Mostly, on my phone.

PVA maybe? You can get hobby clear resin but yeah, it's pricey. Tbh though you could cheat - tinted tubes would be a neat way if you can figure out how to suspend yhe gribblies. If you add some dots of pva on the inside of the tube, and maybe mount it on a flying base within the tube, then it'll create the necessary illusion.

Hmm, could work Graven, the bonus is the encases mini's are suspended from the top cap of the bio chambers so I could probably dot some pva on the inside to look like bubbles when it dries? then tint the plastic somehow? even though the idea is proving tricky I'm loving the 'out of the square' thinking we have to do to figure it out :-) just means whatever works will help someone else down the track! I might go find some similar plastic and 'speriment' on it!

Oh so much cool stuff in here. I should check out this painting log really more often. Tons of creative ideas to nick. (Or to scratch my head about how you did it) Hellbrute is the bestone I've seen so far. The veins really are good stuff on there. Marble effect on the Aquila is top notch as well. The fountain looks really neat. The effect on the water isn't exactly what I envisioned judging from the pictures HOWEVER it looks really good. Got a very artistic feel to it. The statue looks neat too. I like how you made it look a bit less sharp (in terms of details) and kind of corroded looking. Sometimes 28mm statues look a bit off due to them being repainted regular minis standing next to their colleagues, looking the same, just in bronze. Not a problem with this one though.

I'll pay a visit more frequently I think. Mostly because I'm eager to see how the stained glass works out.

Hey sigur I really am glad you're back around Dakka! and glad you dropped back into the 'ol painting blog I've been toying around with a few things just to keep myself in the hobby state of mind while my painting mojo is lacking! and the strange thing is I'm actually enjoying it, the waste pit I wanted to make look oily in the beginning and as I worked on it i thought i'd try and give it a bit of a futuristic feel and make it look like liquid mercury with an oil sheen

And I truly feel humbled you like the Hellbrute so much I tried a new technique different than that i'm used to as i am working on it for a friend and it doesn't need to tie in with my force, still more to do on him and after your praise he may get some brushwork tomorrow now!

Ah the statue I didn't want to go down the painted standard mini path and originally looked for a 54mm scale inquisitor or something similar but couldn't find anything I liked so I searched for doll house statues etc. and found her and she's great! and the effect was a lucky accident! i didn't have any Hawk turquoise so i studied the effect on real statues and tried to copy the look with what i had, turned out happily better than i hoped!

stained glass! oh man, seriously I am excited to do that! I have wanted to do it since seeing the old old old ruined 40K chapel with the stained glass in it years ago! I now have nearly all i need to finish them but my father (who owns a printing and advertising agency) is using his good press to print them out for me but he's in thailand until next week and up until he left the press was flat out and he couldn't re set it before he left! bugger! but soon he'll be back and i shall have them in my hands! and hopefully a new avatar!

if you have any questions about how I did anything i'm more than happy to add any hints to your already prodigious painting skills Siggy!

look forward to seeing you hang out with us madcap loonies here!

Luckily we didn't make it very far hence how we got caught! I don't believe it was tuned in the first place so it might have sounded better after we hijacked it lol! that's what you get for drinking a challenge of a jar of pickle juice mixed with pineapple and Vodka

The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.

Some hobby stores do this clear resin that comes in little blobs. You melt them in the cup and pour it onto whatever you want. As for tinting it you might need to tint the tube itself.

just a thought on filling the Bio chambers, since they're only quite small being 28mm scale, perhaps i could use a thicker clear substance to fill them, perhaps like clear silicone from a caulking gun? I could perhaps squeeze some out to tint it and then put it in? and that way it'll only cost me $3- scratch that i have some in the shed :-)

do you think this idea is plausible?

Only one way to find out I suppose and if they don't work out I guess you can either toss them or repurpose them. Just make spares, could even be empty ones.

Hey NF09 if Liquitex is available you can try the gloss super heavy gel or gloss gel medium. The super heavy looks white but does dry clear in several days. I use these for water effects cause you can use a brush or Popsicle stick to make waves, the super heavy is great for that.
Also if there is a scale model train store they have a larger bottle of water effects which is cheaper then our hobby ones from GW and Vallejo.
But if you do use caulking make sure it says it dries super clear, this also will be foggy for couple hours or days. Scale modeler been using them for years and they just add inks to tint it. Let me know if it works out.

I dunno, Ill say maybe? The only problem I have, is as thick as the silicone would be, it might not dry completely. If it does though, its going to take a good week Id bet. Test it out on/in something else beforehand?!

Couple of things guys, firstly I went and ransacked my garden shed for silicone! but couldn't find any :-( but i did find something even better!! it's still silicone product but as it says on the tube 'Dries 19x clearer than silicone' woo hoo sounds perfect for me! :-) hopefully the bio tubes arrive this week then i can do them quickly!

secondly I got a new TATTOOOOOO! :-) and I'm stoked with it, he did a great freehand job of a Pinup girl based on my beautiful Nerdwench, one sit 2.5 hours, only got one shot of the main image but he also did more on the other side leading out from my last ink, I'll get some more pics and pop them up over the next day or 2!

Ah yes, picture updates..... ummm,......soon? I have some buildings that are just finished building and got a supply drop from a couple of places so i'll tease you with some pics tomorrow and i have a kind of test I want to do for myself you know how i like to preach about doing quick paint jobs good for tt quality right? well, i have a model of a DKoK Commissar and i was hoping I could do a kinda live paintjob? sit down and paint him in one hour from start to finish and then post up the result! I can skype someone at the start to confirm the newness of the model etc. and then challenge myself to do a cool and decent job to get me back into the swing of painting again? anyone want to come onboard and encourage me? (please) I was hoping to paint him up on monday morning my time then i suppose i'll finally finish my speeders and perhaps my Sternguard? we'll see how easy my brush behaves for me!

Dredd indeed rocked... and the soundtrack is awesome too. I kinda liked the vision of MC1, but I wanted it to be more chaotically designed - as a 2000AD fanboy from my youth, I know what MC1 looks like!
However, I did totally spaz out when I saw the Chopper graffiti, and I am praying that they do the Chopper story lines as the movie series - would love to see Oz! >geeks out just a little bit more<

this is the area I want a crane off;

Also built my adminastratum building, it's MASSIVE chucked an extra floor or so to make it perfect for sniping in Cities of death

a bit of jewelers chain

A bunch of cables for... stuff

and a bunch of power cables to power my terrain consoles and bio chambers and...stuff

Mmh, very nice stuff there! I may have to pay these good fellas a visit too some time to score some conversion bitz!

(Damn you for tempting me again to buy new toys! Since I did this silly pledge not to get anything new not a single day passes that I wouldn't get tempted to buy something. )

I got one of those Administratum kits too. Fun stuff to play around with. Not sure if it's too suited for my own gaming due to consisting mainly of holes but it's nice to have around for army shots and whatnot.

Since it's been ages since I painted anything I wanted to test myself with a little project today I had model of the DKoK Commissar and I attempted to paint him in only 1hr! I took a pic of him at the start and was on Skype with Vel'cona to confirm the attempt was legit

the start:

and then after an hour of frantic painting I ended up with this result:

Love to know what you think? I'll finish him later this week I reckon but I don't think he's bad for such a fast session!

You lot are awfully picky for a 1 hour paint job. I think that looks really impressive, specially for an hour. So now that youve challenged yourself, finisher off and make that Commissar look how that commissar should look. And Ill be picky, because thats easily my fav Commissar mini ever made.

Actually, I think the figure looks great Damo... but an obvious mold line, especially a big one... just draws too much attention away from the fine work you've done on the rest of the fig.
