On another note, any one else watched the first ep of Walkure Romanze aka Valkyrie Romance yet? This anime is so weird. It's cute girls, harem style rom com, but the girls are all knights and they're jousting as part of High School? Or something?

I have NO idea what's going on to be honest. There's plenty of fanservice, terribly designed armor (boob plates galore!) an initial "villain" with some very frilly underwear (someone was having a "I need to feel extra sexy today" moment), an extremely aggressive, possibly perveted horse that shares at least part of a name with the female lead, a brooding hero who hung up his lance and became a simple groomsman/squire (the anime persists in using a German sounding term I didn't quite catch) and again, jousting in a world where most of the women ride horses in miniskirts with their armor on over their school uniforms.

I read the synopsis for it, and I couldn't be bothered to even give it a shot. Now I feel justified in my decision.

With some further research it turns out to no one's surprise that Walkure Romanze is an H game based anime, suddenly all becomes clear. Sorta.

That... Sounds a lot worse hearing it from you than what I read in the site's synopsis. I've had it open and buffered to watch the first episode, but then I took a nap. May still watch it, I'm bored.

I found the first episode of Log Horizon pretty exciting! I am already liking it more than SAO. I also just like Log Horizon's and .hack's art style more than SAO's.
I also finished the Space Runaway Ideon movie. It was ok, its probably better and more epic to watch as a series. Everything moved really fast, was pretty brutal though.
An then I also finished Samurai Champloo. That was a lot of fun to watch, even if it was mostly filler : p

For anyone who hasn't caught it yet, I'd suggest Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova. I enjoyed the manga when I could find scans of it and though I find CGI annoying when its so noticeable, I think anyone who enjoys the likes of Deep Blue 6 will find something to like in a series basically about sci-fi versions of WWII war boats.

Anything in the new season that looks promising on CR?

Yeah. Hopefully though it'll get better. Kingdom started out the same way but has refined itself to the point that you can't tell the difference except when they're are a bunch of 'generic soldier guys' on screen cause they never bothered buffing their models XD

So I have long admitted that my anime equivalent of junk food is the anime Infinite Stratos

I Couldn't Become A Hero So Reluctantly I Decided To Get a Job is currently on the watch list... we are... entertained? Mostly? It looks like it's gonna be a cute little romcom, it's leaning heavy on the fan service button already, but that's just standard issue I guess.

There is one weird thing. "plot" speculation and some bitching about character design in the spoilers.
Spoiler:
So the demon king's daughter. They (the animators) apparently cannot keep her character design stable. She goes from petite loli with no curves (in the most obvious, the main character will think this individual is male, but everyone else with a brain cell is going to know she's a she disguise ever) to being a head shorter then the male lead with curves that need warning labels. I just.... goddamnit make up your minds! She's cute though and it's pretty clear that the show is going to shove the Demon King's Daughter and the Former Hero Trainee together while the convenience store owner tries to prevent the hook up so she can have Hero for herself. I dunno maybe I'll be surprised on the plot, but whatever. We'll see if I can manage to get through the entire season without giving up and writing my own story instead. With black jack and hookers.

I am now certain life is turning me into a very bitter and old man when out of 49 new animes I only think a handful of them look cool enough to watch.

And one of them is because it satisfies my "Ero-Sennin" nature and love of armors

Heheheh :p

I just realized I didn't finish the entire rest of that post. Let's try that again.

So I have long admitted that my anime equivalent of junk food is the anime Infinite Stratos. There's everything I need to shift my brain into cruising speed, flip on cruise control and put my higher brain functions through a shut down cycle. Cute girls a... well for what it is it's a decent story, well designed, unique (relatively) mechs with a pleasant combat style, characters that are for the most part quite likeable (Except Cecilia, girls with Hime curls are never a good sign) and they even manage to poke fun at their own genre/themselves here and there. (There's been a couple references in S1, and now a reference in E1S2 that Laura's XO in her German commando unit is a giant otaku, and gives her all her advice on how to "woo" Ichka. That's quite droll is what that is). Then there's a very solid OP and EP that are fun to listen to to make you forget about anything that popped up that you hate too much. This leads me to the briefly mentioned new episode of season 2. I am not impressed. There's some snippets of drama and plot but honestly the episode focused more on a fanservice trip to the water park then giving us a nice adrenaline kick and teasing us with some plot, and working the fan service eps into that like it's predecessor. It just seemed kinda random over all, like the due date jumped up on the IS team so they had to rush a couple odds and ends out the door and call that an episode. I am not impressed. I will however give the team the benefit of the doubt going forward, so hopefully it's just a weak first episode.... I really like this anime, I'm sure as hell not going to read the light novels, the cool stuff they did tease looks pretty awesome. So... yep

I have good news for you. They do the same stuff in the LN. Volume 8 had action, fan-service, and plot; the perfect mix that makes us love this series. The newly minted Volume 9 is going to be a "slap-stick romcom" cause he was "tired of writing action" as the author put it. So pretty much after a really good volume we are going to have to deal with a pure fan-service volume with a jumbled plot. It is just the trend of the series. (I guess this might not be good news then)
