To be honest, my rust is a bit too orange, it shoud be darker. But I like it anyway.

I'm back and it didn't take me 2 months this time !
The game's author who's also a friend proposed on a forum that people create their avatar in Red Button's Nation's universe, then send them to him. And we'll use those models for the rulebook's illustrations.
Here's mine.
This is "me" in the game's universe. It's a Bamaka Eden model with a Hasslefree gun.
And of course, he's the driver of the car I painted previously.

Oh Lord I'm so busy these days, I barely have the time to update this topic. Not even speaking of browsing other painters blogs...
Thank you Gitsplitta for the comment. I should try to find some time to check your topic. I'm pretty sure I'm 40 pages late... at least. >_<
Anyway, here's my latest recruit for Eden :

Thank you all !
Last sunday I went to an Eden tournament and I played him. I had a very great time. I placed 4th on 10 players, and got the painting prize.
I posted lots of pictures on my blog, it's in french but well... you don't need to understand french to watch pictures. The article is here : http://code660066.blogspot.fr/2015/08/tournoi-eden-lantre-du-dragon-09-08-2015.html
One photo from the tournament, to make you want to see more :
Recently I also painted one Joker, for Eden too :
And the last model I painted is Father Grigore, for Kolaps :

Stunning again, that Joker looks awesome, the body hair and everything!! WOW, but the purple on the Father figure is the best for me, it looks like satin! NSS, (non-satin Satin) the more I look, the better it looks.

Non satin satin, excellent !
I'm happy you like it, because a satin finish was exactly what I was aiming for. But I didn't really know how to achieve this. When I started highlighting the purple, I was like "oh man what am I doing, I'll ruin everything". But I kept going on and in the end I got the kind of result that I wanted.
Gantoris wrote:Do you varnish your minis and if so what do you use?
Yup.
I always varnish my models. I mainly use Pebeo matt varnish spray for acrylic paintings. It is a really good varnish, easy to apply with a really matt finish. This is what I used on father Grigore. For Stipan, I used Army Painter varnish, simply because that's what I used on my other Jokers. Seems quite good too, but not as matt as Pebeo's one.

Your mastery of the color purple is impressive (and for all of the other colors as well). It would make me seriously happy if you'd post up a tutorial on how to do that metallic purple.
Do you have a hard time with that spray-on matt varnish? I know that there are issues with many other brands, which is why I still primarily use Vallejo's brush-on product.

Never had a problem with this varnish. Of course I avoid using it when it's freezing or when it's 35°C outside. But used with "normal" conditions it always worked perfectly fine for me.
The only exception is to not use this on soft plastic models like boardgames miniatures, Zombicide for example. These specific plastics react with some varnishes and become sticky.
Apart from this, no problem. I used it on plactic models, on metal models, on resin models, for more than 6 years and never had a bad surprise.
For the purple metalics, I'll see if I can do an illustrated tutorial. I can already explain how I proceed, the trick is to use Army Painter washes. Or previous GW washes if you still have some, not the current ones that don't have the same properties :
- basecoat with metallic color. I used bolgun metal.
- apply a purple wash overall. I thinned it down a little bit, and pushed it in the recesses and in the lowest areas to already have some color variations.
- now the idea is to have a color gradient with lighter colors upside, and darker colors downside. I use a blue wash first, that I apply in several steps. I concentrate mainly on the recesses and on the lower areas.
- now I use black color for the ultimate shading, especially on the lower part of the mask that I wnated to be really dark.
- last step is to highlight all the edges with silver
If I have the time I'll make a photo tutorial, I guess it will be easier to understand. ^^

I ask because varnish tends to really hurt my paint jobs and yours seem barley harmed by it at all, so far been using the Vallejo brush on stuff will give this Pebeo stuff a go.

Didn't notice specific problems. Except this varnish is pretty matt, so if you expect a satin finish you won't like it. I've read on forums that some people don't like the effect on metallics. But I think it looks good.
I'd just avoid it on models that I want to keep shiny, like lacquered armours and so. For instance, I don't use this varnish on my BFG fleet, that is painted with ink washes on metallic base. In this case I want to keep the glossy effect.

I find the varnish really screws with my highlights darkening all the details and adding am ugly shine even when i use matt. Heres my latest Gremlins, they are a good example of this problem...
Heres a pic of them almost finished, just need to do the hat tne base + varnish...
And here they are finished with the coat of matt varnish...

I'm glad to see that you're keeping an eye on my topic. I really have to find the time to check all the others P&M blogs out there, but my little girl made me become a really busy man. ^^
For my Blog, I've added a translator tool on the right of the screen. I don't know if it works perfectly, but it should make it easier for you to understand what I'm talking about. I'm curious now... why do yoghurts have french names ? Do you have examples ?
inmygravenimage wrote:You do love your purple! Would love to see you tackle Fulgrim
I do. Purple is one of my favorite colors, and it's really interesting to paint because it's not easy, and there are so many various shades of purples. I love it.

Oh I see what you mean. I also have brush on varnish, but I've always found that it shines a little bit in the end. So I don't use it anymore, I prefer spray varnish.
By the way, I love those miniatures, and though the pictures are a bit small, your painting seems to look pretty nice on them.

Does anyone know how long we have to wait before we can double post and not have our two posts merged together ?
Well, as I said I finished painting Hellion. This model is definitely great. Il love the way he looks, like sneaking in the city ruins... carrying a 2 meters long sword.
And with his buddies :
More about that game and how I discovered it on my blog. It's written in french, but I added the google translator tool, that's a good opportunity to try it.

Haha.
And Grigore also carries a shotgun... just in case.
We had our first game of Kolaps : Hell Awaits at our club last friday. The game creator was in our area so he came for a demo.
The game was fun, and seems interesting. I hope I can I try it again soon now that I know the basis of the rules.
