Well I couldn't wait for the new episodes of attack on titan. So I started reading the books. The anime follows the story very well, with very little deviations.

I can't wait for next week

Meh, I guess people aren't into the same tastes I am when it comes to Gargantia. I see it as a beautiful world that has been developed and an unusual circumstance has been created. They are using that and running with it and don't need ridiculous action to back it up. They just need to continue with their solid character development and story design to keep me interested.

Checking out Black Lagoon.

Its pretty fun. It has a bit of a Tarantino vibe, which is nice.

Also, behold the glory of Engrish!

I actually don't think Gargantia is at all intended to be an action series. Sure there's gonna be action but from what the lead producer and director have said the press the series is meant to be more of a slice of life/coming of age story focused much more on the characters personal development and interactions. In that sense, Chamber being so powerful isn't much of a weakness.

It's clearly not intended as an action series, you are correct.

However, there are still too few things happening per episode and when they DO have action sequences, chamber's excessive power robs them of tension.

Actually, I find it different because they make it incredibly clear that this is a ridiculously powerful instrument of war in a setting incapable of even coming close to matching it. This means that instead of the traditional super-mecha animus with this setup, it foregoes that "I'm gonna solve all the worlds problems with brute force" and it turns into "How can I use this WMD equlivilant in this world for peaceful operatons?"

Spoiler:
Then the sea creature shows up, not sure if it is just a whalesquid or if it actually is a spacebug but either way the ingrained, heavily trained lightswitch effect that Ledo had as soon as the alarm went off was impressive, but to be expected. Lets just see what it actually was next episode

The manga rather abruptly cut off following Roberta's Blood Trail and was on a 2 year hiatus that ended with a new one in March,

Ok, I am not one of the biggest fans of anime, so I once again, searching with thick criteria, have discovered a few aseries I found interesting.

Just finished Psycho Pass, and the ending wasn't as bad as I was threatened. Also been watching Shingeki (finding it a tad dull for now) and so far probably one of the best I've watched now is Fate/Zero, which I was told is a prequel to some other series of nearly the same name. (I'm into episode 8 now, 9 is of course next.)

Any recommendations of non-mecha? I like a good plot and some decent action. That is why I liked Mirai Nikki and JJBA a lot.

Fate/stay night is the series your looking for. Its really a prequel, but since I finished fate/zero a while ago, fate/stay night didn't seem nearly as good, despite all the fandom yelling how good it is. The picture quality seems much worse in fate/stay night and the plot, up to the 5th episode seems rather dry in comparison. I hope it picks up since it is highly rated.

If your looking for no mecha stuff but decent action, the above mentioned black lagoon is got a bit of both. Tiger & bunny is a relatively new series that looks like it will become a classic. Another goodie is Toaru Majutsu no Index and its related spinoffs and sequels. It has some good characters but also slight, but not prevalent harem themes.

Just a few suggestions. If none of these is your flavor, pop back in and ask again.

I found Fate/Stay Night to be a rather boring series. Fate/Zero is where its at!

You don't learn Dutch's past IIRC.

Thanks, though I'll probably finish up Fate/Zero first, then maybe look at Fate/Stay a bit just to see what it's like. I'm also quite interested in the old shows from the 90's.

Yeh, in the Manga they explain Revy's. Dutch, not so much. Supposedly he was in Vietnam and decided not to go back to the US. That's about it.

Anyone of you watched Shingeki episode 7 yet? (AKA Invasion of the Pepsodent Giants)

I am astonished. Maybe the next episode could FINALLY deliver entertainment for us? Seeing it's a 22 episode show and gak starts going down towards halfway through, I'm quite disappointed.

Yeah. The series is quickly entering the realm of missed opportunity. Of the 7 episodes, 4 are back story (and while I was happy they were kind of getting it all out of the way at first, now it feels like they let it bog the series down). Seven episodes in and we're finally getting into the meat of the story and we still don't get to the part that actually matters for kicking the series off.

On the bright side, Valvrave is doing okay. As Code Geass meets Gundam Seed, I like it XD

Yeah, for a series that is hyped up a lot to have action, this one is kind of letting me down a bit. :(

New episode of Attack on Titan is out. I feel like the plot moves slower and slower each episode. But this one at least had something peculiar in it

Spoiler:
wtf was up with that titan killing other ones?

Same thought here. We haven't really been given enough reason to get attached to him for them to "Kamina" him already. Also, this series is teaching me every time someone acts all psyched up and ready to kick arse, they're about to get theirs handed to them. The series is building up a lot of resentment with me that I'm at the point where I have to make myself keep watching the new episodes, and if it wasn't for the fact I watch them at work and its a great way to pass the time, I probably wouldn't even do that.

I was gonna consider showing attack on titan for a little horror anime series I am hosting over the summer, but I don't think it's a very good fit for that. Any suggestions on here for really good horror anime series? The more twisted and dramatic the better, psychological thrillers are a plusplus. Here's a list of what i have got so far

Perfect Blue
Paranoia Agent
Kurozuka
School Days
Mushishi

I havn't seen all these so I'm open to suggestions

*edit things I am not including are

Psycho Pass bc we are watching that as a club already
Hirigashi When they cry bc everyone has already seen it
Mirai Nikki bc I heard the anime version is bad
