So I suppose then that terrain is going to be my next big test? I really enjoy what I do when it comes to models and I have the same passion about the created world we play them in, but I've never got a solid grasp on the aesthetics of the terrain like Cam & Dsteingass have among others.I do feel I need to add more vibrancy to the colour choices and splashes, lucky I've got a few buildings to play around with soon and by soon I mean after I've done the large Dropfleet army for RiTides and the Lictor project for myself :-)

There are two kinds of people, Terrain lovers, and everyone else. You DO get the aesthetic, 100%, yours is just unique, different from mine, or Cam's, or Vik's. Let your terrain flag fly brother! There is room and advice aplenty.

If I could make a suggestion: Start out with smaller, linear terrain, pieces of cover, ammo crates, walls, pipes, other mobile scatter terrain, then move onto bigger things, your stuff will all blend better. That way you can try different techniques, and still get to use them in games or even for photo backdrops.

Oh, and when it comes to weathering, there are two schools, Comical fits the general 40K aesthetic that GW prints, and Realistic Weathering, where less is generally more.

Then there is my school, which is "make it look as filthy and disgusting and corroded, and rotted as I can"

Mad is how I roll crazy is the air I breathe and innuendo is the blood in my veins!

Thanks Dave for the support, I am sort of collecting a few smaller scatter bits of terrain to work on so they will appear soon, the can tank was already primed metal so I just grabbed it first I have to admit though I do lean more towards the dirtier the better and I especially love your current industrial yellow work.

Az, Tassie is probably better than Victorias weather now days mate! but I see your point! it's only going to get colder and wetter and worserer! this I see as a benefit to give myself the excuse to light the wood fire in the garage and stay out there for a while listening to the rain on the roof while I create my 3 boards for armies on parade!

So my working life for a week or so has been very debilitating when it comes to models and paint hence my quietness, but i'm nearly done with RiTides 50 or so space ships and then I'll get them under the brush and start cutting and re posing the Lictor when it arrives.

I probably wouldn't argue you that point right now, The weather here is miserable and sucky. At least it's not all thunderstormy right now. I hate that stuff. I hear you on the working week as well. I still can't see how you pump out so many quality figures, though...

I think Az i'm just super organised with my styles! I know what i'm doing before I start painting and I usually work on a lot of models painting the same colour or layer on each one as a whole before moving on, I also paint all the colours that will get the same colour wash at once so I shade both at the same time, also i'm very fast lol! :-) imagine a mad orchestra conductor but with brush instead of baton, that's pretty much me on a daily!

I wish I could get myself more organised. But once I get the shed sorted out (once we actually move into the new place) I am hoping to get it all properly set up and then we will see if I am even half the hobbyist that you guys all are. Although set up advice for a hobby area would be much appreciated......

You should check Dsteingass' last 10 pages or so then as he redid his workspace in his new home. Lot of nice ideas from him and the community

Yeah Dsteingass' hobby area is the ultimate set up! very jealousy inducing! my own isn't so grand, I managed to buy a near new large school desk with a hutch and drawers for $80. and I grabbed a shelf with glass doors from Fantastic Furniture, my paints are in the mdf pot holders in front of me which works since the desk is large it gives me a good working area and I can literally have one side 'to do' and the other 'done' while I work in the middle. I can snap some pics if you want an idea? mine is also set up in the smallest bedroom in the home as a dedicated Nerd Lair.

Aww shucks Seriously, more space just means more mess, because you can go longer without cleaning it up. Very liberating though on the upside

Not where I should be

Totally agree with Dave, the second you have space you fill it with more stuff, gets to a critical mass sometimes.

Have restrained from commenting, not really sure why. That scenery piece is great bud, your style is your own and your metal technique is to die for. If I may be so bold a few suggestions. (can't believe I am doing this! ) The rust is brilliant, the yellow paint is good, not how I would do it, but that is how we are here, your style is yours, Daves is his, mine is mine, and there are always dozens better at it out there. I would only work on the edges of the yellow, to make it look like has peeled off. You could get some alcohol or some Mentholated spirits and a cotton bud and rub away the paint at the edges, can be very effective. The red paint is winding me up though, it looks to painted on, is it meant to be rust streaks, or blood splatter, or is it were someone is attempting to repaint the tank? One trick I use for staining like I think you are trying for, is to put the watery paint on at the top, then add water, or in my case I add rubbing alcohol and water mixed, let it naturally run down, the alcohol lets it evaporate quick enough. and the runs go where they naturally should. Also experiment with taking the wet paint off, using a sponge or tissue over wet paint has very interesting effects for larger surfaces.

Overwhelmingly honoured you put me and Dave in the same sentence.

I am going to shut up now and will probably delete or edit this post down to, "Well done Nerdy", shortly. I am in awe of your skills sir and feel conscious of my lack there of.

Thanks for the leads. Have looked at what Dsteingass has and had to put the jealousy back in the cupboard. Am framing the inside of the shed this weekend. So should be able to get it clad as well so a sparky can get it all wired up for me soon. Then a bit of paint to the walls and I can start moving in with the shelves, desk and think about starting to make the gaming table.

Steve, your models are built but not sure when I can finish them.

i'm sorry guys, hopefully I can get through this.

Thank you so much guys, I honestly appreciate the well wishes and concern and you'll be happy to know we've started an avenue of communication and it doesn't look like the end which is wonderful for our future together, still a way to go but i'm at least a more positive frame of mind and doing everything in my power to fan the flame of love and contentment.

much love to you all for being here for me, it means a lot.
