All of it."
Anyhow, yeah I'm finally making good progress on my X-board days, so next update incoming in a day or two.

Terraformer, considering in 6th people want to have fortifications and ones to match their army perhaps that would be worth a go?
I was wondering if you could custom build an orky fort to the dimensions of a Fortress of redemption.
Roughly 24" long and 14 high. Not sure about the other widths from my head though.
I will PM you this question also, thanks.

The new rules for fortifications have created quite a stir around here as you could imagine, we have some projects in the works and we're getting a lot of calls for custom bastions, fortresses, landing pads Etc. We'll discuss your idea further, I'll PM you

Lyse, working on your update right now bud, the construction is painfully slow going but coming together much more quickly now that I finished the last (hopefully) round of custom resin parts. An early - mid Fall completion actually looks pretty realistic at this point.
In the meantime, we have a few more Ork huts Mismuse has been working on between display boards, refining her technique.

X-boards are still in construction but the end is in sight. I cannot wait to be able to start painting this. The painting will be a breeze, its the construction that takes up all the time on something like this.
I updated the project log on our web page, I still intend on reposting the whole thing on Dakka soon too.

Thanks! The face is an original sculpt from a new line of products that we're slowly working on.
Also, I can think of nothing more inviting than a dark cave strewn with giant webs and skulls

The iron face really draws you in nice touch and the slightly ajar door really does give depth to the piece, I also like the small opening in the ground like a small shaft whats down there then ?
The cob webs are great little touches like that brings life to a model, or in this case the lack of life any chance of a how to ?
I have seen some where lately about making Cob webs using some solution and an airbrush, but you have to be careful as it can damage your airbrush is this the same stuff
