Really? I'm surprised. I've decided to skip this GoW. Probably because I really hate prequels...

Its really fun, it just suffers from prequel syndrome. The developers just jammed in new great things and you kinda wonder where they've been for the first three games

Been playing Metro 2033 still, game overheats my GPU something wicked. Can only play this game for 30-45 minutes before my computer fans scream and sounds like the box is going to melt down!

Also some Fallen Enchantress but its very bleh, more of a chore to play than anything.

Some Multiplayer Mass Effect 3, which is very enjoyable. Really enjoy the co-op multiplayer shooters.

Also picked up Left 4 Dead 2 for $5, its good but gets tiresome quickly. If you could level up like in ME3 it would be a slam dunk.

Finished my first run of Dragon Age including all the DLC, now I just need to replay the Witch's Hunt DLC for the proper ending.

I just have to decide if I want to start my evil Elf rogue playthrough or try some Hitman.

Have been playing Hearts of Iron 3 as Germany.
It gets rather old fast how the AI keeps 150-3k strong units against +100k strong battlegroups and then running around like headless chickens capturing zones causing about +10 pop-ups to appear per game hour .

Nice game thought.

Actually, a majority of the stuff not appearing in the post-Judgment continuity makes sense.
The Markza and Booshka are both UIR weapons, not COG weapons and the UIR was the first human "nation" to be wiped out by the Locust. Following Emergence Day there likely was not too much of a demand for "new" weapons which would require alternative training (the Markza being a designated marksman rifle versus the Longshot being a "proper" sniper rifle platform) by the COG for their soldiers.

It's also worth mentioning that the game has some fun with the "prequel syndrome". In Aftermath(which takes place during/right before the events of Gears 3), Baird comments on the appearance of Ragers(who utilize defiled Markzas as "Breechshots") with "I wonder where those guys were at all this time? Not that I'm complaining, mind you...". The Onyx Guard skins for MP as well have some commentary where it suggests that the Onyx Guard were "the COG's worst-kept secret during the Pendulum Wars" but then "disappeared completely until the Azura incident"(which refers to Gears 3).

Ah, Thats true, I was Referring a bit more to the Specialty grenades in Overrun. But I can overlook those for the fun the multiplayer presents

I played on the Dakka MC and Tekkit servers for a bit. While my Pc can handle MC at 70+ fps the only net access I have is via a laptop which cant handle MC even on lowest settings. So won't be on any of the servers for a while.

I've got a play time of almost two hours and I'm yet to even start the first level... God the mods for this game are unstable.

XD I just got there and my pacifistic run already in tatters (...something inside me just just tells me that throwing people off of the Statue of Liberty is a fun). Though I've set it down for now as I'm finding that steam doesn't handle mods very well (ref taking two hours to get the thing to work...). =/

I may just head into town and see if I can pick up a disc second hand. =)

Found an unplayed copy of Black & White in a pile of old stuff and hoped I'd found a buried treasure but meh, I don't think I'll go back to it. This was probably great back in the day but not so much now.

On to Metro 2033 next I think.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Just got God of War: Ascension (taking a break from Kingdoms of Amalur to play it).

So far:

Graphics? Completely out of this world. The best a GOW game has ever looked.
Gameplay? Extremely fun. The combos and weapon progression is fun, and even though I'm not a fan of the rage meter, I'm having a blast playing it.
Story? Incomprehensible! I don't know what the feth is going on. First I'm fighting against someone that I apparently hate yet have no real reason why (other than they're obviously evil and voiced by Nikka Futterman, which always means they're evil), and now I'm in an extended 'three weeks earlier' flashback, and have been for more than I was in the present, and I just got done riding a massive mountain sized snake... rollercoaster... (?) and don't know what I'm doing there either. This game's story is terrible.

Right now I'd give it a C, as the story was interesting in the other 5 GOW games (even if Chains of Olympus wasn't that great).

GoW: Ascension confused me.

A lot. The giant mountaincoaster pretty much was the end of me playing my brother's copy, and then moving back to Killzone 2/3 and Just Cause.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

When you quit a game in anger (or fury!) they call it "Rage Quitting". So what do you call it when you quit a game out of disappointment, or simply just being sick of it?

I ask because that's what I just did with God of War Ascension. After muddling my way through a strange boss-fight against... some sort of person with another person growing out of his stomach (after which I got the trophy "Quaid!") I then messed around with the new life cycle ability (which is just busywork from what I can see and about as integral to gameplay as the fast boots from GOW3).

Anyway, I came to the next bit and walked around a corner away from where I was meant to go to look for more hidden chests. I got to the edge, looked to see if there was somewhere I could jump to... and the planks beneath me gave way and I died instantly. Not warning. No rumbling to show it was about to fall. No chance to do anything about it. I just walked to the edge and died straight away. I didn't even have any words. I was just shocked.

I held down my PS button, selected "turn off controller" and turned off my TV.

This is without a shadow of a doubt the worst GOW game in the series. Chains of Olympus was brief, sparse and a little dull, but I can forgive that as it was the first PSP GOW game and, more importantly it wasn't a bad game, I just didn't like it all that much. This one though? Why am I still fighting in this extended flashback? Is most of the game told in flashback? Why even have the starting section if it's all going to take place before that happens? Wouldn't it have been better to build up the threat of the Furies before we see them later? It's hard to get scared of the Furies when you kill one of them in the first 20 minutes and then spend the rest of the game in a flash back pretending to be worried about one of the people you just killed? And who are these characters? When the various gods came after you in GOW3 there was a sense of danger. "Oh, here comes Hades! Ok, let's fight Helios! Ha! That's Hercules, voiced by Kevin Sorbo no less - awesome!" whereas in Ascension its "Oh... there's... Kuato from Total Recall I guess... and... an Elephant man. Why is there an elephant man? I'm going to find an Oracle because some dude with glowing eczema who I met only once and never told me his name said so... yay?"

The game lacks any context. I knew what I was doing and why in the other games. Here I haven't a clue other than "find the oracle, now find something else", all of which is meaningless because I obviously still get caught by the Furies and then have to fight them. It'd be like starting God of War 2 with the fight against Zues, having you nearly kill him, and then going "2 days earlier" and have you go through the whole game.

Finally picked my copy of Dishono(u)red back up. I have reached the last mission ('low chaos', apparently). One thing that shocked me about the game is that if you're canny with what powers you upgrade early on and aren't worried about being spotted a couple times you could easily speedrun the game in about 90 minutes, and that's including stealth. Without stealth i reckon I could beat it in half that time. I gotta say by far the strongest part of that game is Emily(I mean this in a totally non-paedo way), there are no lengths i wouldn't go to to protect that adorable little creature. I have never been so charmed by a videogame character ever.

Somehow the game still felt a bit limited to me, i was just as often stymied as i was offered a new avenue. It's certainly no Hitman (even if, unlike hitman, you never truly feel you've missed the 'Right Way' to do something) more Deus Ex 2 or Human Revolution.
