Looking for some advice on my next walker folks. I'd thought of using this head to make a second Defiler but there is something not quite right about it. I can't quite put my finger on it though so I'm looking for some feedback please.

First glance notes:
1) The face and the shoulders are too different. The head looks too small compared to the shoulders. There's too much empty space. I would recommend reducing the shoulders so that the head doesnt look sunken in/too small.
2) The gun on top is too small for the placement. It looks tiny when compared to the upper torso. I would move it to either one of the arms or another, smaller area.
3) The legs look great. I like the predatory feel from the way the joints are set.
Random Question: What are you planning on using this walker for? A defiler conversion or a warhound?

Well, after giving it some more thought, here’s my take:
First of all, like I already told you: While I share your slight uneasiness, there’s always the possibility that it’s actually looking great, but that were are spoiled by your fantastic Bloodstalker using that awesome head kitbashed from a Stonehorn “facemask” and lots of technical bitz
That said, maybe this particular head would work better with a less angular, less machinelike upper body: something more rounded and organic looking, not unlike the bodies for the fiend kit or FW Blood Slaughterer. I would also add all kinds of cabling connecting to the open “brainpan” of the head to give it more substance: Combined with the Defiler’s very flat “shoulders”, it seems a bit lacking atm.

I think I'm gonna scrap the head for the second walker, I may use another Stonehorn head with a few changes. I may use the Daemon face for a flyer.

That head is kinda Oriental looking. Maybe look at making a Long (eastern dragon) inspired Maulerfiend from it?

Freytag, Im using the Blood Stalker (where the legs come from) as a counts as Defiler, if you go back a page or two you can see the progress on that guy. My Warhound proxy the Gorehound is a back a couple of pages as well
Kraut, it is indeed lacking at the moment and I would be adding all sorts of gubbins and cables to it but Im just not feeling it right now. I think it may look a bit better if I remove the topmost eye.
Anvildude, while I really like that idea I just dont think it would fit the feel of my army. Not discounting it though.

Hmm. If you ever did a second Gorehound then that face could work well.
Also, one thing I think would improve the Gorehound is either a pair of horns or a set of long curving tusks.

No pictures in this post but I have scrapped the second Defiler for now. Im just really not feeling it and don't want to make a carbon copy of the Blood Stalker. On that note I've decided to work on a counts as Forge/Mauler fiend. I picked up a Grey Knight Nemesis on Friday and hope to have some progress to show soon. I have to wait till after the new year for weapons as a friend at my club is supplying them and I've ordered a head from eBay so again that will probably be next year before it arrives.

Over the past year or so I've gotten to know a few hobbyists on here and always appreciate the honest feedback and ideas that you all provide. One guy in particular Krautscientist has been invaluable in helping me out with some bits for certain models and just general advice when it came to my first forays into the actual gaming side of the hobby. Today I received this link in a pm from him that really humbled me. Thanks again buddy.

Loving the look of these. Very brutally posed. I'd love to know your bits source too, crazy amounts of different kits used throughout. You can't be buying the full kits, can you?
Going back to the Daemonic Face, I'd maybe wait until the Chaos Daemons codex gets released, maybe they'll be a new Daemon Engine or perhaps use it as a belly plate for a Blood Thirster or something.

I like what you've done with the dreadknight arms, i'm presuming their going to be some kind of giant exhaust/brazier with flames billowing out of them?
Alternatively if that's where the cannons are going, for an over the shoulder thing that would be equally cool. I'll take you up on that PM offer, good sir. I'll need to be building up my bits levels over the next few months. The Terminators are ready, it's just all the stuff that needs to be stuck to them that needs buying!
Also, see for the small skulls that you use, where do you get them? Cast up yourself, or from another kit? VC skeleton heads look about the right scale, but some GW skulls are bigger than the heads I plan on using. The skulls that you, and Kraut use in your threads seem to be the right scale or feel right at least.

I was thinking of mounting either the cannons or the tendrils there, not sure yet will decide when I get the bits.  I had thought about using them as braziers as warshrine bits fit pretty well there but it wouldnt look right with the rest of the machines.

The new Maulerfiend is looking very cool... and definitely improving on previous builds... I think you should keep him squat as possible. It never hurts to build up the cables and machinery around the connections to the limbs... makes the whole thing seem more muscular and chaotic

Great work on the Raptors and new daemon engine so far, buddy! I guess it was a very conscious decision not to use bunny ears on the Raptors, right?
About the daemon engine: You should definitely use the idea with the braziers attached to the dreadknight arms you posted earlier! That would probably look extremely cool and also channel some of the vintage chaos artwork! Maybe the braziers/arms could be attached to the sockets on the back:
Also, that facelike defiler part seems a little wasted on the back of the model: Maybe it could be used on the front, surrounding the actual head?!
Oh, and I have a slighly crazy idea for the model's actual arms: What about having the lasher tendrils surround the Hades Autocannons, not unlike the tentacles of an Octopus. I did a (fairly horrible) mockup with Photoshop to show you what I mean. Take a look:
I hope this gives you an impression. Like this, you would only need one pair of arms to represent the cannons as well as the CC options.

The Defiler plate is just for some decorations round the back as it was a little plain, I did try it on the front but couldn't get it to fit in a way I was happy with.
The idea for the tendril/cannon arms is a beauty! I may try something like that when I get the bits. Cheers buddy. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ps yes it was a conscious decision to avoid the bunny ears ok the raptors. I may change my mind but for now I'm happy enough with the head choices. When I build my bikers they will be eared so to speak.
