So... presumably this is a 'trade paperback' version? Do we know what the delay is for publication of the regular paperbacks? I'm going to cancel my pre-orders and wait for the normal paperbacks.

.. Well Bls' line is that there is no delay for the paperback/same as we've already been buying versions, rather the super-duper new and shiny format ones are in fact being released early.

.... YMMV here....

What didn't you like about it Brook? I rather enjoyed it myself, I know it didn't give much or add anything to the Heresy but I liked the way it was written and the characters were rather neat. I also liked how their was differences in the legion.

One thing I wasn't so sure of was how long they were actually on Chondax, they seem to have been on there a very long time or no time at all.

Is there a written source that says Ullanor ended at x and Istvaan V happened at y, as sometimes the scale on these times seems to be a bit muddled.

I'll preface this with saying I am aware that these novellas can't have anything too heavy or revealing, otherwise the BL offices would be burned down by the angry fanbase, but this novel was in my eyes really lacking. It could have been sold as part of the Primarchs or another anthology novel really, which is a shame as I really, really like the author's fantasy novels.

Here be spoilers regarding the Brotherhood of the Storm.

Spoiler:
The Khan is always at the centre of the storm, decentralized, this there never is a hard core for the enemy to hit when an attack comes. He's never to be found when people want him to, but he has a habit of popping up whenever needed.

But really, to me they came across as a Legion that has merely traded in its horses for jetbikes, can hardly speak Low Gothic, has an even harder time reading it and enjoys warfare for the sake of fighting.

There's also the sub-plot with the newly founded Munitorum, what's so special about that? Is one of those characters from a Graham McNeill story, as is alluded to in the acknowledgements section in the rear. If so, what gives? Why even mention this? Is it just so they could shoe-horn in the scene between the Khan and Horus with that line of "When I have need of you, can I rely on you?"

What made the Khan go for the Emperor's side in the end? Am I missing something here?

I thought it had become a rule here that when mentioning ANGEL EXTERMINATUS!!! you have to use all capital letters and at least 2 exclamation marks?

Also, that you play the evil-sounding backing track from the movie 'The Omen' (the one that plays every time the kid does something evil) when you say write or say ANGEL EXTERMINATUS!! ?

It doesn't really strike me as something Sanguinius would do, he always struck me as a humble and honest soul.

I'd imagine he'd give the traitor a big manly slap then take his fleet to Terra. The whole thing is likely some grand scheme on Guilliman's part, not something that his brothers are actively involved in. Guilliman is loyal to the Imperium, not the Emperor. I doubt most of his brothers would would react well to his plans. Given that Sanguinius manages to make a stop in Guilliman's little traitor empire and still make the big showdown on Terra, it seems that the usual excuse that the Ultramarines couldn't get there because of warp storms is out of the window.

There will be another White Scars novel coming out, most likely in 2014:
UNNAMED WHITE SCARS NOVEL - Chris Wraight - ???
Following on from 'Brotherhood of the Storm', Jaghatai Khan makes up his own mind what to do in the Horus Heresy after Chondax - it's not the answer everyone is expecting. Also links to 'Garro: Sword of Truth' and explains why there were traitor White Scars near Terra.

I REALLY hope this isn't what it seems. I REALLY do. I don't mind the authors "changing things up" in order to keep the material fresh, or to provide the readers with surprises. After all, who wants to read 30+ books about a story that we all already know. But, come ON Black Library...at some point, you have to remain true to the source material.

Also, I think that the whole, "Black Library stories are different viewpoints of material presented in the official GW publications" garbage is just an excuse to put your own spin on something, rather than work WITH the established material. For example, Captain Sicarius is described in the Space Marine Codex as a heroe's hero. The stuff of legend. But, he is the height of ego and vanity in the novels. I know, he needed to be different, so that Captain Ventris could have an antagonist, but seriously? That is COMPLETELY different than a "heroe's hero".

"Well, Sicarius would appear like the stuff of legend to everyone outside of the Second Company..." BS. Professional soldiers, especially Space Marines with hundreds of years of experience, would be able to spot a vainglorious bastard like Sicarius a hundred lightyears away. "But, he is the ultimate warrior..." Right.

It just seems to me that after so many "fresh takes" on the existing fluff that everything is getting confused. Even the authors are making mistakes, because they can't keep all of their changes in perspective.

Don't get me wrong. I am MORE than happy that the HH is doing so well. I am MORE than happy that so many titles are being released. But, I am getting tired of the changes and confusion. Milking the series for all its worth is also understandable. After all, the company needs to make money. But, releasing Special Edition Super Audio Books, with 300+ pages of Never Before Seen Limited Edition art, about the Emperor waking up in the morning is not helping, in my opinion. In fact, I think it is hurting the overall stroy.

I can still remember when a box of 30 Space Marines was $30.00. Now THAT'S old school! In fact, I started playing in the Rogue Trader days...yes, I am that old. Played Warhammer Fantasy for years before Rogue Trader even came out...

I'm a bit confused of this Unremembered Empire thing. It is obviously during the Heresy because Sanguinius is still alive, but why do they think the Emperor is dead and why don't they ever verify it? This seems to be making a lot of leaps.

I think we're the ones making a lot of leaps until we know more, to be fair.

I'm not liking the sound of what they're planning, but what do we really know about it thus far? Very little.

Personally, I'm going to wait until we know more or have read it myself. The 3-month later paperback release could be spoilerific for this novel in particular, though.

Well we don't really know what it says in Codex Astartes, maybe Robert Guillman has a caviat in there for what happens if the Emporer is presumed dead based on uncoroborated evidence?

Could be a reference to the "empire" the Ultramarines are sent to destroy or create by Horus in his false orders.
