Anyone else been looking into this? I am trying to find some more info on it, but supposedly somebody jailbroke their PS3 through their iPhone to install their own apps. Sony is pissed because the guy reverse engineered their tech and then an "Anonymous?" person hacked the entire Sony Network in retaliation. I will post some additional info as I find it.

So this is why I couldn't play Black ops, God Damn Hacker!

PSN was also down for maintenance as it was upgrading so ps3 can play with steam now.

So its not just me having PSN network problems? Does anyone know how long this will last?

Ha! Sony deserved that for dropping linux support from ps3. I hope hackers do this again at mw3 lauchday.

This hurts gamers more than it hurts Sony. Those losing out are the people who already own PS3s. Why should the gamers be the victims?

Its not like PSN is Xbox live, they don't get any money for it unless you specifically download things, and that's optional. So Sony is loosing barely any money to this pathetic attack by people who have no life and nothing better to do than to hack PSN. Why? because they are frustrated little idiots who's lives are worthless.

I mean, come on, its not like Sony is a big bad organisation slowly taking over the world through the use of its tyrannical network.

A) In what way are console owners not gamers?

A bit of a nightmare for PS3 users, its news even on the BBC website now, its been going on so long.

I do have a serious wonder though, how has this now happened to PSN, what three times? and yet LIVE as far as I am aware not been taken down so far. What is Sony doing.

Or is it just a side effect of the paid/not paid service, LIVE has much more to loose if it was to be hacked due to having to compensate Gold lvl users?

I can happily say I own a PS3, and this has happened once before, but the network was only down for like... 3 hours or something. There was supposed to be an update coming out near the end of this month, due to SOCOM 4 coming out, but I've been having the problem since Thursday. Either way, it totally sucks that we PS3 owners, gamers, whatever you want to call us, got screwed over on the Easter weekend... Bet the guys at Microsoft are pissing themselves laughing...

Yeah, if some hacker decided to do this in retaliation over SONY taking away an ability or for suing a hacker who hacked the PS3 then its totally okay. Its justified to make sure that I can't play games online.

Some kid who had been locker stuffed one too many times decided to grow a pair online and make himself look "cool" by messing sony up ( Although I feel a large team was responsible ).

Sony should use this opportunity to say "Sorry everyone, here is a free month of PS Plus for you all!". By doing this they would appease those who pay for the service and encourage those who might have not to try out all that it can offer and get them hooked into it, generating lost revenue (The psn service is free however people buy things online through psn daily such as games/dlc/movies and that is money they are not seeing right now).

I think he was being sarcastic.

And Sony did take away an ability, we used to be able to install Linux on PS3 consoles, but because it was the only way for them to get viruses, it was removed.

Sony said they were hacked, but the shut down is them.

They're enhancing the security, apparently, to prevent further brakes in the system.

Another reason why I get annoyed at being a PS3 owner. I really want to like to system, but its hard some days. Anyone else feel like your being punished for choosing PS3?

With bonus content for games like Red Dead Redemption, Mortal Kombat, Medal of Honor, and other games I can't really say that I feel like I'm being punished. Its just that hackers like to go after SONY because they try to get rid of hackers by shutting down their systems or suing them. Compared to xbox's amazing level of hackers and stupidity, my friend plays Black Ops on the 360 and he had eight or so challenges ready to be completed one after the other. He completed them all and went up two levels(being level 40+) and he got his account on Black Ops reset to level 1 and banned for a week. He has yet to pick it back up and sticks with Battlefield Bad Company now.

Anonymous is just a group of angry people who feel entitled to getting whatever they want for free because they have 1337 skills at being haxorz. I just wonder if anyone else is almost willing enough to give money for SONY to form an elite team of ex-spec ops guys to deal with hackers.

We are doing something, we're complaining on Dakkadakka.

I rewarded my son with a PSN gift card this week for being a good kid and there was another in his Easter basket (in the hopes the network would come back up by Sunday) and he's been chomping at the bit for them to bring it back up.

Hits his mom and dad too - no Netflicks for us old folks!!!
