Aaaaahhh! The beauty of the choices available to us nowadays.

Take some Highland Moss Guard crew, add pith helmet heads and throw in some of Col Gravis' upcoming Steampunk heavies and no two armies ever need to look the same again.

That said I do like the look of the twin linked weapon!

I really like these- the heavy mortar in particular I can see me getting a few of for my Valhallans so I can have some proper medium artillery for my space-Soviets They look large and bulky enough to be used as a FW heavy mortar, which is what i want to use them for.

I am not planning on buying any of these, but I think it is pretty awesome that besides looking great they are designed to accept magnets for easy swapping. All models should be like that.

Great work Vic!

Love the Heavy Mortar...

BUT may I suggest that a four-barrelled mortar-style weapon mounted on that carriage would be awesome?

Any thoughts on whether use of the terms Heavy Bolter and Stubber will incite a GW cease and desist letter?

You know this is an Australian company, right? Have you seen the prices of GW in Australia?

As for prices, these beautiful heavy weapons are a bit out of my range right now, but a Thud gun would be seriously tempting for my Squats, quite a few of whom currently have or will have Victoria laser rifles.

Yay! Looks like I'm going to postpone getting that second Imperial Knight and instead expand the platoon some more!

Yay! I held off doing my Arcadians when I heard about the arms. I can't wait!

For what I'd spend on one Vic weapon platform I can get a set of the GW plastics, I get that people like alternate options but at that price I'd just get some death korps and skip the 3rd party knock offs.

I also haven't sprung for DK as they are bloody expensive. GW is already overpriced to begin with but at least it can be had at a discount from online vendors or ebay. These are priced too high for the standard player, you'd need very deep pockets to be able to afford to field enough to be worthwhile.

In my country I am thankful for GW pricing.

To get 3 of heavy stubber weapons (the best ones) with 6 Victorian Crew is only 10 dollars more expensive than the GW alternative which is pretty crap really. Unless you like Cadians or Catachans. But even then...

So I guess it depends on where you live.

Any chance there'll be a more modern looking carriage or wheels for these? The Heavy Bolter's sleek, high-tech looking design clashes a lot with the archaic looking carriage and wheels.

Quite. You can get a set of plastics...that everybody else has.

For those players who can afford them or want something visually different, companies like Vic's provide us with alternatives. I can't deny that it would be expensive if you go for the whole squads but you can use GW plastics and purchase a whole bag full of heads and make your army subtly different from others. For example my Storm Troopers use pith helmet heads. Other players have used the Scion torsos on the kilted legs.

As for the new heavy weapons they are a jump up in a price that I'm willing to pay at the moment but the kilted crew set will look good manning the heavy weapons I have coming from a recent Kickstarter.

I probably have a different definition of knock off compared to you but to my mind the quality of the castings and the effort that has gone into the design makes them anything but knock offs. Vic has developed a range of sci-fi humans which, although undeniably inspired by 40K, has given players a range of options that GW can no longer afford or be bothered* to supply. GW has not continued the effort it made with the 2nd Ed metals to represent the variety its own background tells us exists within the Imperial Guard.

For GW it's simple: the Imperial Guard is not a Space Marine army, hence not worth putting as much effort into. Just compare the two codex books, one is a love letter to the faction taking the space and effort to give all big name factions something special, the other is a joke that mashes everything together with the bare minimum of effort. The knife is given that extra twist when they talk about how diverse the faction is, that no two regiments are the same, they even give you a two-page spread showing nice art of those regiments, most of which are no longer available.

Yeah a shame that they decided to basically neglect the colorful regiment troops. it is mostly now just Cadians and Catachans, if they had plastic versions of the others, well thankfully other parties have made greatcoats and other regiments, the Tananbergs look a lot like the Mordians, so would be great stand ins, the other minis Victoria makes are also very nice factionals.

I had to mention that art on my blog previously as I think it is one of the most characterful pieces of art I have seen from the 40K universe.

I've also just noticed the lasgun cells being charged by the fire!

That 'Lucky 7' artwork is great. I'd love to have a squad with that look. Thanks for posting it.

I never have been happy with the way GW handled the fluff of the Necromundan PDF/Spiders etc.

I could get behind that look though... start off as gangers, then you get into the PDF/Spiders, then into the off planet IG.

The trooper still shows enough shades of a former life as a ganger while also looking like a veteran soldier who looks effective in the field.

The "Spyders" were the 8th regiment IIRC and the requirement for joining that one was getting a spyder tattoo on your face.

edit.

Wow, these are really nice. I love the artist's Osprey Books-style illustrations of these far future troopers. That Praetorian and that Necromundan are fantastic.

And the Thudd gun that's being proposed sounds like it would be another good opportunity for a neat heavy weapon. Now to find some play on "Nebelwurfer" for it...
