Yeah, I'm a Salphira Naian (due to your earlier post?) Not necessarily looking at crafting for money, though I'll gladly mine and sell stone and stone products for a little gild. Not entirely sure how the inter-player trades work right now, though, and I've realized I'm really still in the early tutorial levels yet- just got through the first couple Blue Salt Brotherhood missions.

So there's no way to get the proper dust or motes? I know you can mag-salvage stuff, and that's how I've been working on the Sun dust, but it's incredibly annoying getting Moon or Star instead (planning on making myself a shortspear when I can. Sad that the shortspear animations aren't all thrusts, but oh well).

the dust comes from coin purses, if you intend on going the armor route i would salvage any items you grow out of

The fight is far from being as hard as so many people claim. Both enemies heavily telegraph their attacks and their attack pattern is very limited.

Sigvatr: Perhaps, but after spending so long fighting big enemies that take several hits even with an ultragreatsword, it's nice to fight winged demons, whom I can kill in one hit, as long as I dodge their combos.

Oh, and also the painting guardians (whom I initially called "kkk-ninjas" until someone gave me their correct name), but that's just a single room so that hardly counts.

I know that my Naian is in a faction, but then I made a second character to play with a friend, who's Firran. I couldn't communicate between the Naian and the Firran, but when I made the Firran myself, we were in the same starting zone.

Seriously after my last rage quit i don't want to go back but seeing melissia get so far is kind of p*ssing me off. I'd rather her not get farther than me. While poking around Steam a little while back, I stumbled across a game called Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius. It's a combination of a sci-fi turn-based tactical game (with starships and mecha), and dating sim. The tactical elements aren't X-Com level depth, and I haven't played around with it enough to know how involved the dating sim elements get. But it's free, so I can't complain.

And then yesterday I happened to notice that the developers of Sunrider are apparently going to pull a reverse Muv-Luv move. Steam has a demo for a (presumably upcoming) game where you and all of the girls from Sunrider are attending the same high school.

Huh? Why would I hate her? I've always made it clear that I highly respect her for her vast knowledge of games and her well-written posts, while being too opinionated and emotionally involved in regards to one topic in order to get a normal discussion going. There are only 3 people on my super-ignore list and given the time on Dakka, I'd say that's a pretty low number

Not sure why it angers you that Melissia is farther ahead than you though

Must be his own feeling of despair, brougth out by not having beaten said obstacels. And I may add my voice to that opion regarding Melissa when it comes to games. I may not agree with her on all things game related or other things. But all in all I think she is a valued member of Dakka

There is not this idea.

Got a nostalgic itch and played Dawn of War Dark Crusade

You know, the voice acting is cheesy as can be, and people made fun of it, but it's a memorable kind of cheesy. And that ain't all bad.

I still enjoy the campaign map mode too. Not perfect, but it's something I would like to see more often.

Just waiting for the next patch in WOW, then finishing the Cata quest chain underwater.....Have to take out that drokking Kraken at the end.

I took out the whale shark as well. That was....well.....yeah quite scary. When it's already half your screen in size, and you aren't close enough to cast spells.

By themselves they're not that hard but together fighting you at the same time it's different. Spend too long attacking one and the other will jam its weapon up your ***. Not good times that's for sure.

The fight only becomes difficult if you are either underleveled or if you want to fight Smaug first in order to get Ornstein's soul (then again: why would you?), as Ornstein will always be in your back. Especially STR-fighters (such as Melissia) can get in trouble as attack animations (normally) are very long. Ornstein, however, is rather fragile and has low defenses, making it easy to take him down by your usual circle-strafing. As usual, however, STR-weapons are at a disadvantage and need to be quick on their toes as the window to start an attack is shorter for them. There really isn't much to say or give advice about the fight, it's pretty straight-forward with no secret tricks.

In case that anyone doesn't know it yet, there's an awesome song about Dark Souls; "Lordvessel" by Tanouki Suit. Careful, it has light spoilers.

Yeah, the archers are terrible and not well-designed. Dark Souls usually is hard because you need to figure out enemy patterns in order to defeat them, but in order to get by the archers, you have to exploit the poor AI.

I never found archers that difficult, because taking advantage of crappy AI is something I learned playing through NES games. ANyone remember the TMNT game, and the trick to defeating Bebop using Donatello? Heh.

... I feel old making that reference.

Haha, I assume you're roughly at my age then. Most NES games boiled down to exploiting, though...stuff like moving the screen back and forth to trigger enemy spawns, getting unlimited lives / points by exploiting spawn systems, trying to clip projectiles to avoid getting damaged etc. #nostalgia

Archers in general aren't a problem. There is a specific place in Anor Londo, however, that's rather annoying as the archers are on a small ledge above you and you have to cross a narrow path to get to them, making it impossible to dodge them. Blocking hardly works either as blocking means getting pushed back and likely falling down. There's a neat trick to get past them, though. Not sure if you got to that point yet, so I'll shush

The poor AI is DS biggest problem. This is bad in DS1 and even worse in DS2. The entire game minus the bosses suddenly becomes super easy mode if you choose a ranged weapon / magic. The problem is that From Software did not implement an actual AI. The AI is extremely basic and in order to not make the game too hard, FS implemented artificial area limitations. If an enemy comes across such an invisible line, he will immediately turn around and start walking back, allowing you to easily shoot at him. And even apart of that, enemies just ignore being shot at most of the time.

I'm really glad I didn't choose a ranged class then, cause that sounds boring.
