As an anime watcher from... a while back... any good Giant Robot style anime been released lately?

Gurren Lagann. Made by the same studio who made Evangelion, although less grimdark than Evangelion, it is a nice action packed series. It is a tad-bit overrated but I liked it.

No heresy. The dub for Hellsing Ultimate is brilliant. It also makes more sense from a canonical point of view, since its mainly set in England.

Ah, well Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) isn't nearly as boring so far as Fate/Stay Night. That show is like Fate/Zero, but three times as boring, follows some "harem" principle of a main character surrounded by a million girls and has the pretty common anime "humor".

There are two airing atm. They are Valvrave the liberator and Majestic Prince. The first is more like a mix between gundum and code geass and the second is more like gundum and um...It even looks like gundum. Its not gundum though, I think...

Majestic Prince has the same head animator that worked on Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and that guy is known for a rather glaring case of 'Same Face." His other mech anime Fafnir has the same issue with many characters baring striking similarity to Seed characters.

My only issue with Prince so far is that we have not one, but two giant boobed characters... Though I think that annoys me more than most, and I've otherwise been enjoying the series. Valvrave is pretty interesting so far as well.

Afro Samurai.

I've re-watched it many a time, the most recent was when I was working on building models. Great animation, and its short and sweet (five 30 min episodes) for those who don't want to commit to a full show with multiple seasons

I had a feeling it was the same animator. The characters all looked alike, but surprisingly in Majestic Prince the people actually much much different than Gundam SEED where pretty much everyone had the same face, but with different eyes. lol.

I'll check those two out - thanks!

Did anyone watch the re-imaging of Gaiking from a few years back?

Gaiking was a favorite of mine back in... the early 80's, so I was wondering if the update was any good?

Valvrave is on my watch list from seeing adds for it in Akiba... oddly I haven`t watched any anime since flying into Japan, and the only anime related stuff I`ve purchased was a gundam capsule outside of the gundam cafe (also in Akiba) I did play the actual full size gundam sim game at an arcade, so that might be two...

I'm still pissed there's no more seasons. It just ends after a massive game-changing event.

YES! Holy feth yes! Pretty intutitive too once you figured it out, there is a game called Burst Breaker or something like that that is a similar idea and is a little more modern, lots of options for giant robot carnage in Japanese arcades, also my flag is currently Japanese... that is awesome.

Funnily enough, I just did a school essay task on Shinto, the Japanese state religion. Coincidence?

I recommend you check out what they do as much as possible, it's really damn interesting.

Oh and how is Japanese food? ALWAYS check out food!

Yes! Japanese cuisine is excellent. I recommend the chicken teriyakia and the vegetable tempora. Those are my personal favorites. Aside from sushi, of course ^^

I always check the upcoming series on tvtropes, but they're probably not the best source. Nothing I've seen looks particularly capturing. There is the standard moetron thing too.

Indeed. And an overabundance of cute anime girls, although that may be a oxymoron.

We do have 3 mecha anime running now, and 2 of those run for 24 episodes, so there still is two series running in summer.

Majestic Prince, Valvrave, what's the third? Gargantia maybe?

Also, just started Black Lagoon last night. Three episodes in a d liking it so far.

I do not want to know what the Fate/Stay night re-imagining series featuring Ilya as a magic girl would be like. I don't.

Also, only the Kamisama no Inai Nichi-something thing seemed interesting to me.

That aside, I'm taking up to watch Deadman Wonderland.

Yes. Its a pretty fun show ^^

It gets really dark later on, however. Be sure to have a strong stomach and possibly a strong beverage of your choice. I did not need such a drink, as I am a manly man who laughs at things that looks like they're from a Serbian Film.

Gargantia

In the distant future, mankind has taken to the stars and formed the Galactic Alliance of Humankind (人類銀河同盟 Jinrui Ginga Dōmei?). The Alliance is engaged in a perpetual war with a tentacled alien species known as the Hideauze (ヒディアーズ Hidiāzu?). 16-year-old Ensign Ledo is a soldier in the Galactic Alliance, piloting a Machine Caliber (マシンキャリバー Mashin Kyaribā?), an AI-automated, humanoid-shaped battle suit, which he refers to as 'Chamber'. After a failed attempt by the Alliance forces to destroy an enemy super-weapon, Ledo is knocked into a wormhole and loses consciousness. When he awakens, he learns from Chamber that he has been in cryo-stasis for 6 months while his wounds were healing. Ledo learns that he and Chamber have been 'found' by a rag-tag band of 'primitive' human scavengers. Ledo quickly discovers that he is on board a massive floating ship on an ocean-covered planet. Chamber tells him that local star charts reveal the planet is Earth, the birthplace of humanity, a place that members of the Alliance were only familiar with from stories and believed was a myth.

Uh oh.
