The combi weapons they do for the Black Ops figures have magnet holes. Wouldn't surprise me if these do too.

I like the plasma rifle. It kind of reminds me of the plasma rifle seen in the more recent iterations of Doom. Hmm. I wouldn't mind seeing a Doomguy helmet at some point.

It was mentioned above that these would be a bit scaled down from the Black Ops stuff (music to my ears). Is there a lot of space around the Black Ops weapon magnet holes? One of my concerns was that scaling it down might not leave enough surface area for magnets.

Morning all,

Regarding the magnets.

I actually initially designed the weapons to be push fit - with a small bit of blu-tac or even plasticine or similar, the top part should just push in place and be sturdy enough to last a game.

Similarly with the Power Pack, its most likely I will design special torsos such that the power pack slots on the back and will hold with tac.

I've had a look this morning -

The Exo-Lord lance carbine is 2.7mm wide, and has pre cast holes for 2mm diameter magnets, and that just leaves enough space on the sides.

The current Regiments versions are 2.1mm wide, which just isn't enough - We could 3D print it but the resin parts would be much to fragile.

Options -

1. No magnet holes - design slots such that the top part can push on with a bit of tac and an interference fit (This is the current plan)

2. Precast holes for 1mmx1mm magnets (which we could supply) - this would be easy and require no design changes, but magnets of that size are really fiddly and not that strong.

3. change the design to widen the weapons at the point between the hands, making space for a 2mm wide pre-cast hole. This would be easiest from a magnet point of view, but would make the weapons quite clunky looking.

Your opinions are very welcome!

I would support option 2, but with 2 holes for the 1 x1mm magnets, as the weapons are long enough.
They're fiddly, but even I manage to use them.

Option 3 could be widened with a PEQ in that position. Ist a thought.

Really looking forward to hold those great sculpts in my greedy hands.

1x1mm magnets should be fine, they don't need to be super strong, and as miniholic said, you could fit a couple in

Another vote for 1x1mm holes.
They're strong enough to hold small resin bits, and it's easy to widen the hole for 1,5mm magnets, or use more 1mm ones.

I think I had some 1x3 mm ones at some point. Easier to handle than 1x1, and if the holes are prefabricated it should be a problem.

Also pro 1mm magnets.

If those are the only options, 1mm cast holes sounds best. Power shouldn't be an issue in with parts that small, plus N52 magnets are ridiculous even at that size (I used them to hold the vexilia back banners on some B@C marines and I can pick up the entire marine using a single pair of magnets, one in the backpack, one in the standard pole).

If you're still looking at other options, 1.5mm magnets can be obtained and are much less fiddly than 1mm ones whilst meeting the space requirements….
Plus if you ended up reselling them I'd love to find a new supplier as eBay is terminally deficient in them these days.

That would leave about .5mm on each side of the hole. .5mm walls around the hole might be too thin to cast reliably. To put that in perspective, that's a wall on each side of the hole roughly the thickness of the lead from a mechanical pencil.

Anvil's hammer previously suggested that a 2mm hole in a 2.7mm part was OK
I'm guessing a 1.5mm hole in a 2.1mm part would probably be fine on that basis, the difference in wall widths being 0.05mm

Thanks for the feedback guys -

I cant find 1.5mm magnets anywhere online, and we'd need to buy a bulk load, so 1mm it is! I got some to test and they will be more than strong enough with just a single magnet per component.

Its look at the moment like the Special weapons may not be done in time for the first wave, I will do my best though!

We got some new parts out of the Mold today - Veteran heads with Beret, Light Fatigue Torso, and the Weapon Accessory and Pouches sprues - I couldn't resist building up a test model!

I don't buy from Anvil anything like often enough. I've done a few orders but nothing like the amount that serious Anvil special forces enthusiasts buy. Someday I will pick up some of the anniversary Blacksmith minis though...

But, I'm always impressed with this thread, particularly with how responsive the Anvil team are to suggestions and other feedback, and how quickly they are willing to try out new stuff, see what works, test things out, etc.

@Arbitorian and Haigus- I read the suggestion (Gothic Space suits) during a long car journey yesterday and immediately got my sketch book out, I've come up with a torso/head/Raygun set which will work with the Armoured arms and legs from wave one to make a sci-fi gothic infantryman. I dont know when I will get a chance to sculpt the bits, but they are on the way!
There is no set "design ethos" for the Regiments range, rather the plan is to release a range of differently styled components which can be used to make all sorts of unique and interesting troopers.
ALL MY LOVE AND SUPPORT FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN.

Spoiler:

I am ecstatic about this news. I already use Anvil a bunch for my 30k SM, now I can use them for my 30k IG too!

I read on Facebook that you'll be offering these individually, as kits, and as "choosr your own" kits. Will the equipment packs be included or at least available as an option in the "choose your own" kits?

I know it isn't something that you would be able to do any time soon, but have you considered doing simplified versions of the kits? My thought is that they would be similar to the Afterlife ones where the figures are just two-piece kits with all of the gear and equipment already molded onto the figure. Maybe something like that could be a cheaper alternative to allow for faster army building. I know the idea of the Regiments range is modularity and compatibility with other ranges, but I honestly rather like the more simplified 2-piece builds of the Afterlife range more.

I totally missed the vote, glad 1mm magnet holes were decided on! If you can supply them without too much of a markup, that would be even better - maybe even just include them in the weapon packs (and obviously include their cost in it) if it's not too onerous?

I have found that folks are lazy and if you don't put the magnets in our hands, we're going to glue . But if people have them, they'll be more likely to buy more parts later, too!

My preferred aesthetic is definitely these guys from the prior page:

Can't wait to see the full range of options for these style of models

(Actually I can - take your time and get it just how you like it! We've waited this long, we can wait a month more to have it perfect )

Thanks all!

@MLaw - The old A.R.C were intended as the first models in the regiments range (which then didn't materialise until now) but they no longer match up to my quality standards so have been withdrawn.
I will be making a brand new set of bionic/robotic parts as part of the Regiments range at some point.

@Ian Sturrock - Of course.. suggestions and feedback are essential to improvement and providing what people want to purchase, which keeps us all in a job

@Bull0 - my apologies for the repeated delays.. I want to get it right first time, which means not rushing anything.

I have to pose and print the legs, then we are pretty much ready to go, so if all goes to plan - the launch should be next week.

@Lockark - Yep, and with a slightly more reasonable price tag!

@Barzam - The Add-On/accessory packs wont be included with the full kits as standard (to keep the price down for people who don't want them) but will be available to purchase at the same time as a full kit, at a reduced price.

It's unlikely I will do simplified versions of Regiments, but Its something I will consider in future, if there are particular "best seller" combinations which are significantly more popular it may well be worth making some two/three piece versions.

It would make manufacturing and shipping them out easier and thus, we could sell them slightly cheaper, but it wont be an immediate priority.

I like the two piece design of most Afterlife figures also, it works really well for the game, but for the regiments, keeping it modular means that at launch, there will be...

960 unique combinations of parts.. not including all the different arm/leg poses and head variants.

@RiTides -

We can buy 1mm magnets in for 5p each, to make it worth our while to repackage them, we have to charge at least 10p. It takes 6-8 magnets to fully magnetise a Specialist weapon (including the power plants), so we will likely sell a set of 25 magnets for £2.50.
Annoyingly, they are no cheaper for us to purchase than the larger 2mm magnets.

A good "half way" option would be to pick and glue on one power plant, and then just keep the weapon top halves magnetised.

You may be able to wait, but I cant, I wanted to release these guys by the end of April! So close now, I've decided to hold the Specialise weapons back by a couple of weeks along with a few other smaller parts, so we can get the core kits out asap for people who don't need the specialist weapons.

@IronBars - Thanks!

That price sounds fine for the add-on pack . Just as long as it's offered alongside these, and maybe is a suggested product when people buy things like the special weapons.

I'm thinking I'd only use a single set of magnets per gun (max two!). I know there are tons of swappable bits but don't want to go crazy

My main fear is people purchasing a lot of figures, and then a few weeks later- I release some new parts for the range which they would have preferred to purchase..

I'm going to try and list all the "coming soon" parts I have planned, so people can make informed choices to place an order or wait.

Once the huge Wave One/launch release is done (170+ unique components!) future releases will be smaller and more frequent.

Yeah, it helps for international orders to know what's coming so people can consolidate - a very nice idea, even if it's just a preview.

It could also result in people being even more willing to place an order - as they wouldn't be scared that the very next month something they preferred would be coming out (even if you just show a preview image of the different types of things coming, they can figure out which one they want to go for from that).

I figured if simplified versions were something that you would be interested in making, it would be a long way off. I'm cool with that. For now, I eagerly await wave 1 with everyone else.

I am also down for the 1mm magnets for the weapons. If thers a connection in underside and one where it connects to the stock they will definitely hold. I use a single connection of 1mm magnet in the wrists of my BaC marines to switch out special weapons and with just that one connection point at the wrist, it holds beautifully.

I think if you release themed sets or big waves like you're planning, people can't really justifiably be upset about something produced later. There's at least 2 other companies posting here that does like.. half a set, leaving people hanging then months (or even years later) they release things that are similar.. and people still are very happy with them. You've got a lot going for you and I really don't think you should get too hung up on that notion
That said, I'm really looking forward to that heavily armored set. I've got plans for that one.. oh yes..

This was one of my concerns about the regiments range - buying a bunch of models and then finding out 6 months later that there's a new head out that I prefer, ultimately that's on the customers, but I really appreciate that that's something you've considered and are planning for., a roadmap or some concept sketches/renders of what's in the pipeline would really help with that.

Or we could just magnetise everything. EVERYTHING.
