I'm fine with melee being in Infinity, but like others, wasn't happy with the implementation. The nature of the game means that it can be difficult to get into melee save for special characters and army builds.

We did have some great moments with melee while trying out the game though. I was proxying a Haqqislam TAG, while my opponent was using one of the Combined Army powered armor plasma rifle guys.

The new antipodes are great models. I still don't like the anime furry aspect of them, but these new models are a better mix of man-beast than they've had before.

This is something I don't want to see changed. Getting into CC should be difficult. You're bearing down on someone with an automatic weapon. They're going to shoot you given half a chance. To get into CC you should be trying to flank them to surprise them, relying on gadgets like TO camo or Impersonation so they don't see you, or simply be so tough that a reactionary shot doesn't bother you. This is exactly how it should be.

It's the CC mechanics themselves that need a going over.

I agree with Loki, getting close enough is hard now, but it's probably as hard as it should be. The problem is that once your are there, it should be more "definitive". Like, most of the times one of the minis should end unconscious, and not just with a scratch in their armour. I can understand if making damage to a TAG is difficult, but for human sized organic targets, if the miniatures are as skilled as they are supposed to be, and have that ugly weaponry... they really should be able to do a lot of damage.

I was actually agreeing with you. Getting into CC is appropriately difficult.

But, as you say, when it happens, those CC focused troops should get a more definitive advantage, or the fight itself needs to feel a bit more dramatic.

I agree with this. The amount of times my Ninja or Kitsune got into close combat, then didn't really do a lot and got hit back and killed in return - being rather fragile. I just gave up with CC and use their shooting attacks now.

Having only (basically) B1 really hurts in CC.

I think the only complaint I would have in regards to the Antipode Assault Pack is that every model is standing on a rock...it makes basing them on anything but Ariadna style "woodlands/rolling hills" bases look funky.

I think you could get it to look like 'urban ruins' with only a little bit of effort though - not too shabby!

Kinda agree. I really love the dynamic posing, but sometimes it messes with my desire to go tech-basey, or, in the instance of Bran DeCastro, Is just odd and doesn't fit in my urban ruins at all.

I'm gone for a couple days and everyone starts talking about me.

Its cool guys, I'm fine! I've just been cleaning!

...and the Antipodes are 100% on my want list. Those are going to be great to paint up. Such an improvement over the old ones.

Level of Martial Arts = number of dice thrown in CC

So many games, so little time.

So many models, even less time.

I' m kind of sad I picked up the originals now - they'll never see the light of day!

One could use both old and new antipodes. Say one set is male, the other female. Basic sexual dimorphism. Or even differing sub-species.

 Barzam wrote:
I actually kind of like the old Antipodes. I'm probably in the minority there. Nothing says they can't be a different Antipode breed. Maybe they're from a warmer climate?

Aren't Antipodes supposed to be intelligent? Don't they have their own language? Are the ones working with the Russians enslaved by the Russians? Or are they working with them willingly?

I think the antipodes were inspired by the aliens from the book, A fire Upon The Deep and the description in the book, IIRC, is a lot like what the original antipodes minis looked like. And those aliens, 'Tines', had the collective intelligence like antipodes. It is worth a read if nothing else.

About the CC, we will know soon. I cannot imagine that the CC rules are not in the Introductory rulebook. And Inter-Planetary is less than 2 weeks away. I expect by the 28th quite a bit of the contents of the Icestorm book will be out. There is a set of quick starter rules promised for the Spanish Debut of Ravage Magazine, which is out when, last week of July/first week of August?

That gun is pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind at all if CB wanted to start making some 1/1 scale props.

All I know is that I have an entire 40K army to sell to fund my Infinity habit. The new starter box looks amazing and I know I'll be pre ordering it. Since I play Ariadna, I'll be picking up some new antipodes as well.

I'm not quite sure about where I sit on making CC more powerful. On the one hand, I agree that it could perhaps do with a buff, but on the other the strength of what could be termed a 'CC specialist' isn't so much that it has powerful CC ability, but that it can get into an advantageous position to use its weaponry. Good example of this would the Onobiwan or Ninjas - quite often when using those you just use the gun and the chances are you can get a shot at close range with no cover for the enemy unit.

Contrast with something like a Nomad Pupnik, who can only be used for CC and costs a single point, and I think you have a more true reflection of the efficacy of CC in the game.

I normally very rarely risk CC unless it's a kind of 'movie moment' where it looks like I'm winning the game or else feeling like I want to take a risk - the Onobiwan appears behind two infantry; he shoots the first, then draws his sword and leaps into combat with the other. Even though statistically it might not be the most sensible thing to do, if you pull it off, it would be immensely cool because of the kind of image it creates, and also the fact that you took a risk..

Think you could probably put some urban scatter around the moulded rock part and it would look OK.

Those are some quite chunky looking legs so if you wanted to go further, and separate the legs from the rock to place on a different platform, you could probably do so without much risk.

The foot-on-a-rock thing is becoming too much of a standard, a little variety wouldn't hurt

Alternatively, if you wanted to pose a model dynamically...you could do something other than "legs on a rock".

I didn't see anything wrong with the shirt you were wearing in that picture, but I'm now looking forward to the next picture, and the next shirt!

Very cool Alpharius, was that one just a case of getting the icon and taking it to a t-shirt printers?

Pretty cool pic on Angel's FB blog

Wouldn't it be cool if they introduced a rule where you could hack that controllers device, so the wolves turn on her..

I really like the new Antipodes! Well done CB! I am thinking about picking up the original 2006 one, as the controller looks like it would make a good stand in for the line kazaks with the LGL.

I prefer the old ones. Alien virus showing disturbing results when interacted with human physiology, now they're just fantasy werewolves. They do look fine from technical standpoint, they simply look generic.

They aren't werewolves though, they're not humans that have been infected. These are the actual Antipodes who infect people by biting them.

The beasts of War Weekender show had the new mirco arts studio infinity gaming mat on , which looks great, and some first opinions about O:I as well.

I may be reading too much into it, but they said the micro arts mat arrived a couple of weeks ago, when they started filming the I:O stuff, and I.m thinking that what is in the box is based upon that product perhaps, it will obviously be smaller, like the Deadzone one, but made by MA for the box?

They also referred specifically to 'Terrain' being in the box, which to me sounds a bit more than simply 'scenery' that the box content list suggests.

Like ImAGeek points out, you're thinking of the Dogfaces/Dog Soldiers.
