Anvildude wrote: I'm not certain who exactly "Char" is. Anyone care to enlighten me?
Char Aznable is one of the main antagonists in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, as well as a recurring character throughout a lot of the UC Gundam series. He is also the most "copied" character in all of Gundam as evidenced.
While reading in wikipedia about said Char to discover more info (and fight the sleepiness while at work):

I can only guess he's very popular

Char is one of the most popular anime characters period. Zero only existed in Code Geass because Sunrise thought a masked figure was a stable of their studio. Name a scifi anime and chances are there's a Char reference in it somewhere.
Why did you have to do that to Hotaru-chan you perverted monsters? 5th grades are not supposed to have feminine curves. Specifically a bust that would look normal on a model! I mean I suppose for non slice of life anime she'd be "the flat one" but fething hell this is supposed to be vaguely connected to reality.

Who's the Char in Valvrave and guilty crown? I don't remember any so I guess they don't have one in every series. I don't expect them to have one in their adaptions for obvious reasons.

Well I said reference not necessarily a character clone but yes. Some hyperbole is involved
As for Valvrave we could be really twisted and point out that L-Elf is essentially a LeLouch expy, LeLouch himself being a Char expy. Expy by proxy
EDIT: And as for Guilty Crown. Ayase's piloting suit is red

I am going to have to ponder on this and answer tomorrow. I like a good challenge, and this is a good chance to talk about 3 of my favorite series (I have a bunch).
Dark Angels- 7500 pts Tau- 5000pts Chaos Daemons- 3000/2000 pts Dark Eldar(allies)- 1500 pts Zoom, Zoom, Iyaan.

True, but at the same time I forgive them because of how much I laughed with Komari's reactions. Poor girl
Edit: Ok, enough is enough, dropping Coppelion. If after 6 eps I still don't like it, I think I can say it won't get much better....

It's not even his real name. He was born Casval Rem Deikun, grew up as Edward Mass (to avoid getting killed by Gihren Zabi's assassins), gained legendary status both IRL and in-series as Char Aznable 'the Red Comet of Zeon', and went with the alias Quattro Bajeena during the Gryps War.

"In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same"
I will begin with Guilty Crown: Besides the previously mentioned Ace Pilot in red (Ayase), one could argue that Gai fills in the role of Char expy. Besides the obvious blonde hair, he goes through the reverse characterization cycle of Char. He starts as a main protagonist that can be rough on the main character (like Char in Gundam Zeta), and then becomes a main antagonist (like Char in Gundam 0079). Gai additionally has ulterior motives for everything he does (secrets, lies, etc.), and up to a point a secret identity hidden from the rest of the cast (similar to Char in both Gundam series). Just don't focus exclusively on Char's mask, it was a tool used to explicitly show his want to hide his true identity.
But Char is definitely the original, and iconic. He even has a sweet ass car designed after him. Next up is Valvrave.

I think your spot on there. Ayase is closer to Kallen for code geass than anything else, and they only really are similar in that they both happen to be good at z robots. One is a Worf (poor her), the other a cripple, and their characters don't really follow the same direction.

Valvrave- Cain Dressel (tentative), but I am going to hold off on definitive, explainative reasoning until later in the series when more of the details are revealed (hopefully).
Both Kallen and Ayase are somewhat similar; that is why I parroted the "ace" pilot in red thing. I am glad my reasoning is on the right track, although I have run into a problem with Valvrave due to it not being finished yet (and I ain't rushing it) and secrets/plot still left to be unraveled.

Well, finished Higurashi yesterday. All I'm missing are the fan-service OVAs (which shall be seen with extreme pleasure ) and that end...
Spoiler:
YEEEES! A complete and total happy end! Even for the villain! Everyone went through so much gak, everyone suffered so damn much through the damn series, I'm damn happy everyone managed to achieve a total victory.
Great, great story, I never would be able to guess the direction it would take, great plot-twists, damn, just freakin' amazing. First it just looked like random murder, then the disease, then the time-loop twist, wow.
Edit: Wow... gak just got serious in Kill la Kill. A damn good example of a WHAM episode, I can't believe they managed to do so much in a single episode.

There are no words to express how happy this anime (Golden Time) and it's ending song can make me. The only way it could possibly be better is if it was airing on Wednesdays so I could get a full on mid-week pick me up. Which to be honest... I really need a lot of the time. It's just so goddessdamn cute! Eee~

I know what you mean. I can't wait for the next episode to see what Ryuko will do now...

that she lost to that elite 4 dude.

Spoiler:
When Laura shows up by the end of episode 8 after she was defeated, grabs the densest man in the entire universe by the neck, gives him one hell of a kiss and says "I'm going to make you my bride"
And then I laughed a bit too loud while thinking how Laura is just that damn awesome
Didn't help the next ep was the mandatory beach one. So many hilarious moments.

Laura for the win. When dealing with a dense man, brute force and outright saying what you're about is the only defense. The impressive bit is Ichika is STILL oblivious.

EDIT: Okay, so probably not. But do any of you have good suggestions for fan fiction where the bad guys win?
eh In the berserk anime the bad guys win.. thats mainly due to it being a horrible anime series(manga and movies are Amazing) and a lack of an animation budget
Some of the Animatrix videos have the bad guys winning.
MD Geist
But be warned MD Geist is probably the worst anime ever made and the only reason the Bad guy wins in MD geist is because the main character is the bad guy.

Depending on how you define 'bad guy' Bastard!!! springs to mind. Since... well....'
"My obvious charms and god-like powers always dazzle the simple ordinary folk."
"Diamon, you bloodless fool, you forgot the most important rule of combat! You're the ugly, macho bad guy! Everyone knows the macho bad guy can't win, especially when he's fighting the exceptionally handsome and popular main character!"
Picture Warhammer, but grimmer, and darker, with a daemon prince of Slaanesh being thrust into the role of 'champion of mere mortals' because he's trying to get into a girls pants and not about to allow his former minions to show him up by destroying the world where he failed to.
In the Manga, Haruhi Suzumiya is actually in his harem. Seriously.

and more and more people keep confusing Harutora and Natsume. Kyouko at least has the excuse of apparently not remembering what the boy she made the promise with looks like (and they were children any way) but come the feth on. Even if we hadn't seen Natsume in girl's clothing first it's pretty fething obvious she's female. *facepalm*
that aside here's Kon being cute again.

Don't forget, everyone is freakin' oblivious when a girl is pretending to be a boy except for the audience. Nontheless, it's one of the most interesting love triangles I have ever seen in an anime: Kyouko most likely made the promise to Harutora because of that mini-flashback, Harutora loved Natsume's familiar that was nothing but a kind of "remote controlled puppet", hence, he loves Natsume, he's just as dense as the guy in IS and Natsume loves Harutora I can't wait to see the moment when Kyouko finds out Nastume-kun is a Natstume-chan
