First game, crushed myself under debt until I got a handle on what resources are used by what
Second game, much more stable but had a bunch of AIs including 2 advance start AIs spawn all clustered around me, so only had about 3 planets I could colonize by the time colony ships were finally available and by that time everyone around me was "Overwhelming"
Third game has been -much- more successful. I've managed to colonize about 15 planets, have one of the larger small empires, and still have some room to grow.

For instance, I turned the Netherlands into a fascist state in 1937 and proceeded to land paratroopers in london effectively taking them out of the war before poland was even invaded. America never joined the allies and we turned mexico and Canada into fascists which eventually started eating the USA. Europe is 100% fascist and we're taking over russia and africa.
Well, the combined forces of Japan and the troops the US could spare halted the Russians at North Korea, with puppeted China holding firm as well. Meanwhile in Europe, Denmark, and a section of France held on, with help from a carrier-heavy Japanese fleet, and a bunch of planes. And, out of nowhere, Russia had a democratic Civil war, allowing us to seize a bunch of territory from the soviet union. Democratic Russia also joined the Allies, and after the Soviet Union was defeated, I got all my territories back. And then, after sending one of my armies and another fleet. The axis largely has conceded, Bulgaria and Romania are all that is left, and I got Sardinia out of it. I'm turning it into a fortress island with level 10 sea forts on all squares, and setting up production so it can be my European supply outpost if I need it.

Be careful when using mods, my better half has been plagued by issues caused by Mods, mainly faction unlockers and such. But the minor ones work well enough such as the conquer everywhere mod and cosmeticall changes
I mean you could probably play through plus that game for hours and hours but I'd like to see the other two before I get that invested.
Beating a boss was getting painful at the end though, not due to difficulty but because everyone would level up and there were nearly 20 characters in the party. It was a chain of everyone doing their level up cheer.

Good to know. Haven't tried any mods yet, but I was looking at some of the faction ones with hope. Really, I always preferred Estalia and Kislev and the other places like that to the Empire.
I can not play the dwarves to save my life. As a die hard TW multiplayer fan I've become too mobile dependent to like their play style. I also find them hilariously easy to stomp into paste. I can win with the dwarves but it is always by the skin of my teeth.
I killed about 6 armies of theirs with just one of mine at third health. It didn't help they had some armies of all siege engines coming at me.
Edit
Which is really weird since I'm a spartan aficionado from Rome 2, but even they had some basic disposable cavalry. The only other army I could play better was Carthage with their crazy good cavalry.

Reinstalled Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete, going through a playthrough.

Also, also, I downloaded the Battle Fleet Gothic game on my iPad to take with me on my work trips. Fun so far. Completed the tutorial. Just started the single campaign.
Timesplitters 2. Decided to start a new save file, just for the heck of it, and because it's been like ten years since I actually played the story missions.
Xcom 2 on legendary difficulty (so hardest). More enemies, more hp on enemies, all times increased on the global map (injury, time to contact, time to add relays, research times up to a ridiculous level, construction time and just about everything that takes time in general except the little resources rewards you get for successful mission), costs are also higher esp. on anything worth a ****. Basically it's the hardest time i've ever had. Even with good luck there's still the possibility to get the wrong missions and get to an objective one turn too late or not have the right guys left for a mission. Also if 3 patrols activate on you all at once there's nothing you can really do except evac if possible. Trust me you will lose your whole team against those odds nearly every time. Construction boost helps a ton but i dunno if heal boost does on resistance hq bonus.
It is so hard. I often get down to one territory because aliens can annihilate areas in retaliation so easily even by just one civilian and often they shoot civvies as you fight the aliens like when you stun them.
Think the prices are nuts in 2nd hardest difficulty? For a mimic beacon it costs 3 faceless and 100 supplies. Honestly i think 35 supplies for a stun grenade is much better. I realize what i said about stun grenades earlier but honestly it's less than 1/3 of the cost if you take the faceless into account and with 100 supplies it's a massive investment when i have to buy better gear for my soldiers. It just doesn't cut it esp. when my hp is low.
Anyway hardest difficulty on xcom 2 is nuts. Play it if you want to strain your sanity and rage.

Picked up Mad Max for cheap-ish, thoroughly enjoying tooling around and harpooning bad guys, then stealing their cars for my collection. I'm a bit low level to be taking on convoys, but that hasn't stopped me!
The atmosphere and visuals are astounding, the only thing I'm a little less happy about is the controls - I keep accidentally blasting the dirt with my precious shotgun ammo!
I expect I'll soon get the hang of it though. I feel like I have a little bit of a head start: I used to spend hours driving in the wasteland in Jak 3, on PS2, so this feels a bit like a more awesome version of that.
Great fun!
Hackjng away at hyperdimension Neptunia rebirth 2 or whatever. Main characters (well some of them) are awol and their temporary stand ins are less endearing. Gameplay and most everything are pretty much the same, but more of the same isn't bad here.
The voice acting/writing seems to have stepped up a little bit, some of it was a bit halting/awkward/idunno-but-not-quite-right in the previous game and now it's a bit smoother. So long chains of dialogue/story tend to get broken up a little more which is nice for how often I need to stop.
Been crashing more than the previous game and the cut scenes are super choppy but I think we can lay at least some of that at my poor little machine's feet.
Also been playing bg:ee a bit which really means I've been making loads of characters and having trouble choosing one, plotting out my party in the second and third installments even though I may not get there, and researching oldschool 2nd editon dnd rules and various nuances of the games. One of these days I'll get playing, the newest features of the enhanced edition are ry swell.
Anyone played the new BG, dragonspire or something?

Wish I still had a PS2 so I could play that and Future Perfect too - such great games!
I convinced my brother to buy Overwatch on his PC while he waits for a new one so that I can buy the one he is using currently, so I'm back in the Overwatch saddle for a little while; mainly trying to get better with some of the characters that I'm not so great with while perfecting my skills on Lucio and D.VA
Also playing XCOM Enemy Within on mobile. It's aged pretty bad imo compared to XCOM 2, which has much more concise and reliable game mechanics. Playing it on Classic but no Iron Man because Thin Men on Classic are the most broken thing ever featured in a video game. Plus random bull keeps happening.
I'm still playing Clash Royale, surprisingly, despite it being one of the most frustrating games I played this year, as my zap spell lags when I use it 9 times out of 10, often meaning I lose 2 elixir for nothing. Still a fun card game if anyone hasn't tried it
Finishing the free games I've accumulated on Xbox Live.
Enjoyed Costume Quest 2, which was linear but a surprising amount of fun.
Put Van Helsing on pause for now, I think I may have to talk someone else into playing it to beat some of the harder sections.
Also completed The Wolf Among Us, which was so excellent, a purchased the first collected edition of Fables by Bill Willingham, and plan on owning them all (if I can decide between paperback and deluxe edition).

Started The Evil Within. It's good and gory, but the third-person camera is jammed right up the character's behind, making gameplay difficult.

Yes, it is excellent.
^_^
And the e-reader version for me.
I can do books on e-readers, but not comics. I'm a dead tree comic guy through and through.
Starbound! Now to put in another few hundred houirs now that it's reached version 1.0

Oooh. Actually being able to finish quests and stuff? That sounds fun, though ceaselessly building buildings was always charming in its own right.
May have finally settled in BG. Gonna run a blade because I like bards. A fighter/mage (or fighter/illusionist gnome, or fighter kit-->dual class into mage) could probably do most things better but the spins are neat and because I like bards... Chaotic neutral too so I can basically hang out with anyone, planning to explore some of the characters throughout the saga that I may have missed or underutilized.
Also on the back burner is a party I've always wanted to run, the Shorties. Lead by a dashing Cleric/Thief the party can only recruit gnomes, halflings, and dwarves. Well maybe one exception for one of the two NPCs that will romance a gnome, allowances made for the boss's lady friend etc.. But maybe not, he could always go stag. The theme/restriction forces me to use some characters that I've always wanted to try but never really made room for (Mazzy and Korgan from BG2, Tiax, Alura, and Quale from BG1) and gets a couple of my favorites in there too, plus it's a good excuse to use a Cleric/Thief and those are always fun.
Of course, I've got at least half a dozen other characters I want to play. Halfling Assassin, Kensai "Sword Saint" that's mastered axes/daggers but only to throw them , Dragon Sorcerer, the new Shaman class..etc ad infinitum. Really would like to do a Stalker (sneakier backstabbier ranger) that dual classes to cleric even though they fixed the ranger->cleric slash ranger/cleric getting all the druid spells thing (made for a very interesting caster, but any ranger/-cleric combo is still more interesting IMO than fighter/cleric) but yeah...only so much time
Still chugging away at that Neptunia rebirth: 2 or whatever, and of course casual Pokemon Going.

Also I think I mentioned I reinstalled Neverwinter Nights 2... basically restarted the game several times lol. Need to find that mod that lets me have drow with elf statlines, cause I hate the level modifier for some races.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah there we go, found out waht to change, tested it out and it works. Will have to play some tomorrow.

More xcom 2 on legend ironman. I can't take this. It's too hard. The farthest i got was 2 runs at the end of june. Avatar progress almost finished and i just couldn't handle it. Game is hard. Any slip ups are punished mercilessly. Injuries take forever to heal, all times to do everything is increased except mission timers and the 3 week reports. It's just hard. I need a break.
I think i'll either play vermintide or Total War: warhammer in the mean time.
