Dang it. Now my plans for a new Demon Prince seem a lot less ambitious.

But yeah, glad you're back. That is one amazing model. And I see I'm not the only one who couldn't resist getting that new Tyranid model for the mouth tentacles alone.
The green stuff cables are excellent and I just love how I find new parts the longer I look at it.

Thanks a lot - actually, I'm even more glad that the "I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going"-version of the dual kit sucks so bad ruleswise, that I pretty much can get as many as I want for free - every nid player in my local gaming club is putting the dual kit together as the shooty version.

Really? I just read the rules for the shooty version and was irritated than he wasn't really that much better than other large shooty 'Nid. I actually bought one, but it's okay, I needed the arms as well.

I was messing about with paint tonight, and stumbled upon a great and very easy way to paint the gold trims - I love it. Gold has always been a troublemaker for me, but this seems to work great. I'm very seriously considering painting my Dark Mechanicus as Iron Warriors - what say ye?

The method is very simple:

1) Basecoat AV Tinny Tin (GW Tin bitz)

2) Drybrush GW Shining Gold

3) Drybrush (very lightly, only edges should get picked out) AV Gold (very light gold colour)

4) Heavy wash of Army Painter Strong Tone (Devlan mud)

5) Drybrush AV Gold again

6) Paint middle of trims with Seraphim Sepia

7) Pick out rivets with badab black.

I think it's a great method to getting great gold, with barely any precision painting = very easy, very quick.

Fantastic. I'll have to give it a try. Gives a much more dynamic look than even my best gold.

Thank you good sir!

I like the iron warriors theme much more. The other one is good, but not as good!

Great work once again, all your work is amazing.

If you're messing around with possible ideas, can you do a test piece in the dark turquoise that was one of your early ideas for the colour recipe -- maybe even combined with the hazard stripes?

Out of these two, though, I'd say Iron Warriors: The excellent recipe you used on the trim really sells the look for me!

Go with the dark green. Iron Warriors would make them just another Iron Warriors army. Albeit VERY well converted IWs.

You know, that's a really tough decision. Looking at the rest of the Dark Mechanicus stuff you did I'm not so sure Iron Warriors colors would do them justice. I gotta thing about this a bit more.

I made a testpiece last night, and while it's great that theres only about 2 hours work to get from primer to this, I'm afraid it's a bit too dark:

I think I need to do a couple more fullsize testers with red and another colour scheme.

My favorite blog is back! Hooray!

I'm partial to the darker chaos schemes, particularly dark mech - I like the idea of smoke and oil stained armor. What you've got so far looks good, perhaps just some highlighted edges and I'd say you have a winner there.

Glad to see you've got some mojo back

It is dark. But gorgeous, too.

I'm torn. Seeing an entire army in this scheme.... it really would capture the feel of these particular Astartes (whom I picture as dark, brooding, implacable...)

What other color ideas are there? Would there be any way for you to do a chrome scheme, then have it gone over with enough soot and oil and rust that you can only see the original shiny reflective bits in spots?

Perhaps if you pick out some of the details in brighter colors, like all the eyes, and maybe do the horns in a bone color hat will bring back some balance. You could also d lighter colored basing to help show how dark these guys have become in the warp.

Also, I never liked that model.....until now

I wouldn't worry about it yet. Detail on the horns, another layer or two of highlights on the purple, the eyes in the armor, etc. And don't forget the base is dragging it down into black. I think it looks very foreboding.

Thanks guys. I've painted over the metal plates with red, to get an idea if that will work - also I'm experimenting with glowing green runes, which I'm in love with. Pics tomorrow.

Yep, it's very fast - I don't like labouring over paint, so I use the time necessary to experiment with getting great results with minimum effort. I believe it's time well spent, since it will allow me to paint this army quite quickly.
