I love seeing stuff like this, it's really great for inspiration especially when it's done so well! :-) it all looks fantastic and the colour even sets off your Lamenters beautifully! I'm looking forward to seeing the next page in your book of awesome.

Thanks for checking in. As always comments, suggestions and critque help me get better!

Still alot of work to do and lots of details to add!

What will that be you ask.. ( ok you didn't ) but I'll tell you anyway!

Plans on the outerwall having some scaffolding and Platforms for some Quad gun like AA.
The roadways between the bunkers will have the start of some road works( which eventually is an entrance to the Loyalist display board) . The sides of those entrances will be lined with plates and beams ( to hold the material from spilling into the road) .
Sandbags lining the base of the bunkers. Sandbags and crates as barriers next to the bunkers. Imperial painting on the inner and outer walls!

Then on to the Loyalist section!

I'm trying to determine if the entrances need some sort of gate or door? Thoughts?
( edited so mzny tmz do to bad spellink !!) ~sigh~

Weekend Update.

Some more work on the Secessionist side of the display.
Quad guns for main outer wall - Will clean up the barrels!

AA Wall Gun Line…

Newly Painted crater markers..

Display Extras

Overall Display progress
Added gravel – will be painted/blended to match the base color.

Added the AA platforms and finished the Outer wall

The plating to the back wall ( leads to the loyalist display ) – for some reason the plating came out much more blue than reality.

Didn't have the attention span to paint last night.. so I roughed out the Loyalist display. Will take some pic's tonight. ( after I dig out from the latest snow storm - Every 4/5 days we get a snow dump)

Thou you are only going to see styrofoam, it should give you a general idea on what I'm going for.

Rough in…

Access tunnel ( this will be facing the judges – unlike last year’s stealer hole which I’m not sure got seen)

Now with lights..

For Fun I decided to see how well the layout worked by putting some of the extras on the board.. Not sure I’ll use them all ( the walkway for instance) but you can hopefully see where I’m going with this…

Main staging platform gets some detail

Starting to connect the 2 Displays together… To the right is the Loyalist board, the left the Secessionists. The Gaps in the left wall are the openings from the secessionist board.

For scale. Looking from the back of the board towards the front.

The joining test… Lot still need to be glued down. Stuff that will need to be further painted ect.

Combined display shots…

The back platform is for the Ord. ( which will sit an additonal 18 in. in height) the walled section to the left is for the FoR ( which will sit an additional 14 IN. in height. ( again not all the floors have been glued down - Many need work and a lot of washing/ weathering to do )

The second to the last arch At the back ) is reduced in height and will have a walkway ( spotter? sniper? )

DA tower.. very rough at this stage…

Side look w/tunnel

Overall look

“ That is the dirtiest bathroom ever, Hey where is the bus?”

As always comments welcome.

AA taken care of.

Landing pad? Might use that open section for that! Have to remember that there need to be space for the 4 armies worth of figures ( per side - we have close to 180 on the secessionist board alone) and the loyalist have all those extra's I've been painting .

The Secessionist board has all sorts of obstacles , tank traps, PDF finest and those turret's bunkers.

I need to see about my old Servitors!

Whats the plan for that tower? Are you going to have room for people on top? You said DA tower, is it going to be like the fortress of redemption?

Finally got to my home computer so that I can take a good look at it (my phone doesn't do it justice). That's an amazing piece of work SL. The fact that you're putting together the displays for BOTH teams and doing it with such flair is really impressive.

I love the way the tunnel looks. Lit or not... it looks terrific both ways. It's awfully dark in there though. I wonder if you couldn't put something like drainage grates along the edges on top that would act as skylights to brighten it up a bit. Either that or you'll have to choose what goes in it carefully so it's as visible as possible.

The painting on the concrete surfaces is fantastic! Did you make your own stencils??

Our armies are going to look SO GOOD on that... thanks for all your work SL. Wow.

P.S. That whole thing looks big enough to play a game on...

Certainly looks excellent indeed Can I make a suggestion? Add some brass rods of various thickness protruding from the vertical edges that don't quite line up, rather than, say smoothing them off; will give the impression of supports and shoring. Does that make sense? I'm thinking particularly of the gap to the left of the tunnel. Another idea might be a large bore plastruct tube with lots of small gauge tubing and wiring emerging, like a info/energy conduit.

Of course you could actually take a bunch of optical fibres and do that too

Me? Planting seeds in your brain? Never...

I havent finished any of the side edges. They will be smoothed out. the gaps are part of the construction to...
A. use less material ( creating a framework rather than a solid mass of foam).
B. Add less weight as possible
C. The Gaps build in some flexability to the structure ( nothing ruins your day than a cracked display during transport)

That actually is a good idea as it is the side we will be presenting to the judges, Add some additional little details. Maybe bore out that section and pipe it and add my trademark genestealer.. Hummm

No that was Ork speak Da ( the ). Originally I planned to do a crane, but building one now seems out of scope due to time. Most likely I'll do an Observation tower. It should be at minimum the size of the bunkers on the secessionist board. Might be a good spot for a sniper? It will be plated to blend in with the rest of the aesthetic design elements ( functional but somewhat crude - think bunkers)

Man... I've cut a lot of rivits for this display!

SL, I've got an idea for mass-producing rivets... especially for something as large as the display. Give me a call on my cell if you want to talk.

Hardware cloth is (I think), a fine wire mesh and would be a good stand-alone grating material. The stuff I found was actually a kind of soft plastic mesh and would need to be backed by something else (in this case, thin, clear plastic sheet).

I was thinking more metal grate . Heavy duty. I think that the would be better for say fencing.

I might be able to do something with plastic rods. Still hav many other maor things to do prior.
