Subject: Re:n0t_u's Painting Blog - 13/6/2013 - Wraithguard: Third about halfway done and dice arrive!
Well here's the third Wraith using Vallejo paints instead for the blue. I kind of messed it up when I used electric blue in the mix instead of magic blue, which is like mixing in ice blue when i needed a darker blue like enchanted.
But saved it with some glazing. Currently it's just after the highlight stage where it'll get another wash to blend them back a bit and the gun has yet to get its first one for the same reason. As I get better at blending I probably won't need it to smoothen the transition at all.
And here's the dice, which are also the first package to arrive that I had ordered online all by myself. It may seem like I got them for the Eldar, but actually it's the other way around a little since I like these dice and ordered them anyway I figured I'd try to tie the theme to them a little better which is one of the reasons I skipped out on the blue and white theme earlier.
Hesse just keep getting better and better. The gems in particular really popped out on this last one.

Well the compressor for the airbrush sucks and doesn't work so ditching the idea of learning to airbrush on the wraith guard and just going to finish them the way I've been doing them. I'll get a decent one later and use it for bigger stuff like vehicles and knights.
Not much at the moment, just finished putting the blue on.
Now to darken it and mess around until it looks ok.
Well I finally got around to cleaning up that first post. No more humongous wall of links as contents, it's now focusing on the pics already there for each section with the contents of them tucked away in spoiler tags.
Worked a bit more on this Wraith.
And as this squad is coming to completion I'm thinking of what to do next for the army. I could strip some guardians and paint them up in the new scheme. Though I am also tempted to try and build a web way gate, purely a terrain piece. Though it depends on what craws out of the webway.
Looking pretty darn nice nOt_u a good scheme for them and I like the gold heads, looks mystical :-) your gems are nicely painted too! how do you like the Vallejo paints? I find them really smooth and easy to use, just make sure you wipe the tip of excess paint when you're done or you can have an explosion! :-) and we don't want that!

Thanks The blues flow much better than the GW ones definitely, so much better. I'm thinking of making the gold a touch lighter on them though to get closer to the dice. The Vallejo metals any good? Could mix with silver I suppose, but it feels a bit washed out?
I already had squid pink for the Daemons though, learnt from that not to let it rest on the side at least.
I do know the GW burnished gold when mixed with a tiny amount of mithril silver blends up to a nice pale gold for highlighting, but i haven't used any other metallic brands yet.

I have a pot with a little burnished in it if you want it? you can then try it out and see if you like it? it's what i used on my Sanguinary Guard models.

the way nerdy put it made me cringe a bit...would dropper bottles really be able to bust due to temperature? that would be horrible... one of these days I planned to change from GW to dropper bottles... it is just that I have to order them and that is keeping me off... I still like to get some sort of stuff by actually walking into a shop^^... (bits of course not included in that train of thought^^)
and your wraith guards are coming along very good... tho I still lament the white being out of the scheme
Also this showed up today, already put it on the base and got it ready to prime. But I had a thought. Since I'm using it as a spirit seer, anyone think I should sculpt the face so it has the same type of helm the actual model has? Or just leave it as it is.
I would have to say sculpt over the face and make it more wraith. Or cool idea, do it only for half. This is for fluff reasons, you can pm me if you want a full explanation.

I've already started on it, so a little late for the half idea. But feel free to explain here if you want, I could always just use it for something else if I like it.

Well here's the "leader" of the squad mostly done already.
Going to try to give the head a scaled pattern, leaving a blank mask for the space with an emblem for the craftworld. Like this I did ages ago, but only good. Also I'm thinking maybe instead of the light blue I should use gold.
Leader is looking great, any chance of a profile view of the biker?

It's probably a bit late now, but for future reference I've found that Mithril silver washed with Seraphim sepia gives a nice gold result. It's what I did on the mail skirt for my Deryliss (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/488816-Deryliss.html?m=2)
I've been away for a while, but gosh what a thread to come back to. I really like the Eldar scheme. Are you planning to make them a display board like you did your daemons?
Thanks. It's not really too late, I only just picked up some VGC polished gold today anyway, so I think I'll still give it a try and compare the two. Yep they will get a display board, I already have the foam cut for it, just need to get around to gluing and painting.
As for other things, FLGS was having a nice 20% off sale. Didn't have the Eldar stuff I was interested in, but it was a nice chance to order in a new case for everything and also since they offered 30% off spartan games stuff I picked up the Republic of France naval battle group. Funny thing about it was a friend was trying to convince me to start WHFB at the time, which started with me looking for a Magenta just to paint up. They had none there and we both left with a starter of it each.
Nice! I've just gotten into Dystopian Wars too, actually. There's a group that plays at a shop near me. I played a starter game there with CoA, but I'm leaning towards Chinese Federation as my first nation.
