I know Tarutaru, so making them Falefel or whatever does not do it for me. The similarities are more problematic than it should be.

I've never played XI, so I can't comment on Tarutarus, but what doesn't sit well with you about Lallafels? I've been playing a Lallafel and they're just so gosh darn adorable! It's impossible to take them seriously
Really it is the fact that they are the same.

I loved the Tarutaru lore and land but jumping into a game where they are called Falefel instead just seemed a lark.

Why does it need to change?
Why could they just not make a new ideal? It was literally the similarity that kept us out. Why should we re-make the same characters to play a new game?
I liked my Tarutaru.

I get the idea that FF games change the verbage and gameplay between games - that is one of the draws.
Keeping things the same enough to morph them into something different made both of us want to step out from it.

That is sad.

editing to add:
I work in this industry. This game simply failed before it even started.
The idea is wrong.

But they changed everything, Elezan were Elvaan, Hyur were Humes, Miqo'te are Mithra, Roegadyn are Galka sans tail. Eorzea is not Vana'diel.

I wouldn't dismiss the game based on a name change alone. It's a fun game and has a good storyline, albeit it is Star Wars...

Edit: Final Fantasy 14 failed, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn hasn't failed it's gone beyond the expectations of Square so far considering you could not buy this game for two weeks because servers were overloaded with how popular the game was from its initial version.

Edit the second: Honestly, if you don't like Lalafells being 'tarutarus' then just play a different race. Would you have this issue if FFXI had Humans, Elves, Orcs, Cat-people, and gnomes and then in FFXIV had Humans, elves, Orcs, Cat-people, and gnomes?

I would have had a new take on things.

I would rather not have had them make Tarutaru2.0 but rather have made Falafel stand on their own.

The similarities throw me more than the differences.

I am not really knocking it as a game - it may be amazing - but it looks too much like what I played to want to make it something different.

It's fine that you might not like the game, but to look at it and go, "Those are/aren't tarutaru, pass!" isn't giving the game a chance... But that's your opinion I'll just go on enjoying this game

Heh.

I get that too.
Part of it is probably getting to the point that stopping 11 was a good idea. So starting 14 seems almost a relapse.

@MrDwhitey that... is so awesome. Its also why I don't think I could play that game! I mean you could come up with worse (slightly) outfits in WoW, but if you're telling me that is actually viable late game gear... Bwahaha! Awesome, thanks for sharing

Still playing w40k space marine. Still wishing the bolter didn't feel like a slightly higher caliber assault rifle.

It's not really viable late game gear. The chestpiece that whitey is wearing is not the artifact piece that you get upon reaching level 50. Here is all of the level 50 stuff with their relic weapons, which are only attainable after beating the storyline:

From left to right: Bard, Black Mage, Warrior, White Mage, Dragoon, Monk, Paladin

The only jobs that aren't shown are the Summoner and Scholar who share a base class.

That does look better, although the dragoon is the only one that really does anything for me I'm a little burnt on MMOs and final 'beating a dead horse' fantasy anyway, so don't mind me!

Jos, you look terrible!

And there are pieces of each set's gear that is kind of dumb
Bard's bow is too large
Black Mage's hat is too pointy
Warrior looks like a Skyrim reject
White Mage is wearing a tiara (not really, but that's what I call it)
Dragoon looks awesome, except for female armor which has a big stab me here hole in the stomach
Monk is too bright and the fist pieces are awkward looking
Paladin doesn't have set gear shield so that rarely ever matches

But honestly it's not a bad game and the final dungeon literally has like 4 boss fights in a row with no trash mobs in between.

Had a go at trying to play Baldur's Gate again, but the interface is just so damn annoying to get around. I mean other than just the movement controls and the different menus, talking to people seems like such a chore. Meh, one day I might get past the tutorial (get's shot by people that have actually properly experienced the game).

Instead Im reinstalling Fallout 2.

@easysauce heck yeah, best game evar! Or well, really fun anyway I'm impatiently awaiting BG2/ToB EE, that is a thing right, they're still doing it? I really wanna import my crazy BG1 characters in and go the whole mile for a couple of them.

I agree that NWN seemed to lack the same soul as the earlier games. I think it may have had to do with them designing the toolkit, and then building their own game with it. Maybe they should have just built a better game and *then* slapped the toolkit on for the rest of us.

Did you play the IWD games? I haven't tried 1 yet, but I quite liked the upgrade to 3rd edition that IWD2 brought. Had the new classes, skills, feats of D&D 3/.5 but still felt so much like Baldurs Gate (minus the amazing NPCs like Minsc!, biggest downfall, but I had a lot of fun with that one too).

I think you've tricked me into playing that again after I finish space marine. Darn it. Or maybe Magicka... hrm..

Titan Quest is fantastic. I enjoyed it much more than Diablo II or III, the whole Greek, Egyptian and Asian mythology based enemies and "Dual-Class" system was great. I was fortunate to get it together with a gaming magazine.

If you have a PS3, get Demon's Souls. I tougher than Dark Souls.

Just found out today that Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition isn't censored or German-Language-Only in Germany, unlike Fallout 3! Woohoo! Playing that again. Really love the Fallout 3 game engine. Trying for playing in Hardcore Mode, currently stumbled out of the desert with my legs crippled from shrapnel from a botched attempt to kill a pack of coyotes with a grenade. Thought maybe the buildings I saw might be a town where I could get some help, turns out the Legion had just been through and killed or crucified all the townsfolk.

God damnit! I need at least one leg functional!

To answer your question regarding IWD 1, yes its a very, very awesome game. The music alone is owrth paying for the game, then you have the insanely detailed and varied world, the foes you meet and the sheer mindboggeling amount of detal that has gone into certain parts of the world. I) have sunk around 150+ hours of time into said game and its expansion pack hearth Of Winter.
Combar flows very well, and the different ways you can build a party also provides a lot of options and possibilties. Although as in all such games some builds makes ones life as a smither of evil and disorder a bit easier.
