I saw CoH2: Ardennes Assault had 25% off, and was immediately put off by the fact that even with the discount, it's still £22.49. I'm not getting it until it falls at least below £10, even if that takes another year; anything more is just a complete rip-off.

For Blighttown, there's a way of mitigating blowpipe damage, inflicting toxic on yourself first with dung pies. The damage you take is based on what inflicted toxic to you in the first place, not what attacks filled the toxic bar. If snipers fill the bar for you, and you then use a dung pie to inflict it, you will take the 7dps of the dung pie instead of the 14dp0.6s of the blowdart, and subsequent toxic darts will have no effect.

You can also use the Spider Shield to block them, since resistance to toxic is built in to the resistance to poison stat.

Alternatively, suicide charge them, since they never respawn.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Steam sale is extremely "meh" so far. Lots of games neither of us is interested in (or has already) and lots of 20% or 33% sale stuff. Meeeeeeeeeh.
For me the blowpipes weren't all that bad, compared to the terrain itself. It was the narrow ledges you have to fight on...I'm playing a strength build with light armor and two-handed weapons...

Blight town was annoying but i find the massed dragons way worse. Ornstein and smough fight is by far the most annoying thing i faced in the game and i stopped playing it at that point. Oh and have fun getting shot by super arrows while walking/running up very narrow paths.

Having finally got Halo MC Collection to install/download updates on the new XB1 (seriously, what was wrong with the days you just put in a disk and played without any of this install nonsense?) after about 8 hours of waiting, I have now played a few rounds of multiplayer and watched a couple of campaign missions. The verdict? Holy crap the remastered Halo 2 is awesome! Amazing visuals, amazing sound, very, very smooth and just all-round awesome. Compared to the dissappointment that was remastered Halo 1 a couple of years ago, it's hard to believe the two were done by the same company.

There we go, beat blighttown, now for the immensely easier (but still hard) Sen's Fortress.

Which is also murdering me ,but it feels fair.

You're making me want to re-DL Dark Souls.

Why would you do such a thing? It's Christmas!

Wife bought Postal 2, am replaying it now. Still such an awesome game. It's utterly disgusting and offensive but I like it for that. You can be an absolute psycho brutally murdering and peeing everywhere, and the game's so over the top...what I really love about it, however, is it sandboxy character. We need more games like this that. Like...you go into the sewers and suddenly end up in a terrorist hideout, freeing dog food eating US Marines and finding WMD you promptly use to kill the remaining terrorists

I like both Dark Souls games really. each has its own redeeming qualities and such that makes them nice to play. But if I have to choose I liked nr 2 the best, if only for the change of scenerery

Several of my friends like two more, as well. Probably has to do with improvements in combat.

The main problem of Dark Souls 2 is the vastly inferior level design and the shoddy PC port.

Inferior level design to things like Blighttown? I find that hard to believe.

A huge selling point of Dark Souls was the non-linearity and the feeling of "I will go there!" whenever you ran around and went exploring; i.e. seeing something in the background where you will be or have already been in the past. It made the entire world feel connected. That's almost non-existent in DS II. My worst exampLe: you spend most of the game looking for 4 special souls to open a temple's gate. Well...that "temple" is the size of a garden pavillon and stands somewhere lost in a forest. You can easily go AROUND it but are blocked by a knee-high pile of dirt. I am not kidding. It just destroys the entire immersion if a pile of dirt you would easily be able to take a long step over suddenly forces you to collect 4 mighty souls and open the door. Ugh.

The overall map does not make sense. Like e.g. you ride UP in an elevator and suddenly stand in a giant lava pool. Some users recreated the map and showed that parts of it overlap.

Quite a few bosses in DSII are blatant re-skins (Smaug) or get recycled a lot throughout the game (Executioner).

PvP was nigh-unplayable at start and still is a horrid mess thanks to "Soul Memory".

No longer being able to upgrade your stats at every bonfire, but instead being forced to teleport to a specific bonfire means 2 loading screens every time.

Boss design was...meh. I mean...in a good, hard boss fight, the enemy is able to adapt to your tactics and telegraphs less, forcing you to react quickly. That's how a good difficult fight is designed. Randomly throwing 3 critters in that attack and poison you is pee-poor game design.

And the PC port is complete garbage, as usual. Starts with terrible KM controls and includes the lazy-donkey graphics part.

The DLCs for DS II are awesome, though.

The game is still good...ish. It just felt like a huge letdown after DS1 and felt more like a cash-in than a true successor.

Trying out the Autumn Aurora 2 mod for SoC.
It's pretty good. It manages to be difficult without resorting to bs, you can actually see what's going on even with the graphical changes (unlike Zone of Alienation) and it pulls off a minimal HUD without being a confusing mess.

So i've been playing a lot of xenonauts. Managed to down some battleships this time around and beat those missions to collect their gear. There's this one powerful handheld weapon you can get from it that only heavies can wield. Basically it's like a vehicle mounted explosive weapon in the game. It's pretty ridiculous using the final tier stuff. The high end magnetic weapons are pretty interesting. I just skipped that whole bit in the last game. I'd be using the absolute final tier bomber plane but it has no cannons and more importantly the explosive it can use supposedly can take out the entire area 8 km around (which is pretty scary but in game terms prevents anything being salvaged from the crash which is pretty much the anti-thesis of the emp cannon in xcom: enemy unknown and somewhat undesirable when you want more materials) so i don't think it can kill any fighters though it might outrun them (not sure if you can).

I kind of actually hope there will be a xenonauts 2. Even if it's heavily based around xcom the game is pretty fun. I'm curious what happens to the Earth after the invasion and if there are more much later on. The point to the end is that the alien fleet would be stranded and you'd wipe out the rest but i'm not sure if i want the game to end so quickly. Besides i'm not entirely sure the aliens would give up so easily and there is a possibility of an earth resistance movement or an intergalactic resistance movement against this ultimate alien power.

Well I've given up on Misery, that mod's just too unbalanced to be fun for me. Instead I'm now playing another overhaul mod called SGM. Its been off my radar because its natively Russian rather than English, but well I needed to pick something up. Now from the looks of things it doesn't go about changing every little detail like Misery did, rather it just adds a load more content. What type of additions? Well how about the maps from the first two games. ...Yeah this mod has you trudge through a few areas before you even reach the CoP bits (the vanilla game skipped these to get you right to the plot, but I guess the mod's logic is that you need to go through Cordon to get into the zone. Fun though as this time because you're friendly with the Military you can just waltz right through the place).

Ah, anyway, it looks fun from what I've played. The thing I'd say I was happiest about was turning on the game and instead of hearing the usual dreary soundtrack I was faced by some happy polka (there's an MP3 player as an item, and it changes the main menu to be tracks from there. Definitely cheered me up after listening to the same grungy music). That and everything isn't so fething grey!
