THE ARMY’S COMMANDER PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE?
Whilst working on updating my dread and painting the spire guard I decided to do a few things regarding the army’s HQ.

Mini-Magnus
I was quite pleased when I completed this model but the fact is while he looks fantastic next to the more colourful troops he looks rather dull and that’s something a commander should never be.



I doubt I’ll use him in future now with all the possibilities the new allies rules have opened up. So after I’ve completed the Pyrae commander I will be putting Mini-Magnus up for sale.
So if anyone is interested in buying Mini-Magnus please PM me.

Pyrae Commander
Still a great looking model I look forward to using him now as a Librarian with Pyromancy abilities from the new rulebook. I’m even considering making commanders for the Corvidae (Divination) & Raptora (Telekinesis), sadly no Athanaeans (Telepaths) or Pavoni (Biomancers) thou. But rather than painting 3 white robes 'shudder' maybe make the upper body exchangeable.



After I complete the spire guard squad I’m going to have a 2nd attempt at painting those robes white, can't think of a better alternative than purple and I want him to stand out.

A Mystic Juggernaut?
With the new allies rules, I’m able to field my Cataphract robots as Wolf Guard terminators using the combi-weapons to better justify the shoulder mounted weapon. So I got to thinking about a possible Logan proxy so I can field him and two squads of robots as allies. While looking I found this dude and I must say with a few egyptian details, scripture and new weapons (maybe a crystal hammer) he could look the part?

Well if it was me I would make a robot commander for them to make it a more consistent squad. I am not saying you should not get that guy, I would love to see what you did with it! I am just saying that a big robot boss would make more sense.

Thats one nice looking lil magnus! and interested in seeing how you go about converting this minotaur ( and incase you didnt know, back when the flyers where just released one of your grot rebelion flyers where on the whats new today, bringing back some good memories of my first days at dakka )

THE ROAR OF PROSPERO SPIRE GUARD’S CANNONS
It has taken a long time but I finally completed my Prospero Spire Guard’s heavy weapon teams that will be fielded as a henchmen squad with 6 warriors with boltguns, 3 plasma cannons servitors and my Hidden One Agent Inquisitor. I might be making some alternative weapons for the ‘Firestorms’ turrets most likely a missile launcher in case I wish to field them as Imperial Guard allies instead of henchmen.




Here's a few images of the turret from different angles, I had to go back and add a bit more red and gold to the top part of the weapon as most of it was painted black to the point it didn’t seem to match up with the lower half.



Now I’m going to begin work on the mid-field Spire Guard units backed up by my Mechanicus Mastermind bots. But first I want to get the commander painted up but like before the white is proving to be a challenge! I’m also made an adjustments to the Cataphract robot based on the biggest focus point of the critique received which you might see in my next post if the bits arrive in time.

I can't wait to see what you will do with the Moloch model. I love this mini, but the minotaur symbols always prevented me from going for it.

Those heavy weapons team are fantastic. I'm now going to have to trawl through the other 12 pages and not paint anything myself.

ZUL AZADAR; COMMANDER OF THE PYRAE!
I swiftly made plans to make a new commander model soon after the completion of Mini-Magnus not just because of his dull contrast to the basic troops but also because I couldn‘t use him in those few generous GW stores that allowed me to use my terminators which is understandable. So I give you my Pyrae Commander...



I had to change the robes because after 3 attempts the one I had intended to use was ruined. The sword also took a lot of time, thou I had to repaint it when I got the shades the wrong way round the first time. :p
I plan to place a Space Wolf shield on the base that’s been burned through with a heat beam on the pillar in front of him, but that will have to wait till I can find the time to also repaint the dying space wolf from my terminators to the darker pre-heresy scheme.

As for now it’s back to the spire guard, also the plasma cannon squad worked wonders in their first game this week better than 1 Vindicare for sure.

Great piece! Where do the flaming swords come from? I've seen them before.

It's from the Warhammer Empire Wizard box set (great kit for bits). That's also where the neck frill comes from.

MY WARLORD TRAIT AND PSYCHIC CARDS
After playing a few games of sixth edition I had trouble remembering my Warlord’s traits and psychic powers. So rather than pay £12 for the oversized GW ones I made my own sets for Personal Warlord traits, Pyromancy and Divination using some magic card templates and artwork from the web.

The artwork for the Warlord and Divination cards are from the Horus Heresy art books whilst the Pyromancy one is off Deviantart and can be found HERE!

WHAT THAT IN THE SKY?
I’ve incorporated most of the things mentioned in the Thousand Sons novel into the army such as the Automatons, tularies and Spire Guard, but I’ve been struggling to come up with an idea on how to convert a Prospero Disc Speeder. In the novel I envisioned them looking similar to the NOD Banshee from Tiberian Sun PC game, I was tempted to convert the Necron flyer but knew it would very likely still look Necron in origin.



Then I got my brainstorm while I was at my local GW store painting some bases, some guy next to me on the painting stations got out his bits box which had parts of a drop pod his younger brother had broken. I asked him if I could look at it and after reattaching one of the panels. I saw my Prospero Disc Speeder (or at least a variant).

The plan is to attach the main part of the turret from the storm raven where the missile launcher is for the cockpit, extend the engine out and add the missile launchers from the storm talon on the top corners of the drop pod engine.

I’ve considered what to use it as and decided a Vendetta/Valkyire would be best because…
1. I can easily take a small allied guard force for it, compared to space marine allied where both the troop choice and 100pt marine HQ won’t really do much.
2. 3 Exchangeable Weapons, 2 under the wings and 1 under the cockpit.
3. Rear armour 10 compared to the storm raven, which makes sense since it’s where the engine is.
4. I will not use it as a transport!
5. I can take up to 3 if I really want to, might make a 2nd depending on how well it does.

So what do you think to the Helliousa class fighter concept?

FORCES OF PROSPERO CODEX COVER!
In previous projects I’ve often commissioned an artist to create a kind of codex cover for the army and with tournament season coming up I thought it was time the Thousand Sons got one featuring some of the armies best units such as the spire guard and terminators.

I was pleased to find an artist called Noldofinve on Deviantart who was interested in creating a codex cover for me, a few days ago she sent me this rough sketch. Needless to say I can’t wait to see the finished piece given the quality of her other 40k artwork.

I love the fact that this project is of little personalised things (codex cover, trait and psychic cards etc), really is a joy to follow.

This army really is absolutely amazing man. It's a source of inspiration for me in terms of going about making a Heresy Era army.

MUSTER THE SPIRE GUARD!
Aside from Psychic marines the Grey Knight codex had one large benefit which was the ability to field human units aside Astartes (before 6th edition) and after three weeks of work the first Spire Guard strike team is complete. In game it is a henchmen squad consisting of 4 warriors with Boltguns and 5 warriors with carapace armour (the riot shields) with 2 Boltguns and 3 Plasma guns.



I created the Plasma Carbine weapons using guard flamers and a plasma pistol which are easy items to come across instead of buying the actual Plasmaguns themselves.



Another model that will be added to the squad soon will be my Zanatorian Weaponsmith representing the Jokaero to give the squad some interesting gameplay, which I’ll build after the 2nd squad is completed.

THE SPIRE GUARD GENERAL
Since I’m using the henchmen squads for the Prospero Spire Guard I need to field Inquisitor Coteaz so I’ve created this general conversion to represent him. He was holding the hammer in his left hand which looked silly given how much it likely weights so I changed it to the other hand and gave him a heroic like pose.



I’ll hopefully have him painted by the end of the week.

I like the guard alot, and your general looks cool so far, although I need to ask why is the hammer upsidedown? Thats the only part that looks weird to me

Well I thought it best to have him resting it on the ground since I couldn't have him holding it up with 1 hand due to how stupid that would look given it's size and him being only human.

you could have the hammer side up and have an open hand leaning on it if you understand what im saying

I used an angelus boltgun as a replacement for the cyber eagle..Don't know if that would work for what you are going for, but I hope it sparks some ideas =)

REPAIRS COMPLETE!
A few pages back I uploaded an Cataphract robot conversion which I planned to build a squad of which would represent some allied wolf guard terminators in the army, the feedback for the earlier model was very helpful as people pointed out that the legs still looked Tau based. So in response to this I removed the hoof feet and replaced them with interceptor backpacks and plasticard to create more robotic looking feet. I then covered up the joint using part of the barrel of the burst cannon.



This is a far better improvement to the Tau feet and add to the robotic appearance of the Cataphract. I also plan to convert an optional Thousand Sons Techmarine to represent the brotherhood of psykers rule when I need them to replace my standard terminators at Throne Of Skulls in January, or perhaps not with the newly revealed forgeworld Justaerin Terminators that I feel will make great Paladins!

KILL TEAM PROJECT; LEGIO CYBERNETICA MANIPLE OR THE OUTCAST DEAD?
GW are planning to hold a Kill Team tournament in December, which I signed up straight away. In case you are unaware of kill team rules it's basically a 200pt game where you can take 0-1 elite, 0-2 troops, 0-1 Fast attack and once the game begins every model is treated independently. Also 3 models can be made 'specialists' and be given a universal special rule (you can not take the same rule more than once) The rule of the game is as soon as your kill team is reduced to under half strength you must take a ld test (using the highest) each turn, once you fail it you team flees and you lose.

Sadly due to GW’s constant price rises and attitude toward the hobby I decided to only expand on the Thousand Sons and Grot Rebelz, however this presents me with a chance to flex my creativity again without fear of how much it will cost.

I’ve come up with many ideas for fully converted Kill Teams and it's come down to these two, which is why I’m eager to hear your thoughts on each of the ideas?

LEGIO CYBERNETICA ROBOT MANIPLE
Since my Cataphract Robot conversion(s) featured above might not be needed at Throne Of Skulls I'm debating a Legio Cybenetica kill team using as allied Wolf Guard terminators (for the combi weapon). Regarding the 'specialist' rules: the techmarine will likely have FNP, 1 of the robots will have a unique weapon that will represent a storm bolter with 'Fleshbane' and another will have a shield generator to represent shrouding.

The Kill Team will consist of 4 terminators with combi weapons (one being a Techmarine conversion for the kill team leader) plus two power armoured warriors with storm bolters, converted as Hunter Seeker robots like this pervious conversion but with a bolter on each side.



In the novel the Thousand Son’s robots are painted a regal blue and gold (exp; my army’s Conqueror robots) but I’m thinking of maybe making these out to be mechanicus based and give them a more darker and gritter colour scheme instead of that of the thousand sons robots?

THE OUTCAST DEAD
Unless you haven't read the novel ‘The Outcast Dead’ was a band of escaped prisoners of marines from the traitor legions that attempted to escape Terra though the slums of the city with an Astropath that held powerful knowledge of the future. The armour they created was of crude design so they’d be converted from Ork, Chaos Maraduer and power armour bits. I will be making an effort to make them more armoured than on the front cover, so most of them will look similar to this space wolf model on the right here and be in at least 50% power armour.



They were a powerful group of warriors so I’ll likely be using them as 7 BA Death Company marines.

Atharva - Adeptus Exemptus of the Thousand Sons (Kill team leader with the Psyker (telepathy) rule)
Tagore - Sergeant, 15th Company of the World Eaters (power sword to represent the shattered halberd from the custodian guard)
Subha - Warrior, 15th Company of the World Eaters
Asubha - Warrior, 15th Company of the World Eaters
Severian (The Wolf) - Warrior, 25th Company of the Luna Wolves (shrouding)
Kiron - Warrior, 28th Company of the Emperor's Children (master crafted plasma pistol, his main weapon in the novel taken from one of the guards)
Gythua - Warrior of the Death Guard (Thunder Hammer)

The theme has a lot of potential as I could have the astropath Kai Zulane as my objective marker, my only worry is people not knowing who the Outcast Dead are?.

Well what do you think; the Legio Cybernetica is more suited for a kill team theme whilst the Outcast Dead have more character, the only problem is people not knowing who they are. Anyway I'm eager to hear which idea you would prefer to see me convert into a Kill Team?
