Not saying i wouldn't if i watched it but i'm not sure i plan to. I don't always like the super serious sad animes. There are at least a couple i wanted to watch.
Considering a couple big sad moments of my life i think it'd beat Clannad pretty hard. The last one was a girl that i loved (thought she was perfect and 'the one') which now won't even talk to me (it's been years and no word). The other one is when my mom died of ovarian cancer when i was 19. Your f**king move Clannad. Make me cry harder than that. Oh and just for all of you to know that scene in full metal alchemist where the two brothers are sad their mom died and instantly didn't know what would happen to their lives without somebody to care for them is totally spot on. You come to that realization when your mother has also died when you were fairly young. I don't even know how they'd cope with that at that age.

Chongara, I'd actually suggest Eureka 7. Love story, character growth, single season, drama, action.
There's a tiny bit of plot-relevant 'fanservice' but nothing overt or overly in-your-face, and the sad stuff and 'twists' aren't at the end, but rather part of the character growth.
GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I've seen actually years ago on AS when they ran it. Wasn't too bad.

Story about your mom dude. I almost lost mine a year ago so I sympathise.
Clanned is definitely up there in the sadness. In the second season I should clarify.

Stuff I want:
* Fewer than 100 episodes long. 1-2 seasons worth would be ideal, but I'm not entirely opposed to something slightly shorter or longer.
* Consistently delivers on the warm-fuzzies and/or character drama.
* Love * Character Growth.
Stuff I don't want:
* Fanservice. No bouncing boobies, no panty shots, no lingering butt shots. This is a strict requirement as. A: I'll be watching in a public space. B: It generally annoys me.
* Tragic twists or last minute feel-bads.
* Episodic shows or gag comedies.
* Creepy incensty or under-agey feeling stuff.
Canaan fits the wants pretty well, although there are lots of emotions involved (at least for me). Pretty short though.
Edit: Although there are instances of sexuality, it's not in a bad way. It's adult subject dealt with by adults not 13YOs.
Edit: I'm not sure how I managed to do that.... You know what, I'm just going to leave it like that.

Clannad is quite sad but it is not the saddest anime ever. I still think the grave of the fireflies.

Well, characters having sex (off screen) and talking about it is fine. It's just I generally do my TV (including anime) watching while I'm at the gym. I stream stuff to watch while I'm on the treadmill. So like I'm like immune to shame enough to be that guy watching cartoons at the gym, but not that guy watching titty cartoons.
Im very upset. I had to wait one fething week to put a preoreder on a show I wanted (Needed my next check) and now its gone from crunchy so im assuming it was a limited run or something. Damnit! This always happens!
Comments are still down all over the site so im hoping its a glitch in the system but I dont hold much hope the store seems to be working just fine

Planetes is very good, and while it gets a little dark near the end it's a happy ending and it's never really tragic.

Actually, if you sympathized so much with the FMA:B scene because of what's happened to you, Clannad will probably do the same thing but even worse.
I am the Hammer. I am the right hand of my Emperor. I am the tip of His spear, I am the gauntlet about His fist. I am the woes of daemonkind. I am the Hammer.
I dunno Clannad just seems like it's overly dramatic and just not my style. Full metal alchemist just got better towards the end and things don't always feel forced. Often the brothers just go into some serious sh*t because of their jobs.
Also i mean the original full metal alchemist not full metal alchemist brotherhood. I'm not sure how they differ but something tells me it is like the difference between hellsing and hellsing ultimate. Speaking of which i only saw the first hellsing as well. So yeah i only saw the normal FMA and normal hellsing.
Also i won't lie though what i said about my mom is true sometimes i bring it up to gain a bit of sympathy which is a very crappy thing to do esp. in the memory of my mom. I was kind of debating with myself whether to bring it up or not but i did. In case you guys don't know Trondheim lost his wife to breast cancer and he's only about 25 so cut him some slack sometimes. I only wish he had a sense of humor or something. I think that's what prevented him from wanting to continue being friends with me (well that and i'm a massive pervert). Just because you share a fairly similar event in life doesn't mean you'll have a successful relationship whether friendly or otherwise.

Both FMA's started based on the manga, but the original FMA caught up very quickly. Instead of adding filler episodes and waiting for the manga to finish, they wrote their own unique ending. FMA Brotherhood, however, follows the manga for its entirety. The first twenty episodes of the original FMA cover the same material as the first ten episodes of Brotherhood, but they diverge from there.
While the original FMA is pretty good, Brotherhood simply blows it out of the water. Brotherhood is phenomenal, with an intricate and massive cast of complex characters and plotlines.

The way he killed Lust and took out Envy were total badass moments.
His relationship with Hawkeye also manages to be cute, hilarious, and sweet all at the same time.

I litter ally learnt to snap my fingers just because mustang.
now I can do it louder than anyone else I know.
also, indeed about hawkeye and mustang. I really love the fact that they don't need to have them dry humping by the ned for us to know that something is happening.
I have watched fullmetal alchemist bortherhood (all episodes) at least five times.

Brotherhood is still one of my favorites in terms of animes ever created.

Anyway, the definition of Otaku changes greatly between Japan and the outside: In Japan Otaku can be both an insult and a compliment IIRC. The insult is for those they consider shut-ins, NEETs, those who are truly addicted and obsessed with their anime live and girls. The compliment is when you are extremely good at something, like for example your PC broke down and someone suggests to take it to Bob because he's a "computer Otaku" and he should be able to help.
Well, something that didn't help the "Otaku culture" was the Otaku Murderer:
Tsutomu Miyazaki (宮﨑 勤 Miyazaki Tsutomu?, August 21, 1962 – June 17, 2008), also known as The Otaku Murderer or The Little Girl Murderer, was a Japanese serial killer, cannibal and necrophile who abducted and murdered four young girls in Saitama and Tokyo Prefectures from August 1988 to June 1989. His crimes included vampirism as a crime and preservation of body parts as trophies.
This is why we can't have nice things. Akihabara used to have Cosplay on Sundays, but the Akihabara Massacre changed that too:
The Akihabara massacre (秋葉原通り魔事件 Akihabara Tōrima Jiken?, lit. "Akihabara random attacker incident") was an incident of mass murder that took place on Sunday, June 8, 2008, in the Akihabara shopping quarter for electronics, video games, manga and anime in Sotokanda, Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan.
At 12:33. JST, a man drove into a crowd with a truck, eventually killing three people and injuring two; he then stabbed at least 12 people using a dagger (initially reported as a survival knife[1]), killing four people and injuring eight.[2][3][4][5]
Outside Japan, many people who really like anime seem to love calling themselves Otaku. Just never call yourself one in Japan

"Fear is freedom! Subjugation is liberation! Contradiction is truth! These are the truths of this world! Surrender to these truths, you pigs in human clothing!" - Satsuki Kiryuin, Kill la Kill
yeah it seems that english just takes it as "nerd".
I will never forget one time wat school when we had japanese visiters. one guy, dan, had just finished showing me a *ahem* picture*ahem* of saeko from HOTD, when this girl who I used to be friends with walked past. this girl is obsessed with anime and hatsune miu, which me and my friend shad told dan. all of a sudden he jumps up, taps her shoulder and says "you are otaku?" and she smiles and goes "why yes, I am." really happily, and I just collapsed laughing.
No reason to "collapse laughing". It's a bit nerdy, but there's no harm in calling yourself an Otaku over in the west, it's not exactly a "SHAMEFUR DISPRAY, YOU MUST COMMIT SUDOKU" thing . Different cultures with different meanings and all that.
Japanese are guilty of plenty of funny stereotyping too. This is an obvious exageration, BUT, not that far from the truth
