Finished the Space Marine 2 campaign yesterday. I'll admit while it was quite fun I found it rather short. And I think that's because a lot of the missions that should/ could be in the campaign have been outsourced to the multiplayer mode and I'm still not sure how I feel about this.
It made me do online gaming which I haven't done for years.

I think that the multiplayer missions are incredibly playable solo definitely helps. I ended up getting really into to the online mode which generally isn't something that appeals to me. It helps that it's all just really compelling content in general and arguably the unique playstyles of the multiplayer classes end up being more interesting that Titus's generic action game toolset.

Some of the coop missions are amazing in scope and execution, plus if you get good squad synergy, you get really rewarding gameplay moments.

And yes, while not ideal, the bots are a great alternative if you don't, like me, like playing with randos online.

Did they make it easier to queue up the multiplayer maps to play as solo? IIRC you needed to jump through some hoops.

Finished the tutorial for Arc Raiders.

Going to wait for some of my regular gaming buddies to log on for me to take a solid stab at the game.

I'm back being addicted to Gladius-Relics of War Warhammer 40,000, again. I don't know why I like it so much it...isn't the most deep story wise or even gameplay, but I like it a lot! Playing as the Eldar (Craftworld Dalorsia, naturally). Fun times.

I picked up the entire Dying Light franchise for a song during a Steam winter sale and have had a blast playing through the entire series. Bargain classic single-player escapism just when I needed it.

The games' central story lines are middling; side quests range from very poorly to very well written. The core open-world parkour and zombie-bashing are rock solid and just plain fun.

There's a lot of fan animus around the relative merits of Dying Light 1, 2, and the Beast, but if you're a Johnny-come-lately like me and can wait for a sale, you can get 1 and 2 with all the DLC trimmings for so little that it's hard to get invested in raging about the games' comparative shortcomings. I now appreciate the differences between 1 and 2, but honestly I enjoyed playing both. The Beast was originally going to be a DLC for Dying Light 2 but was promoted to being a full game, and it's much shorter than its predecessors, so you might want to wait until the price falls more on that one. How short is the Beast? It feels longer than a DLC but shorter than a full game, he said unhelpfully.

I'm now a fan of the series and hope Techland will find the ambition to release a Dying Light 3 as expansive as one and two someday.

I've been playing MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries with a friend and remembered it's pretty fun.

Also was gonna play Battletech (the pc game) at some point again because i saw a streamer playing it. I bought the season pass and should have all the mech and story content.

Pretty sure BrookM is gonna tell me all about it now.

I’m a big fan of both mechwarrior and battletech. One is more a FPS, the other more turn based. Both fun, in different ways.

Finished the "campaign" of my Gladius- Relics of War playthrough. Tempted to keep on playing to make the map become covered in Eldar cities, that'd be pretty cool. That, or start a new game as Dark Eldar. Not sure. I really shouldn't the game is really addictive, lol.

Back to my X-COM campaign. I reloaded my save from May, as by November I was still on one base, losing countries fast, and it was readily apparent it was a losing battle. Established an engineering base, and a second base in America. Trying to get all the late-game tech sooner rather than later.

I started my Dark Eldar game in Gladius, having fun. I do miss the Eldar's ability to move after attacking, but still enjoying it. My ally (Eldar) got ganked by one of the enemy teams of two. They were deployed on the other side of the map than me and unluckily near to both, they managed to make a city near me, so they survived by the skin of their teeth. I just wiped out one of the enemy teams and after that, the next team were converging on my forces. There's a lot of them and my ally is still in recovery, so they're useless. Might have to perform a fighting retreat, lol.

The one hiccup I had was within the ship world, having repeatedly missed a hard to see maintenance hatch. I'm not sure if I would have found it myself without looking up what I was missing there.

Going to move on to Riven?

Did they re-do those? I recall playing them in something like the late 80s/early 90s. Fun, but a little frustrating at times.

Yes! Riven was remade relatively recently. I think it's their most recent release apart from some additional content in Myst.

I don't know enough about battletech but i'd say....no. The closest to aliens are probably the Clanners and i've never played any mech games that had them so i can't judge anything with them.

I've been playing a lot more Mechwarrior 5 mercenaries with a friend. It's been fun so far. In some ways the idea of constantly destroying other mechs for more parts seems more like a decline in technology than a lot of 40k is. 40k has some reasons for it in the dark age of technology but battletech supposedly is like "Yeah we've been sabotaging each other so much and there was so much upheaval that technology was often lost....at least until the Clans came."

Riven (1997)

I've unlocked most of the map. However, I'm approaching "stuck" status. There are a few key items that, if I can figure them out, I think will get me further.

For context, Riven is a really cool (and difficult) puzzle game. I'm currently playing through it without any sort of guide.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

Haven't played Riven in decades, but I vaguely remember getting stuck towards the end. Possible hint in the spoiler tag, if nothing else I'd be curious if I'm remembering correctly once you figure it out:

Spoiler:

There's something with an elevator at some point. I remember having to not leave the elevator and change the direction I was looking/facing to find a lever or something that let me progress.

You can't get me to click that spoiler!

Jokes aside, I'm not stuck ***yet***. Just close to stuck.

I've gathered a lot of data. Currently working on turning it into actionable information.

After playing the absolute bajesus out of Warhammer 3 I decided I needed a break. So I reinstalled Crusader Kings 3 and finally decided to figure out what was causing it to crash all the damn time on my PC.

After a few driver updates and settings changes it's finally stable and I threw myself into the game only to realise I am super bad at it. Or I should say, I'm bad at anything other than being a Viking.

Heroes of the Lance (ZX Spectrum)

One of those games that is considered a poor effort on a powerful 16-bit machine or 8-bit game console, but for an 8-bit home computer such as the ZX Spectrum it's a respectable one. If embracing the instruction manual and going to the effort of mapping the game by hand it becomes an atmospheric experience. Otherwise it's very easy to mistake it as an unhelpful action game.

Something I'd love to remake in Godot if I didn't have other game development projects on the go...

Picked up Silent Hill f the other day and its definitely a nice return to form for the series. The opening segment is absolutely terrifying, though I worry it'll love some of its tension now that I'm armed. Still really liking what I'm seeing even if what the monsters represent this time is blindingly obvious, I'm curious to see how it turns out.

I'm still in the very early stages of an Arkhan the Black playthrough, testing out the quality of life stuff they gave Tomb Kings a few months/patches ago. But I'm close to needing a break as well, having been in my near daily rotation with Darktide for the past few months.

In Darktide, I suffered a 4 game losing streak in Havoc, dropping me down to clearance level 24. I just can't get out of the 20's in Havoc. I'm starting to come to the conclusion that its possible that its beyond my abilities, though I do not use mods that I'm told are damn near required for high level Darktide.

I've watched a few videos, dabbled in the demo and grabbed it yesterday.

I feel like there's a definite learning curve to it, it's not my usual fare, even though I've sunk an appropriately silly number of hours into XCom.

No aliens in BattleTech apart from one novel where a ship misjumped and ended up a LONG way from the Inner Sphere.
