I love me some hardcover books, but the black library books lend themselves well to the paperback style...

A lot less purchases for me due to this.

I've purchased about 7 Horus Heresy books in ebook form because 1) they were kinda cheaper, and 2) it was a way to use my kindle fire (as I was still getting used to the ebook thing lol...

10 dollars for a HH book, 9 for the ebook? Um... why bother if it's not going to really be worth it for the ebook...

I have several plastic tubs of paperbacks that I recognize are in a weird emotional orbit in my life. I want them. I want to find time (Ha!) to reread them and enjoy them again. I want to loan them out. I want them enjoyed.

But...

I also want the space back, And time to read them is just not going to happen. eBooks have helped here, as it's a reader I almost always have with me (I use my iPod Touch, but to each their own...) I caught myself last week reading an RPG book from the PDF while the hardcover was literally in the same room. it was just easier.

If publishers atrted offering older books in Kindle and other eBook formats cheaply ($1-$2 per book for 20+ year old titles), I'd probably buy a bunch just to save the weight.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Is the advertised release date (such as Jan for Angel Exterminatus IIRC) for the hardback or paperback? I presume hardback, but I don't want to wait 'til March for my next HH fix).

There is to be 1 hardback 'limited' release per month. Next month it is the Flesh Tearers novella. Not all books will be released in hardback first

Jan is the paperback release of Angel E.

Just finished reading my WS novella. Very nice, quite poignant in a way I guess. Certainly seems like there's soem set up for a later tale.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Awesome. Thanks for the good news, Red!

So the hardbacks should be released, like, what? Now?

I used to be the same way but in my case it was multiple bookshelves both in my apartment as well as at my parents (for the really old books that I read long ago and didn't need). Moving several times in gradschool and the years afterwards definitely cured me of that. The boxes of books were frankly the most numerous and especially the most heavy of anything I had to keep lugging from place to place. After settling down, I just switched mostly to library and coffee shop books store reading despite now actually having the room in my house to store it. If I really like a book, I do tend to buy it afterwards though as well as pick up some of the compilation books out there (like the Commissar Cain and Gaunt's Ghosts ones).

..yes.

It's out anyday now, AFAIK they were selling them last weekend at Warhammer World.

I thought it was OK (although not one of Neil Robert's best).. until I saw and was reminded of the classic piece above.

Not even in the same league in terms of artistic merit. And it shows how flashy CGI effects are no substitute for decent composition and the expression of character and mood in artwork.

Agreed, I honestly don't like many of the Heresy covers and their are a proper couple of poor ones, especially the new White Scars one, they just don't seem to have the personality or energy as I guess the hand drawn ones.

The Emperors pose bugs me on that, but I do like how they have shown more of what is going on and Sanguinius actually looks the right size

The original is certainly my favorite although i do like this one as well

Just had a thought... What's Dan Abnett's next novel for the HH series?

Isn't it another Ultramarines novel, or at the very least a short story for the Calth anthology? I know he isn't doing the Alpha Legion sadly.

The only known upcoming HH books & products are:

*Betrayer by ADB. Will be about Lorgar and Angron (Potential for fantasticness, especially with the author!)
*Mark of Calth (anthology)
*Garro: Sword of Truth (audio book by James Swallow)
*Burden of Duty (audio book by James Swallow, about the Knights Errant)
*The Sigillite (audio book by Chris Wraight)

GW has slowed down the series greatly, releasing limited edition novellas, audio dramas, and anthologies at every turn to milk the franchise. Abnett is more of an epic novel kind of guy where stuff actually happens, he should do the Siege of Terra book(s) imo.

Of course the last line of the last book (probably released in 2030 by this point) being "I was there the day the Emperor killed Horus"

Currently reading the e-book for Angel Exterminatus:

Spoiler:
I'm enjoying it so far. Perturabo has always been tied as my favorite primarch (the other being the Lion) and I'm liking the depth Graham is trying to put into him. Only 25% of the way in though so things could change (like in Fear to Tread) but so far it's pretty good. Something interesting is the nods to Storm of Iron and some of the characters from that book during the Heresy.

Dan: Next for me is The Unremembered Empire, which is a direct sequel to Know No Fear and takes the Ultramarines (the survivors) back to Macragge. Then again, Aaron’s (Dembski-Bowden) Betrayer is also a direct sequel to KNF, so KNF is a bit of a branching book. The interweaving is getting more complex and the pace is picking up.

The pace is picking up?

I wish!

Somewhere else, BL is 'quoted' as saying "We've got a long, long way to go!", unfortunately!

Still, looking forward anything from Dan and Aaron!
