[b] . I decided to resurrect this thread instead of starting a new one. The new army starts on page 2.

Ok, got the first 5 based. I think Im happy and an army of these guys are going to look good. Still need to get a fine detail brush to finish the faces.

Congrats on the score, pretorians are great. Cool to see you experimenting with other colors than the traditional red.
Love the green/bone test-scheme. I think it would look absolutely amazing in bulk.
Your current scheme seems like it could quickly blur into a sea of bone-white, too little contrast on the figures IMO.

sand colored praetorians... now that is a nice idea...also the green from the earlier post would be a good different scheme as well...
one thing tho... mouldlines...you have still some on some very obvious places...the paintjob looks very seriously good, but those ugly moldlines ruin the whole look...

Thanks for the comments gents. The green did look really cool but I felt it lacked something. I hear you on the bone white wash out. Ill see how it looks with a whole platoon. That's the good thing about the old metals, a quick simple green bath and they are good as new. Will work on the mold lines too. I may try a different base too.

I like the color scheme. Used to seeing them red. Everytime I see a Praetorian army, I go to Zulu.

@Gorgrimm- Im the same way, its a great movie, Try watching Zulu Dawn too.
@palehorse- Funny you say that, Ive seen a guy on Dakka with a Zulu army.
@swampyturtle- Appreciate the compliment sir, more pics coming.
I decided to paint the trouser stripe to give them a more "dress uniform" appearance. I think it works out really well. Also does away with some of the mould line problems. The lines on the pith helmets will be a beating. I mostly cant see them until they have the light undercoat. Anyway, finished the first squad and they have the look Im going for. Hope I still feel this way when the first platoon is done.

looking good there... although i have to say... as you did the legstripes...i wonder how it would have looked if you used a dark red like mecharite red instead... it is by the way my favorite color^^
as to the pithhelmet moldlines...these are the main reason i even mentioned them...

@Victor- Ok, I was thinking of a way to differentiate the various squads.
Here is the red for Heavy Weapon Squads. Ill carry it through, see how it looks.

Great work so far! I, too, like your atypical color scheme.
By "carry it through" do you mean that you will add the red stripe to the whole army, or that it will be your HWT scheme?
Keep it up!

Pricey little force youve gathered up for yourself. I love the Praetorians. I recently bought a lot that included both Vostorians, and Praetorians. I want to eventually do an IG army but could only hold onto one of the forces. I ended up going with the Vosts because theyre readily available.
Great work so far. Subscribed.

@Rawson- I want to use subtle colors to represent different specialties. White is Infantry, Red is HWT, maybe blue for Vets. Just some way to give a dressy uniform distinction. Thanks!
@inquisitorlewis- you aren't kidding about the price. You want praetorians on eBay you better show up ready for business. Vostroyans definately have a lot of character. And if you mess one up converting it won't take months to replace. Good luck with your army And thanks.

i don´t think blue stripes would work tho... black stripes or maybe even golden ones... and the idea to distinguish the platoons is quite a good one!
by the way... i like the red stripes... they came out very good!

@Viktor- Glad you like the stripes. They worked out really well.
The first HWT is finished. I am going to put them on a 60mm base with the weapon. Im trying to decide exactly how to convert the HW's themselves, I was thinking of some magnet thing with plastics. Keep the carriage though, it matches the Praetorian thing. I had considered going down the same path as the Col. Gravis guys, but its not grimdark enough for me. Not to say they arent the best Praetorians I have ever seen, just want to go a different route.

Thanks again Viktor.
Now, decisions. I like the dead grass, but I dont love it. I am trying out pure GW Glade Grass and a light mixture or grayish grass from Gale Force 9 and GW Glade Grass. The mixture looks just like Burnt Grass from GW. Go figure. Also first Platoon CS finished.

FAIL. I guess not deciding on the base confirmed my nagging feeling. I like this scheme, but I dont love it. Back to the drawing board. This is why I havent started the Forgeworld Pre-Heresy army. Decisions, decisions.

I have no idea. I'm going to try a few paints from Privateer Press. Coal black looks nice. I may just hold out to see if the new paint rumors are true. I will try something with the red though.

Ok, I started playing with the green again. This time subdued instead of bright. I am leaning towards the guy with the gray base. All the colors are kind of earth tones. The guy with the white looks good, but not right somehow.

Hey 40kFSU,
I've come out to checkout your blog! Nice find btw! I'm liking the sechem too! For the bases I'd go anti GW. For the HW use magnets for different options! How about casting some of the peiced in white metal or resin? Hey how about you check out my blog too? (Link is in signutre). I'm loving your stuff man,

hey 40kFSU
Im liking the new color scheme. It reminds me of a regiment i was reading about the other day when researching the zulu wars. I wish i had saved the link but the color scheme was excatly what your doing with your green. They were noted to be the sister regiment of the 1/24 of foot that was at the battle seen in the movie "Zulu" if i remember correctly. Kinda wish i saved the link now.
I'll be watching as ever

Apparently I just wasn't able to make this army happen. Not sure what my problem was on this one. Anyway, I got an offer I couldn't refuse and the Praetorians are on their way to a better home and probably more able painter. I appreciate all the comments and interest. I am turning my interest back to my first love, the Space Marines. I have temporarily settled on the Minotaurs. Cool FW stuff. Anyway here is the test model. Im looking forward to this, never done a metallic army.
