Probably one of my favorite Dark Mechanicus armies so far. Still wading through all these pages, though... have you thought of consolidating some of the juicier stuff on the first post for the benefit of newcomers?

Actually, that's not a bad idea - here's the Dark Mechanicus stuff, I'll get the Death Guard sorted out later.

Dark Mechanicus overview:

The Kaban engine (Daemon prince)

Hunter drones (Terminators)

Helbrutes:

Skitarii:

Thallaxian Praetorians (Noisemarines):

Bikes:

Heldrake Squid:

Defiler:

Forgefiend:

Maulerfiend:

Data Daemons:

Your models are outstanding to look at and I would love to get my hands on some of them to paint. So looking forward to what else you've got planned.

Thanks a lot. :-)

Regarding any resemblance to a computer game; I wouldn't know, I haven't had a computer game on my pc for 21 years. ;-) I don't know, they just never really appealed to me.

I WOULD get to painting them, if only I could just figure out what colour scheme they should get. It's really frustrating. I've made at least 10 different tests these last few days, and none of them really appeal to me. It makes it even harder that I don't really enjoy painting armies. Single miniatures... Fine. Armies just seem so tedious. I am actually considering getting them comission painted, if I can find someone good. Either that, or some simple very effective techniques.

I know the feeling. That's why I gave up on playing and decided to concentrate on just modelling and painting.

http://www.gmmstudios.com maybe? Might be a bit expensive but it'd be the coolest army ever made...

Have you got an airbrush? It'd make the process of painting a lot of miniatures a lot less laboured for you if you normally use a brush.

...provided you manage to avoid the horrible, airbrushed look sported by many models painted that way. Don't get me wrong, an airbrush is a powerful and potentially awesome tool, but for every hobbyist managing to complete a fantastic army that way, there are several ending up with a boring, same-y, overworked look. If you're going for an airbrush, a combination with regular brushwork for the detail, weathering etc. is usually better Just my 2 cents, though

Regarding the problem at hand, Rasmus, it sounds strange that you, of all people, should consider having an army commission painted -- or maybe it's just the fact that your painted models so far have always looked stellar! I am definitely feeling your pain when it comes to painting armies though -- sometimes it's just not that much fun.

In any case, I believe you will need a working colour scheme (and preferrably one successful test model to go with it) first. Otherwise there's a rather big chance of you being disappointed with the overall look. If you need a while to come up with a working recipe, that's alright. Rather take your time than hurry it along just to be disappointed later. Sometimes inspiration can just be a ...female dog like that

Personally speaking, I still think no. 9 (maybe combined with some hazard stripes) could end up looking awesome, though... Or else a similar recipe to the one meade used for his Dark Mechanicus/Black Legion project, maybe?

There's only one solution Guita... build more awesome models until you can figure out how to handle the painting!

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I must know how you built that newer Helbrute, it's fantastic, I have to copy it

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Thanks for being the voice of reason. Sometimes I get so caught up in the hobby, that I forget its just that - a hobby. No need to push myself to come up with a colour scheme, it'll come to me. :-)

Gitsplitta: Thats exactly what I'm doing. ;-) Actually, it's a combination of me finding out that my decimator kit is one of the bad kits that leave the factory - as in "release agent reacted with resin-will never have paint stick to it". Forgeworld sent me a new one, which is much better, but honestly I don't want to convert the same thing again - so I got creative tonight, and started a new forgefiend, that will have 3 ectoplasmas (something that bothered me about the old one) and is based on a forgefiend, but very different. Hopefully some wip pics tomorrow. :-)

OH-I Wanna get out of here

If you gave the old one a thin coat of liquid green stuff or spray on glue or something, would that salvage it? Or maybe a more aggressive primer, like a sandable auto primer?
