I haven't read much about him, but I think both miniatures (the knight and the healer), since they are limited to the O:I box (unlike the starters), are just characters. I don't really know, but my guess is that they are just characters, a bit like the Dire Foes. Maybe we could see more miniatures of their units in the future, but given the nature of the product, I think it's just a one time thing.

That was debunked a while ago. They're not characters and are nothing like Dire Foes, that's why they don't have names. IIRC, they're new units in 3rd edition, but these particular sculpts are limited to the Icestorm box.

The Father Knight is interesting - his size suggests CB are channeling a bit of Tarik. Maybe a PanO super soldier attempt?

The bio stuff isn't really Pan-O's thing. Give him some armour, tech and a sword is more MO's M.O. Personally I'd like to see him with some sort of leadership-based skills (I'm assuming he's a higher rank than the other knights).

I know it's not their thing, but his height is definitely giving off that vibe. Hels a goot 1/4 taller than any other knight. Armour alone wouldn't do that short of being a mini TAG type suit.

I'm tempted to preorder two of the starter sets. I'm still swithering over the price and some of the sculpts however.

This isn't a game where you are going to be running lots of models. You can literally add 2-3 models to what you get for each force and you've got a 300pt (the games 'standard' size) list. It's also not a game where, outside of line infantry (like the Alguaciles and Fusiliers) you'll be running repeats of many units. And even among those, 3 is plenty.

One box really is perfectly good.

Because I want two? One to enjoy painting and one to do demo games with if necessary, if I need to justify it I suppose. I'm aware of the size of Infinity forces, although I haven't bought anything for it since my partner bought me the initial Tohaa releases.

No one said you needed to justify it, I think he was just curious, as I was when I saw your post.

I think limiting the release to a set number of copies kind of defeats the purpose. I don't know how big the market is and how quickly you can move 5000 units of anything, but I do get the impression that you need to be quick to not miss out.

How is this going to help snag new players? I suppose you might get some people that are on the fence and already looking into Infinity. I'm sure it would be beneficial if stores could have this in stock and showcase it on the shelves. The few stores I know that support Infinity barely keep any stock. The extreme range makes it difficult. The support is basically a community service to the handful of fans that already exist. The shelf space is practically non-existant , and all you'll find there is a few of the obsolete line troopers. The big stores don't even support Infinity at all. I think being able to have a self-contained game in a boardgame format would help, at least as a trial. It it works, start stocking boxes, then move on to blisters in time.

CB only releasing 5000 copies. Its another for this starter set. I hope they will be doing futher print runs as this will not count as a starter set.

Your post won't "disappear" unless it is so overtly offensive that it cannot simply be edited to be acceptable.

Honestly though, I expected this. The contents can all be broken down into what will likely be separately purchasable items(Nomad and PanOceania starter boxes, the terrain sets, the two characters and the CSU). It is not unlike the recent "Stormclaw" box from GW.

My posts are not offensive, they get removed as I don't praise CB. This is a very silly move from CB, having a starter box is something all games systems should have, it should be a cheap way of getting potential players a foothold into the game (I think thecstarter set is to expensive as is). I don't follow 40k so I don't know/care what a stormclaw box is.

No-one here has a problem with criticism overtyrant, as long as it's constructive. I'm guessing if you had posts removed it was probably because it had been deemed to be personally directed in some form or another.

If they are expecting stock levels to last through the first half of 2015, then presumably the 5000 number isn't an issue?

This isn't going to be a case of someone trying to get one the week after Gencon and then them having sold out..

We still don't know when the full rulebook will be published (just before January). I wouldn't expect the rules to be published before the book.

Considering the crapstorm that got stirred up on their official forums when there were people suggesting that Icestorm could be all Tunguska for Nomads and all Svalarheima for PanOceania?

I don't think it would be happening. Too many "veteran" players are of the opinion that introducing Sectorials into the starter set increases the learning curve dramatically.

Then the "starter set" for Infinity would be the terrain, templates, quick-start rules, and a voucher covering any two faction starter sets.
This is less of a "starter set" in the traditional sense and more akin to the recent "Stormclaw" release from GW. You can use it to start the game if you want those two factions. You are (purportedly) given a series of missions in Icestorm that are very similar to Stormclaw, where you have units from the starter pulled out in the early games to avoid you having to learn those mechanics early on etc.

Anyways, assuming that 5000 copies is going to be sold out quickly is a bit silly. There were 5000 copies of the limited edition starter set for "The Hobbit" and several GW shops still have the thing sitting on their shelves.

I'm more concerned about whatever stock they port along to gencon running out.. but we'll see. And soon at that.

Dunno why but 5000 just doesn't sound like many. Always been crap with number estimates though.
