That's kind of where i'm putting my expectations too. I'll buy it without reservation at 100, for 150 i'll have to see the pan-o units, but i'm probably still too hooked to back out.

$125 it is then!

I'm getting more and more excited for ICESTORM - and not just for the miniatures for myself.

Finally having a 'true' starter box set will hopefully get INFINITY a lot more exposure and buy in.

It is WAY to hard to find a game of INFINITY around where I live, and anything that helps alleviate that and grow the game?

Hell ya!

I find the cost of the models is one of the biggest things that makes me reluctant to jump into infinity. They are great models but at £10+ a pop they are pricey.

Gotta agree with Alph.

The thing about the cost... it really depends on what you're going to do with them. If you want something really nice to paint, they're probably worth the cost, and if you want to play the game itself.. you only need around 10 minis for a full sized game, maybe a pool of 15 to have lots of variance between games. The terrain can be costly, but not if you follow along with some of the terrain on the cheap threads you can find here and on the infinity forums. It's less of an investment than a 40k army by a long walk, but still liable to cost you at least a hundred bucks, it's true. The boxed sets have a fair bit of value in them as well, as long as you're interested in everything they contain.

There are very few single model blisters over £10... Yeah they're quite pricey I guess but you need like max 10 for an army usually and they are fantastic sculpts.

Yeah they are certainly fantastic sculpts. Just a bit crazy at times when I can get 6+ fantastic Samurai for the price of a single infinity model.

Still I like the idea of the game and have a mate who wants to get rid of some of his adriana stuff so ill probably give it a go picking some up from him. Already have Deadzone too and some Samurai buildings so I could probably make a start on a low tech Samurai board as well as using deadzone terrain for one.

I'd be curious to see what all is coming in the box besides the figures. The original teaser image gave the impression that there would be some kind of terrain and a possible mat. I'd really like to see all of that. Plus I'd be curious to see how many dice and counters come in the box as well.

A gaming mat is in the box. A starter book-- we just saw the fantastic cover-- that is more than just quickstarter rules. Four d20s. At least one template. According to the picture...

Trans: Inside O:I comes all that is needed to be able to begin to play Infinity.

Which seems to indicate some sort of terrain too. Probably cardstock, like Topo Solitarios Ikubes.

At the very latest we will learn everything on the 27th, when some lucky soul at the Inter-planetary event in Vigo wins the first copy. I guarantee that the winner will get no peace until he posts images of everything.

Most Infinity models are around £8.

I'd been playing Infinity for 8 months before I had spent more than the just the cost of the 40K rules. My Pano minis now have cost me somewhere around £90. That allows me several different lists that play very differently, and represents about 18 months of army building. As an ongoing cost, Infinity is, in my experience, about the bottom of the scale. Deadzone has cost me more.

So, did anyone notice that the Nikoul Minelayer model doesn't have the Minelayer skill?

It only has Sapper, which does not allow deployment of mines, only placement after game start with an action.

Omission, or poor choice of profile title?

When they want to give a profile a certain skill or peice of equipment but not to the unit as a whole, it is in brackets next to the unit name. Hence why the second profile says (Minelayer). That means he has the skill, to go with the Antipersonnel mines in his weapon selection.

The other profile doesn't have mines at all, so making the unit as a whole pay for the Minelayer skill doesn't make sense, so the skill isn't in the general skills section.

I can buy that. But the graphic doesn't have the [minelayer] in brackets or anything. It's just added to the name. It looks like a title, and not a skill descriptor.

Probably an oversight with the missing brackets. There are no existing profile with an unenclosed "Minelayer". The Clipsos Minelayer has an unbracketed "Minelayer" and clearly has the Minelayer skill unless CB added an identical profile to the plain jane Clipsos that costs +1 pt and +0.5 SWC just for grins.

It would also be a pretty stupid precedent to start calling models with mines but without the minelayer skill "minelayer" while still calling models with the minelayer skill "(minelayer)".

This. Models with mines without the Minelayer skill have nothing after the unit name. Models with Mines with the Minelayer skill in a unit that doesn't have it as standard have Minelayer after the unit name in brackets. There are no units that have Minelayer without the brackets.

So the logical assumption is CB forgot to put the brackets on.

Any idea what terrain is going to be in the box?

99% certain there is a fold-up paper mat (more or less confirmed by the recent picture of Bostria and Warren at BoW that seemed to show the mat in the corner)

75% certain there are at least two medium-sized terrain pieces in the box.. most likely in the form of cardboard fold-up shipping containers or similar (we have seen the two silhouettes but they could also just be the silhouettes for the two starter boxes that are included in O:I. If CB are super smart, the boxes could serve both purposes)

25% certain there will be some smaller 'scatter' terrain in the box. While it could be something cast in resin, it is more likely to be a sheet of punch-out and fold cardboard crates (no proof of this at all, but based on the apparent size of the mat and the two pieces of medium sized 'terrain' that would totally block LoF.. it makes sense for there to be a few pieces of waist high obstacles that would provide partial cover)

You can see a portion of the mat in the lower right corner. Also on the Icestorm box, the sticker showing the silhouette or image of the LE model that comes with pre-orders.

Just let me know when I can pre-order from my usual sources.

Looking at the Icestorm box compared to the normal sized boxes, I wonder how tightly it is packed?

Really looking forward to this! If there is one criticism that could be levelled at Infinity, it's that for players who are coming into it completely fresh, it can be a little overwhelming knowing where to start beyond 'download the rulebook'. A starter set, with all of the terrain, miniatures and rules you need to play I think will help the game (and the community) out a lot.

Just read an interesting post on the Datasphere from Bostria - Apparently Penthesilea was the best selling Infinity blister ever. Have to say I am not at all surprised!

That in part motivated the new special edition release, as well as the fact that they loved the design of the new Kum bike.

I don't think the fact they designed the bootleg in such a way that Haqqislam players could paint her to look like she's in normal riding leathers and have her fit in with the other Kum was a mistake, either.

I tried to get a closer look at that BOW pic using my tablet. That is indeed a paper mat. I wish they'd gone with a rubber one like Mantic. That would've been a much better idea.

And looking at the LE figure sticker, it looks like the figure is the Sec-Lock Contingencies rep. Or at least, the figure looks similar to the silhouette. It appears to be a female, possibly dressed similar to Miranda Ashcroft, carrying a briefcase.

I'd bet that's the briefcase gun we got teased with earlier. As mentioned elsewhere, the hand holding the briefcase gun wasn't an Aleph hand, wrong colour.

No, a lot of 40mm things are going up. Well, at least all(?) the TAG and some other stuff.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Bulleteer drones for example as well. I rebased mine and am pretty happy, they look good and fine on the big ones.

My Muledrones on the other hand are supposed to go to the big ones as well and I am hesitant to do that as they have a smaller diameter.

Excellent stuff coming out as always. I hope there will some nice buildings in the starter. I like the old Penny better but good for those who like the new one, a neat model indeed. And compared to other bootlegs, a very usable mini which I like, too.

I happily put my Kameels on 55s so I didn't have to deal with those ridiculous sculpted on base extenders. A quick snip of the clippers and they're happily on bases they fit on.

Yeah, I think mine are fine based as-is. They had their chance to supply bigger bases when I first bought the things. Not gonna be changing it because someone had a change of heart.

Is there an 'official' list somewhere of what miniatures should be on 55mm bases now?

And...anyone know where we can get a bunch of 55mm bases?

There was a list somewhere on the official forums but since they are in "safe mode" and you can't search...I can't find it.

Basically though: If it's a TAG and not a Gecko or Maghriba Guard, it's on 55mm.

The Warstore has 'em.

There was a long conversation on the new bases a few months ago which was somewhat helpful. NuclearMessiah found an interesting workaround through Customeeple, which are basically base inserts you can drop you existing smaller bases into and it'll boost them to the larger game size.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/589330.page

I may look into them, but I'm really not happy about having to break my careful basing jobs. So I won't.
