Vik, I think that helm turned out quite nicely and authentic in concept. More detail on sides would look ridiculous. The worst thing about it however is the need for a whole new "eagle" themed set But considering SM's love for helm-swapping I think it'll work fine with any SM armor GW, FW or mine.

don´t get me wrong... the amount od detail is just right...

for my own taste the beak could have turned out more peaked... as of now it looks a bit dodo like... what kind of bird should it stand for? a condor perhaps?

ah, i see now... didn´t have thought that the beak would be so curved... but from that pic you are very close to your referrence!

and now i see more details that you used to carry over from the original SM head to work for your own needs... like the "ears" of the helmet...

Vik don't forget a lot of historical aspects are being used on this model, I to thought for a moment it was rather large and curved beak, but I then remembered pictures of Aztec designs and thought it is spot on

Plus we are so used to those bloody eagle head marines

@Storag Great work mate spot the eye for detail is next to none nice work, ignore Vik he has become a bit of critique as of late

Vik, I figured that there is always a major problem with animalistic motifs at decor - you have to balance realism with geometrical patterns. To much realism and you'll end with your character wearing dead animals parts. Focus to much on geometry and you'll get some abstract something that no one understand... I keep thinking about how I can improve that one, there always is a room for improvement

Thx LDD, I take no offence at Vik - it's always a good thing to look with other's eyes One can get pretty involved in creative process and stray too far in own fantasies...

But seriously I think you have captured the feel of their culture well, I also think the mould between the 2 concepts has been blended creatively without over powering each other.

after seeing storags inspiration the design grew on me...

we had to do some work at the wifes laptop over the moring and then again in the evening... some audio books to convert to MP3 and thus i was always sneaking in on dakka^^
