Okay, after a long day, I can finally post in here.
First, I love the sculpts. I need that Mobile Brigada. I'm a little torn about whether or not I should preorder (some places already have them up) or if I should just hold off until the new starters show up. Money is tight right now, but I really like the exclusive figures. If I can get someone to split it with me, I'll probably go for this.
I'm not seeing this drastic shift in art direction people are complaining about. The anime aesthetic is still there, it's just been more refined through the digital sculpting. I'm not sure what this move is that you're all referring to. Is it the fact that a lot of the designs are getting bulkier and moving away from the scrawny, more form fitting armor designs they used to have? I think some of you are forgetting that anime isn't some big homogenous thing that has a universal look to it. Ever see Berserk? It's extremely western influenced with a very non-traditional look. I'd liken Infinity's move from more cartoony designs to more realistic ones as being similar to how anime has moved away from the traditional Tezuka look towards more realistic stuff like Monster or Berserk. It's not much different than that.
Also, the talk of using 2D maps in lieu of traditional 3D terrain is a pretty good idea. I don't know why it never occurred to me before. There's some really nice ones out there and that guy that did a lot of the Star Wars ones especially has some good ones. If you're looking for a setting to use 0-G terrain, some of his maps are great for that.

Apparently at some point they will release PanO and Nomad starters with most of the minis from O:I. The PanO Father knight and the Nomad Reverend Healer are exclusive to this starter. Very cool!

Funny thing. In 31:41 when they are showing painted Grenzer, the back of his cloak is really roughly painted (highlights on the blacks). I wonder if that's a different mini or they heavily used photoshop to make every model look nice and smooth.
That would be disappointing. I want to see beautifully painted miniatures not photoshoped ones. I hope we won't see miniatures with no wrinkles, thinner and with bigger boobs...

And so, retailer pre-orders have begun in the UK at least.
Wayland Games have just put Operation Icestorm up, £60 (RRP £75), which includes the Corporate Security girl.
However, no free shipping offers with this. I put into cart and they are doing a courier shipping option for £6.35, which isn't too bad.
http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/infinity/operation-icestorm/operation-icestorm/prod_28953.html
Have this down as expected to ship August 31st.

I've got old Ghulam sitting here, next to new Ghulam, and they just look... awful. I've got the old AP rifle Jannisary as well, which I like because of the pose. But the exaggerated features, the enormous rifles, and sub par sculpts... They're just worse. Their 'character' at best rose-tinted-glasses syndrome.

I have the old Alguaciles here and next to these new ones they're pretty laughable. And I'm really not getting how someone can prefer the old ORC... I get it's personal preference but the new one is almost identical except...cleaner? Just better, more modern. The old ORC was one of the first models I saw from infinity and was part of the reason I didn't jump in for a while.

If your mind doesn't get it, it doesn't and likely it won't. I wouldn't waste too much time solving a puzzle of what some guy on the internet is thinking. I've likely spend far too much time discussing the miniaturisation and HI/REM concepts (fictional or not) behind PanO, my finger prints must be all over PanO section in the art book. Haqq makes it a bad example, most of their technology and privileges (knowledge among others) are explained with magical sand and buying third generation tech on the market. Which they usually enchant with refined magical sand. So, if you're looking for radical changes I wouldn't expect them. Only Kum bikers are silly, going without protection on a open vehicle under those conditions? I wonder how long can you last before the dehydration and the sun does its tool. The overall reaction towards new releases is positive. Yay for CB? I honestly wouldn't dwell more than that.

i'm not a huge fan of manga either but the genre difference (male/female) makes all this laughable;
I miss the order sergent perfection era
*snort* It always amuses me when people think the sexy aesthetic is new to Infinity. In fact, I addressed that " Infinity models are supposed to be sexy" in this very thread.
Thing is, the reason you may not remember me saying that is... it was three years ago. (2011/06/27) It's actually from before you (Sangarn) registered your account.
I don't think the sexy aesthetic is new to infinity, and for me it's an important part because of the manga feeling of Infinity.
I read your post and i agreed with all you say
the thing is: the ninja exemple you take about ? It's over.
for the hypothetic next release of female ninja will be half naked with an "oops" pose and male ninja will have two time bigger shoulder
Just to quote something you say, because you say it better than me (damn english) and it's exactly what i'm talking about:
Something else to consider: as Infinity is a more true-scale game, they run the risk, when they produce an armored or uniformed figure, that you won't be able to distinguish between men and woman; it is for this reason that the "sexiness", or perhaps better, femininity, needs to be injected. When man and woman are both athletic and proportioned like normal humans, little things like hair and posture become very important,
R.I.P. true scale
But the good new is that CB can't keep changing proportions of guns art directions etc .. so maybe they will just reduce the shoulder size and make some "soldier" female and all will be fine :p
I must say that I love the reverend healer so all my hope is not gone for female sculpt that i could work on.

I don't see how their fluff makes them the exception to the rule of new models looking better to old models. They've also undergone radical design changes despite the fluff - the new Ghulam look completely different to the old Ghulam. Not the compete removal of their old armoured vest with hairdryer on the back to a more modern set of military fatigues and a backpack. Note the complete redesign of the Jannisary - the same tech level, but just a far better sculpt.

I don't think those of us who don't like the new sculpts claim they are inferior, from technical standpoint (I don't recall I did, with exception of Akal who has very odd backpack compared to Crusader, there's no way they couldn't put more effort into it). The background is rather hard sci-fi and I loved how well they were integrating it. You have occasional oddball stuff but overall it was kept rather realistic and even oddball stuff could be executed differently (old versus new antipodes). Interestingly enough I remember the interview where Corvus stated the difficulties they had with PanO. Just how do they show the miniaturisation and superior hi-tech. The new design doesn't reflect it (it does reflect standardisation but basing the technological level I'd say we're actually technologically inferior to Nomads and even Haqq). I think some of the bulkier designs would now be accepted ("cooler" Hexa would be the first to point my finger on), if they went over them one more time. Maybe they will. If you do not understand my appreciation for their background, prioritising functionality, consistency over the rule of cool. Than that's that from my side.

Within the UK, only place I have found so far for pre-orders is Wayland Games.
I've tried Firestorm, Arcane Miniatures, Dark Sphere.
I did think that pre-order wasn't meant to start until 29th, but Wayland may have it as they seem to have a close relationship with CB ( CB used their Tabletop Nation store as a launch venue for Campaign Paradiso).
Or, they may have jumped the gun of course!

They're a massive retailer (I think possibly the biggest in the UK?)
There will always be some problems when you are dealing with so many customers.
But, I've ordered a fair bit from them before, and from my experience with this kind of release I think you should be pretty safe.

This very much depends on what you want.
If you just want the box, wayland, and most likely dark sphere on the 29th, along with wargaming trader if he is getting any, (he posts in here so he will be able to say) and troll trader will all get it to you with a bit of a discount.
If you want one of the other limited minis too, the Bolt or the penthasilia, then its corvus bellis own store and accept the postage costs.
