Erm,....thanks :-) he's quite the angry fellow isn't he! I'm starting to get a feel for the aesthetic of them and the fluff, no nonsense, very dark metals almost dirty brown due to the full on frontal assault they prefer, still need something else for the base but i'm not sure? maybe a little clump of spindly grass? any ideas?

Great work on Moloch, Damo. He looks amazing. Perhaps a tuft - you could also go with a skull or two, or some discarded armour like a shoulder pauldron or a helmet.

That's the "I stepped on a Lego at 2AM" look if I'm any judge!

Minotaur looks amazing. Really shows off the Nerd knack for gritty metals.
For the base, yeah I think a spindly little tuft or two of some kind of brown grass should do the trick. It needs jsut that little bit more pop to it. Could even do a darker green/brown-green bit of clump foliage if that tickles your fancy?

Display boards are looking solid, too... Cant wait to see what you do with the Ork on in particular!

And the new furry kid looks great- Always loved Dachshunds myself- Havent seen a wire-haired one in a long long time... shes a real cutie

Thanks guys, 'Lego Raaaaaaaage' could well be a thing in 8th I'm thinking a small tuft of grass so i don't overpower the base, perhaps with a skull or two suggested by Az would also work! as for the Ork board, i'm not too sure to be honest, the main ground will be the normal earthy tones and drybrushed blending across it, and the main wall will be bolder in colours and hopefully look more tacked together when I'm done.

Glad you like Kandy too Ramos! she's a sweetheart, I only know of one other Wire haired which is her mum and I often get people saying "what a strange mix breed" she is NOT a mix (not that there's anything wrong with that, take Oscar for example) but people just don't realise they come in 3 different finishes! the long haired Dachshund are the sweet cuddly ones, the Wire haired are the funny clowns and the smooth ones are the bastards who love a good nip! as mentioned i'll be showing more of her soon, she just wants to be under my chair when i'm painting and she's just awesome.

San, the Minotaurs have been reputed to be somewhat controlled by the High Lords of Terra as their attack dogs who enjoy going toe to toe against other marines who have to be pulled back into line, take the Badab War for instance, the Space Sharks were the only other chapter as brutal!

I think a half buried skull with a tuft of grass next to it or growing out of an eye socket to show this is ancient battleground constantly being fought over.

If you can find me a Dachshund figure I'll use it for sure! i've got a Labrador one I haven't painted.....

smallish update on the boards today, the Minotaurs one I made the upper balcony from Balsa and card and found some weird flippy bendy straw thingies with little balls on one end which I cut off to use as the supports, I pinned them all and then pushed the bases into the board and glued them. Next I added the top part by lining it up (best I could) and pushing it onto the pins

I wanted it to be textured like concrete or at least rougher than the rest of the floor so I used a can of Granite Spray from Dulux Duracoat range, it's not great as a product for terrain unless you're doing larger pieces since it is formulated to replicate rough granite, it's large finish would cover anything with fine detail but for this or even basing gaming boards it'll be fine and gives me something to drybrush the other thing to get this treatment will be a fountain for the front of the board which i'm building.

I think I need to add a backing board to it now? just a basic one maybe with the texture spray and a set of doors top and bottom? ideas?

now the spray coating.

and sitting in place. I'll be adding a strip of varnished Balsa along the top of the raining to add detail.

and while I was fiddling around I started washing RiTides Flotilla which gets no love since wash pics are boring for you guys and I started Asterion's HQ group, I had a real urge to do a quartered blue and metal scheme on an army so thought I could have a go by using the Libby as my outlet for that paint job the other 2 chappies are going to be more silver on the trim to be colder, with a few gold parts for good measure!

Suprise hairy sausage shot!

Also as a random after thought, how do you think i'd go learning to play 40k from scratch with this new edition? I hear the armies have entire points values lower as a whole now? eg. Az's Minotaurs are 25 points? i'm still pretty clueless but keen to start learning now rather than later!

Looking good good, that piece of scenery is looking epic.

I've only played quality couple of games, but it seems more streamlined as a whole compared to 7th. So you'Lloyd have no problem learning it, especially as everyone else is more or less in the same boat.

Start with smaller games would be my advice. Probably between 500 pts and 1000 pts, until you've got the rules down.

Thanks Doc, luckily one of my friends is quite the gamer so he will be helpful to have a smaller game with, plus i'm guessing there's still room for slight house rule adjustments? I think i've painted enough of his nurgle models to owe me a game!

Theo you god among men! I am totally getting that model!, I'll give it the gender re assignment surgery and add some more fuzzy face fur and then we'll be good! so i've now a Labrador, a Dachshund model but no suitable scale Samoyed/husky snow dog? .... you know what this means!? we need them so i can use them all as objective markers!!!! i'll show you the Lab one soon, I found him this morning and put him on a base and converted his leg so his paw is over the edge and gave him his blanket and a ball, looks good!

Gitsplitta wrote:That granite spray is an excellent idea Nerdy. Never thought of that.

Cheers gits, I found it by accident, I was looking for a frosted glass film to give some privacy at our front entrance which has a narrow floor to ceiling window each side and came across a Dulux frosted glass spray which i went researching on the site and saw the granite spray and remembering the rough coat of old I thought it might suffice, but like i mentioned it's a lot heavier when applied so would be great for anyone doing scratch built ruins or buildings, it does need a lot of protection from overspray as this stuff goes everywhere but with some more experimenting we'll see what i can do with it!

Thanks San kandy is my little short legged shadow at the moment! you like the Libby!? that's good news for me I wanted to do a different Librarian with a jump pack so picked up the deathwatch one and tried to position him on the base so he looked slightly more dynamic or at least as if he's landed with weapons ready to hurl himself into the foe?

Nice to see you back around Elnibbus but you need to get your paint on man! miss your stuff!

I mentioned yesterday I was doing a fountain for the Mino's board, I started it using some good old plumbing parts from the hardware store so it'll be two parts until I glue it together, the main part i've just filed small channels in for water to cascade from the little pipes and i've pinned in a top cover, the whole thing will be granite coated so it will cover any imperfections nicely enough I'm going to make some little fish to swim in the resin I pour in the main fountain bed and experiment on how i can make the spouts of water look like they are pouring? also how to get the water to appear agitated where the water hits, so while it won't be perfect (whatever really is?) it will be a great little piece to learn and play with.

Now here's the part I need some help with! I wanted to add a statue on top like you'd expect and I couldn't find anything really suitable that wouldn't cost a heap of money or take ages to arrive here but I found an old Chimera I'd bought just because it was cheap a while back and I chopped him apart a bit in the vain hope of greenstuffing him slightly to become more Bull like and representing the Minotaurs my preference of aesthetics says I need the whole animal on his rear legs, but it is a bit overpowering and I think too large for it's purpose so I am proposing to cut him in half and his pose lends itself well to appear to be gripping the base with his forefeet pulling himself from the fountain? the chimera model will be getting the dremel treatment as well to smooth him out and add some shape and then i'll use GS to add more snout and horns and whatnot before he gets granited with the rest!

start of the fountain, little pipes!

the whole model on top.

and just half of him, keep in mind he's not positioned how he would be since he's kinda balanced there

Looks like a lot of work. The fountain is looking good, will look great once you have it painted. The water effects, I have had some success with evostik clear silicone.

Now how quick do you need a minator mini? I could send you something, but takes a while to get to you.

Hey Cam, thanks for the offer mate! :-) but I'm really trying to get them done or at least organised enough soonish as i'm off to Vegas for my wedding right around the comp time! i'll have a crack at the half a minotaur since it's not going to be really detailed just needs to give the impression really. but as usual i'd still like the feedback and ideas to be flowing, I'm feeling pretty calm doing the terrain stuff at the moment and am getting some more ideas, which is good because now i have my Minotaurs army primed and just a few other projects for other friends I can start looking at doing some gaming board terrain and playing around with the ultra clear resin again ;-0

Well in that case, the head needs to be bulkier, horns obviously and you are not far away. I personally go with patina bronze for the figure.

For water coming out of the pipes, I've seen people run a piece of fishing line and then put the water effects on top of it. Never tried myself though.

Gentlemen, thank you for again keeping me buoyed to do more, Cam, i'm waiting for my friend to bring me back my little rotary tool so i can smooth and shave and shape the Chimer-ataur then i'll GS the snout and hooves and add some horns, which leads me to say if it looks good enough I might bronze and patina it as per Mr Whaley, if it looks crappy i'll just Granite it

Thanks Yorky, i'm glad things are all good too! Vegas will be wonderful but you know having time off for a wedding and honeymoon is going to mean i'll be missing out on hobby time it's going to be the hardest part! and is there anything modeling I can't do? yep, plenty! certain colours and techniques stump me and I still can't learn the damn rules to the actual game! but i'm always willing to have a crack at it, hence the water resin stuff i'm playing with, I get some cool ideas and just want to see them come to life, i've been watching plenty of tutorials and have decided to take bits of info from a few and turn them into my own style since they all vary from how people do running water, waterfalls, clear ponds, ripples, rapids etc. and i look at it and think I can just tweak it a bit it'll look better (hopefully).

So back to the fountain, I cut the chimera in half and test fitted how he'd look and i'm happy with that, if I feel the need I'll add some rubble to the top so it looks like he's been sculpted to be bursting from the fountain

and his left over legs will be turned into a plant....... yes, strange i know but i'm reading the old WD with the Catachan army in it and they had these really dodgy (by today's standards) guides to making scratch built death world plants like the man-eater and brain leaf!

and a little bit more on the Chaplain in Terminator armour and the Libby, just strengthening the colours and working on the black, hard to tell but the black is nearly done, another highlight and wash should do it since he's got so much extra details in the bling department to draw your eye, and the Libby i've started the metal and weathering and added a sepia tone, still loads to do but I felt I could update even if it was subtle!

Oh ..... space planes.
