Update on me, and things are looking much better already! I have moved back home and we're talking well and thrashed a few things out even to the point we went out for burgers and Kmart which is great, thank you all for the support during this guys, I have/had no idea which way this test would swing and whether i'd still be engaged and have a home or if i'd be living back with my parents at 36 years old! but things are good and while i'll still be taking things slowly I'm confident i'll be back in full swing in a week or two.
love you all and sincerely appreciate each and every one of you.

I've watched 2 geek marriages implode over the last year, and 1 very near miss. I'm hoping and crossing things that can be crossed (and some that can't) that you remain in the near miss category.

You had me worried there with the phrase "moved back home" since it often gets used in the opposite way. Good to hear things are shaping up better now.

Thanks guys, Nerdwench and I are all good, still going to Vegas for our wedding in October so I am putting it down to a test of our longevity and we succeeded with overcoming the hurdle, been together 10 years and that was our first argument so I suppose it was always gonna be a good one! but, yes, I am back home in the good sense, I did spend a few days with my parents and eating my mums cooking was punishment enough
so how about a model to kick things back into gear?
I have always loved the Lictors, the models and the fluff behind them! ever since I started I've loved them but not enough to do a Nid force so I'm thinking I might just do an artistic series of them in different battle zones? urban, jungle, sewer, feeding, hiding? also this was my first attempt to use a 2 part resin liquid for a deep base, still more learning to do to stop the concave lip and to seal the bases better for pouring as well as how much colour to add for what effect.
Overall i'm happy with how he looks, he might be a slight bit bright on the edge highlights? but it gives him his shape so you know he's a creepy creepy death machine.

Encouraging you have been able to move your relationship forward. It can be tough when you butt heads to remember why you are together. So fingers crossed you go from strength to strength.
I have been in some rough patches in my marriages a few times. But I just try to remind myself why I wanted to get into it in the first place.
Good to see you back on the brushes. The Lictor looks incredible. Please do one emerging from the trees to harpoon a hapless ork.......

As for the lictor, just amazing. Love the base, the slight lip gives a sense of movement in the ....water....to my eye. The lictor itself looks great. I got to ask you, how long did this take?
Hi Nerd, sorry to read about your recent troubles, but equally relieved that they all blew over before I caught up and had time to worry too much!
On a hobby note, the lictor is gorgeous, the water effect is of course awesome, but its the mottled effect on the skin which i love the most, hopw to see you experimenting with this more in the future.
Overall excellent work. Though unable to produce such quality I still might have gone with a different color choice for the carapace. Yours looks amazing for texture. but looking at it I would have gone more Green.
Water effect are great and the base is perfect.

Great news and great Lictor, Damo. I really like the more flesh like skin tones you used on him. I've never used that kind of water effect so it looks fantastic to me.
Great Lictor, Damo. The murky water effect looks great. More importantly, though, it's good to hear that things have gotten back on track with you guys.
Camkierhi wrote:Wonderful news, really happy for you.
Now to important stuff.

This IMHO is one of the better tut vids.
However, I really like what you have done, looks awesome, think people do there bases oversize and sand them down, polish the edges.
Lictor,:
Stunning, so creepy and menacing really top work, the edge highlights add to the effect for me, give it a ethereal quality. Fantastic.
Now go take care of your wonderful Nerdwench.
Thanks Cam, I watched Terrain Wench vids a few times, she describes everything really nicely for a beginner and i've ordered some thick gel medium to try some ripples and waves next time, I really quite enjoy using it to make different effects but i'm yet to attempt to file edges or polish anything in case I ruin it. if you know any other places I can check out i'm more than happy to have a look! might have to send one of them your way when i've done my collection

And that lictor is a great way to get the hobby ball rolling again, wonderfully moody and grim. Inspiring!
Thanks Para, i'm much more relaxed now things are back to some level of normality and I wanted to get back into it with a smaller project that was more fun than professional

Archer you nailed it mate, gotta focus on the why rather than the now sometimes and we're good and comfortable again. as for the next Lictor I want a jungle one so having an Ork in the water gives me another excuse to use the water effects again

j/k much love and support for you two!
Thanks Davo, appreciate it mate, Nerdwench and I have always had a strong but confusing connection where she's seriously serious and focused and I like to spend money on anything that can make someone laugh or shake their head in wonder why a grown man is in a pub dressed as Wario lamenting his troubles with his cousin Mario

Hi San, I can see the movement and the lip isn't bad per se but just something I'd like to learn how to avoid in bigger projects. as for how long? I had him painted in about 3 hours, I know I could have spent more time and really gone to town but I am still happy with him.

Oh yes Big J i'll be doing more fun stuff just to test out things don't worry! and thank you, I hope to be as smooth as your blending one day!

Thanks Solar, I was originally going to go green but thought the contrast with the water wouldn't be great enough? he is the first one so hopefully my GS skills (or lack of) will get better for cooler works!

Thanks dude! I chose a easy resin to use and it's not hard to work with and isn't very fragrant so with more experiment i'll see what i can do!

Subject: Nerdfest09's Blog now sneakily featuring a Lictor hunting in the bowels of a hive,
Hey guys, i've made some progress on 2 of my 3 Armies on Parade boards, the Ork board is further along since it's easier to detail the Minotaur's one i've got a great blueprint to work on and think it'll look really cool when it's further advanced, so lets have a look in more depth eh!
Ork board, I wanted it to be fairly sparse with one larger focal point, this case it's the Orky fortification made from a shoe box lid and various roughly trimmed bits of plastic and semi melted room keys from a hotel I used some old tank treads and larger resin gates to make some rough barricades and cork bits to make some nice flat parts. I then went over it all with a slightly watered down pre mixed filler and added some good old fashioned garden dirt a little primer and that's where we're at.
Now my favorite board build at the moment, I wanted to get away from the ruined dirty battle scenes and do a clean display, I had a bunch of cake tier columns which suit the army as well as a few bits of balsa wood in various sizes the plan is to leave the wood and stain it and varnish to look like wooden floor (obviously) to offset the polished timber I wanted marble but couldn't bring myself to paint it so I thought outside the box and bought a self adhesive marble vinyl floor tile and cut it into rough squares to use as tiles next i'll work on a small balcony for the rear of the board and then start paint and subtle weathering and of course grouting those tiles!
and a couple smaller updates, I managed to finish priming the entire Dropfleet force for RiTides! so they'll be worked on soon too! Woo Hoo
and one last thing that shouldn't suprise any of you...... I got another dog! I borrowed a little friend to play with Daisy May to keep her entertained and burn off some energy and then I fell in love and couldn't let go back! this one was all me suprisingly since I've never liked smaller dogs for myself, but this little one has melted my heart and I find i'm very protective of her and like nothing more than having her curl up with me while I read a good white dwarf magazine or a novel. So i'll introduce to Kandy Kane the Wire Haired Dachshund the Emperor's wrath from the ankles down!
and yes, there'll be more pics of her soon.

Lol Gits Kandy does look a 'bit' like me she may be a hairy girl but we love nothing more than combing out beards while watching t.v, she needs a bit of help mind you... archer, don't stress dude, you know (or should by now!) I also have other hounds of more reasonable sizing! Kandy makes number 5 to the four legged clan, I've got Oscar my Labx about 30kg, Big Willy the rather large Samoyed (or small bear) weighing in at between 35-40kg and then the girls Izzy is about 26kg and Daisy may would only be 18-20kg but I assure you when they all want to be on the bed with you...... well, it's a squeeze
board number 3 is a Nurgle board using the models i painted for my mate cameron, still a rough idea for that one though, thinking of using expanding foam to get a rough shape and then add a mix of branches and tentacles/intestine parts to make a wet garden? perhaps marching over a swamp of corpses?
