I am somewhat dreading Pariah when I get my hands on it. Ravenor is hands one of my favourite reads of all time. Its sequels are to me a downward spiral and sadly nowhere near as great a trilogy as with Eisenhorn. Still waiting for Dan to get Interceptor City done damn it. I really enjoyed Double Eagle.

My big guilty pleasure though has got to be those stupid Cain novels. Formulaic as hell, almost all using the same big unveils and surprises and the main character is a massive witch with absolutely zero character progression. And despite all that, they're fun to read.

I reall disliked Path of the Seer, it doesn;t help much it's 50% of Path of the Warrior either.

I enjoy the Cain novels a lot, they're the campier elements of 40k for me, despite my usual dislike of books being written in the 1st person narrative.

As for rav/eisenhorn etc, they always felt a little 2000ad to me, I enjoyed them, but something never sat right with them, not to mention the rushed endings.

Do you know when the novel's expected out? I'd rather know that than the cover personally...

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Chris Wraight so far, so I'm really looking forward to this and the direction they take the character of The Khan and White Scars.

The White Scars really shine at the Siege of Terra, so I really can't wait for that appearance.

Depending on who is writing this one, I'm sure it will be fun as well!

What really intrigues me about the Scars is that we don't know their character or motivation. We know they're loyal and like going really, really fast, but that's about it...

Have BL ever made any of the limited edition books more widely available?

And is there a place to find a complete list of them from past releases so I can keep an eye out for them in trade and on ebay?

Some of the stories have been reprinted -- say as part of an omnibus for example -- but only after a few years have gone past.

.. 4 or 5 years perhaps ?

This page : http://www.blacklibrary.com/exclusive-products/Collectors-Editions

lists all of them AFAIK... I don't recall any others immediately anyway.

meanwhile :

http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/xenos-hunters.html

http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000/mission-purge-mp3.html

these appear to be new/forthcoming.

I have high hopes for the HH White Scars novel - was it Andy Hoare who wrote the existing two 41M Scars novels? Those were absolutely terrible - I'm glad that anyone except him is going to have a go.

I'm currently battling through Fear to Tread, it really is a battle. The writing is so terrible I can't seem to get to the end of a page without realising my mind has wandered and having to go back and read it again.

Really? I'm 3/4 through Fear to Tread and I put it right there with Know No Fear, one of the recent books that was pretty good.

It's certainly better than the disappointment that was Mechanicum or either of the Dark Angels HH novels. I gave up on the second one.

I have come across at least 5 typos so far, though.

If you don't see at least ten typos in a Black Library book, be afraid.....

I really should pick up Fear to Tread....

I just finished Descent of Angels and it didn't seem so bad to me, Zahariel was pretty likeable and the events regarding Caliban and Luther were entertaining enough to keep my curiosity, is the second one a big step down or are my standards just pretty low?

I like Mechanicum and the Dark Angels novels too, of course I also like the Raven Guard book so I might not be the best judge of books .

I need to pick up the new AdMech book that came out last month, has anybody read that yet?

By new Ad mech book you think of Priests of Mars ?

If so, yes somebody had read that.

The part of this thread one must wonder is, there is not much debate about the 2 hardbacks, ( angel of fire / priests of mars ). So what is this White Scars publication going to be? Expensive, for sure ( 40 € ).

Just started fear to tread.... Less than 40 pages in and scratching my head. I might be wrong, but weren't vindicators a post heresy invention? Also lots of common mistakes like vice being used instead of vise. So far just reads like a documentary of a battle report. I liked flight of einstein, but struggled through nemesis both by mr swallows, so another long way to o til the next hh book comes out.

Wow - I thought Know No Fear was amazingly well done, but really disliking Fear To Tread. Not the plot or anything (I generally don't have a problem with the plot of any of the HH novels apart from maybe Abyss) but just the writing itself.

I thought Mechanicum was great, and liked the first DA novel, but the second one was awful.

I'm not a big fan of this particular change to the Blood Angels' history or cause behind the Black Rage either. It was not good back when it first appeared in the HH card game/background books, and it hasn't gotten any better with age.

I'm guessing that might make enjoyment of this book difficult, but I can't resist a book in this series, so I'll pick it up as soon as I can...

i'm reading Priest of Mars right now, and really enjoying it so far...
it seems to have a little something for everyone...

Angel of Fire was great, but ended very abruptly, leaving me jonesing for the next book...

i've almost finished Wrath of Iron...
Wraight is getting better, and more visceral, almost like he's taken a page out of A D-B's book...
i like it...

still have to finish Fear to Tread...
not a bad book, but not a page-turner...
luckily, i'm a Blood Angels fan...
i'm also pretty easy to please, i mean i actually liked Battle for the Abyss...

cheers

I once heard from the horses mouth that it was meant to be 2 years. But, not completely sure now, how long was it that Aurelian was released?

Haha me too! I'm a firm believer that every HH book has something for someone, but also helps to illustrate the Pre-Heresy universe in some form. For BfTA, we saw the divides that already existed between the Legions before things went pair-shaped. The Dark Angels books showed us a world before the coming of the Imperium, and has given the Dark Angels some actual background (and reasons for the skeletons in their closet - beyond being closet homosexuals.. )

The only book I have not enjoyed in some form was 'The Primarchs', and I can only really judge it on the first story, 'The Reflection Crack'd', beside being the most pretentiously titled BL story ever, I thought was so bad that it then ruined the enjoyment of the rest of the stories in the book! It read half-way between a collection of B-sides, and halfway an advert for ANGEL EXTERMINATUS, which I'm not at all surprised to see posted earlier on in this thread as a forthcoming release.

Iron Warrior was the first limited Novella re-released so far...
it came out in the Omnibus, and is available as an ebook...
not sure how they will re-release the future Novellas, since they won't all fit the Omnibus release format...

not started The Primarchs yet...
it's sitting on my desk, waiting for me to finish Wrath...
i think i'll read Reflection Cracked last...

‘The Underworld War’ for The Mark of Calth anthology is winding up to completion, too. It’s about the Gal Vorbak left on Calth after Kor Phaeron flees, and they’re slowly coming to terms with the fact that Lorgar isn’t coming to save them. They’re trapped there. They’re going to die there. Night after night, the Word Bearers lose more men to Ultramarine guns.
