GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Because I blew through just about all of the ones I listed previously, here's my new to-do list! Now, which should I watch first or not watch at all?
Darker than black, Trigun, fist of the north star, Gurren Lagan, GTO, Monster, or Neon Genesis Evangelion, Elfen Lied?

The genres are so different, I don't even know where to begin. All of them deserve a watch (I still haven't watched some of them) but because I'm a fanboy, I say Trigun or Gurren Lagann.

No, our only hope is if gets a reboot like FMA. I would love it since it gets so much better. Oh, and the anime ending is a complete "fake", really, Priscilla is still kicking ass at this moment.

For darker than black please ignore the second season, it's really bad IMO.

Anyway, kinda like draconic said, such vastly different genres I don't know where you would start.

Monster is all serious all the time, Darker than black too. Elfen lied had some occasional anime nonsense but that's about it.

GTO, Gurren and Trigun are hilarious all the time, though once againt he genres are completely different. (school life/mecha/cowboyish)

Haven't watched fist of the north star and never will.

Anyway, marathoned first season of magi yesterday, that show is amazing and the animation quality is great. :O And Sinbad is a badass.

Hey, hey, hey, spoilers!

I too want to watch Magi, friends of mine really liked it so it's yet another to the "Must see" list. The problem is the list only gets bigger, never shorter.

You say Magi- is that Magi Madoka whatchamacallit? Or something else?

Actually, anyone have any good Magic-themed Anime they know of? Cyberpunk and sci-fi and "Anime" themed anime is all well and good (and I lurves me some Mecha), but I've been itching for some proper magic themed stuff for a while now- Instant Runes and wards and fireballs and overly-decorated outfits. I'm looking forward to the continuation of Little Witch Academia, because it looks awesome, and I might even go ahead and re-watch Nanoha again. Heck, even giving Pretty Cure a try since I sorta missed that first wave of Magical Girl dubs (watched, well, disjointed Sailor Moon- is it worth a proper straight-through re-watch?). Or any Magic Knight anime that would be good?

Man, when's Chaika gonna have its next episode?

@Anvildude - Magi. It's an arabian themed manga/anime with characters like Aladdin, Sinbad and Alibaba. I think the Season 2 finished this last Winter Season.

Hum, Magic you say. If we are considering classics, and if you didn't see it, I'd recommend Slayers: Lina Inverse is one of the most fun-tastic fire-ball throwing characters of all time. Oh, and if you play DOTA, Lina is based of her. I rarely play, but when I do, I have to Laguna Blade someone in da face.

This last Season I saw Witch Craft Works and it was pretty darn good and different from the usual. Why? 'Cause one of the MC is OP as hell. Doesn't start weak, oh no, she starts KICKING ASS with plenty of fire magic.

This season there's a magic themed anime with a twist: All magic is science based, so it's a Sci-Fi / Fantasy hybrid. The setting is after WWIII, around 2098 if I recall correctly. It's Mahouka if you are interested.

Oh, another Fantasy setting with some magic and one of my personal favorite animes is Record of the Lodoss War. The OP song remains one of the best ever made in my book.

These are the animes I recall off the top of my head that aren't "Magical Girl" standard. I'm at work so I can't do a better research, sorry mate.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is the one he's talking about with Ali Baba and Aladin and such. It's Extremely good. Also I will second that Slayers is quite good as well. Mahouka, aka The Irregular at Magic Highschool, has also been entertaining so far as well. Still not entirely sure where that story is going.

Yep, Magi: the labyrinth of magic and the second season which is called magi: Kingdom of magic. And yes, it has lot's of magic.

Also, it has the occasional Djinn bewbs. And a couple bloody scenes.

Also it's not purely arabian, there's also a sort of Roman empire, Chinese/mongolian style empire and even a harry potter style magic school/country.

No, not really, I think Lina should be considered "strong" but not really OP: she gathered party members, as a woman she has that weakness once a month ( I love the little details ) and she did have some troubles now and then.

The one from WCW is just ridiculous. It's a new level of OP and it's fantastic for it.

EDIT: I'm bored out of my mind @ work right now, so I've been thinking about other Fantasy like animes I watched with western-like magic or at least a setting.

Scrapped Princess comes to mind. It's a softer version of Gurren Lagann, really, it starts all fantasy like, by the end... well, let's not spoil the surprises and no,
Spoiler:
it doesn't have 2 gigantic mechs throwing galaxies at each other.

ofc, Fairy Tail, too. I know it's more shonen, but the magic there really is interesting and when I followed it the battles were awesome. And Erza is completely badass... pity I just don't have the patience for animes with so many eps anymore.

Violinist of Hameln I haven't seen but I'm mighty curious about. Music is like magic, (like Ar Tonelico, and God-Emperor, am I fan-boy of Ar Tonelico) and the anime seems to be very dark. I have seen some quotes, it feels dark. GRIIIIIIIIIIM-DARK.

Yeah, fairy tail reminded me of one piece, and the magic is... mostly just the people having random special talents not unlike one piece, but they append the wizard tag. Fun, but a whole lot of 'you can solve problems by being brave and bashing your head against them'.

Slayers definitely has magic... what about the legend of legendary heroes? There's lots of magic, and horrible dismberment, but its only a season long and basically meant to plug the books as far as I can tell.

Watching Blue Exorsist, it is uhh... definitely an anime. Doesn't take itself too seriously, the main character is kind of a 'keep trying hard until it works out' guy, but somewhat flexible. Wonky characters, school, mild fan service, its a pretty standard show. Always interesting to see christianity mutated and merged with other faiths in these shows, but they don't play the church/Vatican angle too hard... at least not so far.

I have never heard about the LoLH before. I am now 100% interested just because of the name. That is one awesome name.

Its part political intrigue, part magic/adventure, part flying rodent gak insane. I wish the show was more than a glorified advertisement for the books I'll never read.
