Unremembered Empire looks odd. For me Sanguinius has been a disappointment in the HH books. His Legion are supposed to be badasses but he comes across as a hanger on who is there to soothe the Primarch of the moment even though he's a freaking mutant. I'm concerned that it's Dan Abnett writing it as I can take or leave most of his books. They are ok stories but then it's all rushed unfulfilled endings. I am suspicious that the last we saw of Guilliman he was at Calth and stabbed by a knife that was warp touched and possibly poisoned and this could all be some trauma induced fever dream.

As for the thread of which books are relevant to the main storyline, the Garro series hasn't done anything relevant to the conflict yet although that could obviously change as more is revealed. I'm wondering if Garro himself is going to set up the Ecclesiarchy after their 'group' is split up following the Heresy. I mention this as the Garro stories are very popular but not central to the conflict.

I haven't listened to the Garro audio dramas (!), but... don't we already know what Garro is going to do, following the Heresy?

We'll see. Seems to me we're going to learn a lot about the Codex from this -- and thus also the subsequent 10,000 years.

As far as channeling K_K ... before I ever read his sigs, I summarized the HH thusly: the Emperor kills his favorite son for killing his favorite daughter.

I'm thinking that the Word Bearers (and possibly a sprinkle or two of Alpha Legion and World Eaters) will have a lot to do with Roboute not joining the fight at Terra.

Whoa whoa whoa. This isn't an alternate timeline or history. This is the same timeline and history. It's just something that was expunged from the dim records of this tumultuous era.

I have to admit, I have that joke - I really do!

Sanguinius is a badass, and should be written as one - and seen as one.

In the stories that I first read, his sacrifice was fairly awesome - he knew what was going to happen (I think!) and still did what he felt he had to do. Especially as, at least according to the Blood Angels, it was his sword strike that weakened Horus' armor at a critical place? Or something like that!

Whew.

For a second, I thought BL were starting up some sort of Ultimate Marvel there or something along those lines...

The novel does apparently involve a superhero-style battle. Meaning (a) flying Primarchs fighting amidst skyscrapers, (b) characters that won't stay dead, or (c) all of the above?

Like the background of the picture. That's about it.

And yeah, I am wrinkling my nose at the whole concept of the story.

In other news, I'm still making my way through Fear To Tread's audiobook. It really is awesome and I think the audio does suit James Swallows storytelling more than page. Which isn't a huge surprise, really....

It'd be pretty funny if the story ends with him becoming Emperor, then you realize it was just a hallucination and is Sanguinius dying after fighting Horus.

Well yeah, but you could say that about almost all of the HH characters. Plus we only think we know what he's going to do because of the audio dramas.

If I read the whole thing and find out after 350 pages I just read a dream story, I think I'll have to back out of the rest of the HH series. Seriously.

Tbh, I'm already liking the discussions Unremembered Empire is creating.

Seems to have a pretty negative reception already though!

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

I'd love the idea of Unremembered Empire if it wasn't holding up the whole HH series. They really should have finished the core series then added onto the mythos, making it a setting for books in and of itself as opposed to just a book series.

Also I have a lot of reservations about the concept. It don't see how Guilliman and Sanguinius/all of Ultramar (and apparently most of the loyalist Legions) think the Emperor is dead and immediately crown Sanguinius without even consulting Terra/Malcador/and so on. Really, this would have been a better concept as a post-Heresy story where the remaining loyalist Primarchs try to recreate the monarchy given that the Emperor is kaput.

Either way, I'm looking forward to UNREMEMBERED EMPIRE - something new that should be very interesting!

If nothing else, it plans to significantly alter the history of the Heresy as we know it!

Yes, well The Internet is rarely happy with anything it gets but I don't think the outrage will be any more than all the other Internet outrages that failed to destroy the Galaxy.

Given Mr. Swallows' statement in White Dwarf

Spoiler:
That Garro is NOT a Grey Knight.

I'm not sure we do.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
