Some more work has happened, depending on how focused I am able to stay on painting then I ought to have this done in a few days really.
I'm currently holding myself ransom - I've sworn not to allow myself to work on my new Daemon army until I've actually got this thing table top ready.
A couple of new touches are visible here, most notably the checks on the eye port. They came out pretty well.
A close up of one of the glyphs - you can also see some of the battle damage I modeled onto the Titan right underneath it via some bullet holes made via pin vise.
Here is some of the cabling - I used real copper wire...and now I have painted it so it looks like copper wire again
Painting this cable yellow...I may go back and make it a black/yellow striped cable...I'm not sure yet. I sort of think black/yellow stripes are very 40k though so, y'know, I should probably do it.
Another panel of checks and also a chance to see some of the painted Ork passengers.
Checks, rusting and battered gear, and poor attitudes - it's an Ork party alright!
I'm not done with the Orks yet, but I am getting there and should be done soon.
I do need to add some battle damage to the railing of the platform as well - but it is coming together nicely regardless as it is giving a good vibe of just Orky general threat
The Grot strawboss - I was originally going to blacken up his face from the exhaust of the departing Grot Rokkit, and now I am debating if I wish to do so.
Meh, one way or the other he is basically done.
So, yes, a lot of the base work is done here.
Still need to finish up the Grot Rokkit and reattach it.
I'm going to add some smoke from the exhaust pipe, but that's an easy operation.
Lots and lots of little details - I have to keep reminding myself I don't need to paint every single one.
I predict about 2-3 more days and completion. Fingers crossed.

I've already done more painting since the last update, so I like my odds methinks.
Today my plan is to hopefully finish off the Grot plane/rokkit and also manage to hit a few more detail points along the rest of the stuff.

Oh man, getting so close!
I sometimes think that all projects go through an interesting timeflow;
1. The initial stages when you come up with the idea and buy supplies, ect. (high excitement level.
2. The process of putting it together and painting it, wherein you hit all the obstacles (low excitement)
3. The point where it is clear it is almost done and you'll be able to put it on a tabletop soon (high excitement)
I think Stage 2 is the reason that I (and probably a lot of other people) have a lot of half-finished projects.
In any case, I am NOT done yet...but oh man, it is super close. In reality, I am basically down to painting a few details (Ork eyes, cleaning up a few messy spots, putting battle damage on some of the pretty paint sections, adding a bit more weathering to a few areas).
That said, I am ungawdly close at this point, and pretty much any update after this will just be the 'I'm done!' post methinks.
So let's have one last update prior to completion.
WAAAAAAAAAGH! The Orks, WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
My mushed Grot - I still need to add some blood smear here like when you swat a mosquito.
The Ork party on the steam boiler engine - because the optimal place for a large concentration of troops is atop the power supply.
I did do the black/yellow bands on this cable.
Grot rokkit away!
The Grot strawboss and the bosspole.
Whot, dat part? ...dat's ours beakie! No, dunno whut 'appened to your little armored Rhino whottzit.
This sucker does have a pretty big footprint.
I'm going to add some black to the smoke/steam effect, and battle damage to the railing of the crow's nest.
Some of the other boyz drove a Trukk over to the workbench to help me with some size compares.
An Ork boy, Ork Trukk, and Ork Klawtater
My unpainted official Stompa also trundled over to check out its mate, still shorter, but still a bigger footprint on the battlefield, and certainly not out of sorts size wise.
So, just a little bit more and I can wrap this sucker up.
And then get started on my Daemon army...

Started up my daemon army, and it's including a number of new adventures for me.
I suppose my first admission is that I'm making it all with non- GW stuff.
Call me whatever you will - I want a sexy daemonette army. I want it to be curvy and sensuous and lethal and I think the current daemonette line is ugly as sin and doesn't work with the mental image I have for what a daemonette is. Therefore I went the obvious route and hooked up with Raging Heroes for their awesome Preying Mantis line which are perfect 'counts as'. I will actually admit I sort of like the Masque model...but it's actually mostly for her dress and that she looks like she's dancing as opposed to standing there like a lump. I mean, seriously, could they have sculpted more boring poses for the regular ones? So...maybe I'll snag The Masque...maybe not, we'll see.
See? Sexy and deadly and also looking like they are dancing. Thor approves!
Currently I have 20 of the ladies assembled and basecoated (only 40 to go...)
They assemble pretty easy, but they are delicate since the connections are so fine. I will definitely be paranoid about other people handling them.
Not a daemonette, Leilith is just here because, hey, she needs a white basecoat too. Plus, I've been sitting on this model for *ages* (it's a metal one, as a bit of a hint as to how long I've had it).
As long as I'm painting up Nettes may as well do Lelith too.
Courtesy of Reaper, here is one of my Daemon Princesses.
Another daemon princess courtesy of Mierce Miniatures. I like the snake aspect of Fulgrim's daemon princehood and wanted to emulate notes of that in this army.
This and the next model also represent my first real adventures in resin.
A 3rd daemon princess, this one a Pleasuredaemon from Ultraforge. A bit Pamela Anderson-esque in the chest region for my tastes, but otherwise a really amazing looking model.
I love the face on her, it just has such bemused contempt for whatever she's currently crushing.
Another look at the Gorgor model - the tongue will be an eyestrain to paint nice, but will be awesome.
A bit of a size compare with a handy Ork lad waiting to get an arm reattached after an accident in a recent game.
And here's one of the whole mess, all three princesses, a Nette, the Ork, and Lelith too just for good measure. I will certainly have some size varyance in my Princesses ranging from bigger than GWs to smaller...but, meh, I'm doing this army more for fun and look, so if someone has an issue fighting them they can always play against my DE and I'll slap them around for being whiny.
As an additional adventure, I'm also using resin bases. These are built to accept some water effect stuff in them to create pools, and the intention is for pools of blood for the Nettes to caper in.
Close up of a 25mm one, based black.
So, next step is getting 20 'nettes and 3 princesses attached to their bases and ready for painting.
I do have more 'nttes to do as well as my Keeper of Secrets model.
So, hopefully next time I can show you either that stuff, or a bunch of models with some paint on them (I'm planning to use a lot of washes for this army so it should *hopefully* go relatively quickly despite my propensity for doing slow work.

Got a lot of painting done over the last few days, which is pretty magical considering my slow habits.
This is a lot of the basic Daemonette look and is the scheme for the army. It is basically a white base coat, then a bit of work with a toothpick to add 'spots' in chosen areas (I am still playing around with it, but it' basically along the inner thighs, lower back, and belly, across the chest, and along the hairline)
I then do a pink wash across the dot areas and also to add lowlights.
Then it's a purple wash on the 'spiky bitz' and hair.
I still need to pick out the eyes, lips, and maybe do a bit of shading on the cheeks and around the eyes. What is holding me off there is trying to decide exactly what colors I should use to pick out those points.
Also I'll be doing some armor bits in gold - each Nette has a shoulder guard and a half brassiere that will get that treatment.
Started up doing one of the Princesses too - this is just a really attractive model, and though I am a terrible painter it is still a lot of fun to work with.
'Dotting' and some musculature shading on the back.
I also worked up a base addition for the Pleasuredemon model - what decent Daemon army won't be standing on the corpses of dead Space Marines?
Also finished assembly and base coat of my Keeper of Secrets - Eurylia of Kyr-yss from Mierce Miniatures. Lots of little futzy bits with this model, but still really attractive. I still need to work on bending the whip before attaching it.
It shipped really well, but after assembly I realized that part of the chain over the left breast had snapped off somewhere along the line. Kind of annoying because I'm not sure what I can really do to replace it - any thoughts?
Yeah, one of my Princesses is basically the size of my Greater Daemon...meh, she looks awesome, so I don't care. But I am liking the overall vibe of the army even together, and once they're painted I think they'll really feel cohesive.

Admit it, you're just going to be happy for some Daemonic allies
But thanks for the kind words, I am hoping to get it all painted up before Thanksgiving - at least 1850 worth of it (which, is a pain for Daemonettes because they're cheap as sin, but the DPs thankfully eat up a lot of points really easily.

I am planning on some Seekers. Currently my plot involves some Goblin Calvary (GW, I'll admit) and then the Fiendish Offspring riders from Gamezone, which are gorgeous looking models and very Daemonette appropriate.
So, don't worry, yes, I'll have Nettes mounted on spiders methinks.
I also have a plan for Fiends of Slaanesh that will also be spider themed to help tie that element together. I'd hoped to be able to use snakes, but my miniature hunting skills failed me, so spiders became an acceptable secondary solution.

His paintjobs will put mine to eternal shame, but I do love that army, you're right his Nettes look great.
I do feel you on the painting, I can be pathetically slow at it sometimes, I usually need some goal or deadline adding pressure to me to get me to sit down and work at it semi-regularly.
Also, just as a heads up, I did the math, your Titan needs to be finished prior to February 2015 in order to be done in less time than mine. And I took about two five month breaks...

I still have about another 13 Nettes to paint (they sit mocking me in their unbasecoated way while we have a lot of gusty and rainy weather meaning I can't really be using spray paint outside this whole week.)
I suppose I also still have quite a bit of painting to do on 2 DPs and the KoS as well...not to mention my Fiends, and the Seekers. Uf da!
But, in any case, the current batch of 19 Nettes has moved forward again;
So, I have the armor done up, and it really does add nicely to them by putting in a touch of on white/pink/purple.
I do still need to figure out the coloring for their eyes, lipstick, and maybe a bit of blush for their cheeks.
I'm currently thinking either purple or blue. I'm worried purple wouldn't *pop* enough and I'm worried the blue might pop too much. I would love to hear any color theory thoughts on what accent shade might work the best there (I'll be doing lipstick on the lower lip with probably a small point of bone white as a highlight point, and I want to add a bit of color to the cheeks because they're so nicely sculpted and I also think it will really help add definition to the face)
I'm also debating if I want to paint up the Nette arms with some black along the "blade" to make them look more horn-like. I'm not sure my thoughts there.
In other news, an awesome friend has offered to allow me to hunt through his bitz box for an appropriate Slaanesh item to put on the KoS - I will provide an update once I figure out which piece wins.
Also, did some more work on the one Princess and established blue as an accent color for my army.
Blue made a lot of sense to me as an accent mark as the white/red of pink becomes red/blue in purple - making the color sweep of the Nettes White -> red -> blue on a sliding scale which gives me a pretty solid palette to play with. The ability to pull in blues and reds will also leave me a lot of options when painting up some of the cloth textures and other odd bits on the Princesses models since they have a lot of bits the Nettes lack but I want them to all be able to gel visually through a limited color palette. I may not be that brilliant at painting, but I have found a limited color selection tends to help pull an army together visually, hich I used to solid effect with my DE army which always gets oohs and aahs when seen as a single large piece, but more guarded responses when seen on a single figure basis.
I'm shipping out of town again soon for work, though will be back for Thanksgiving again, so it's a short jaunt. My hope is to have the other Nettes basecoated by then, and also to have started work on another Princess - I can already tell the DPs are going to be what slows me down on this painting job, I've actually done a good job of streamlining the Nettes so that they go pretty quickly despite their numbers.

This blog is actually a pretty good mental tool, because it's nice to be able to show that progress is happening...I will also admit dead time between jobs helps as well...
I am still unsure what to do for makeup, so I opted to do work on the bases. The very last steps on these models will be, after the varnish, that I'll add some water effects to the bases, tinted red, so that my ladies shall be cavorting in pools of blood as they dance their way through the slaughterfields.
Playful innocence atop the fields of the dead.
I did a mix of two types of resin bases, so in addition to fields of skulls I also have fields of corpses for good torn open blood n guts effects.
I also laid down a base coat of gore red which I *think* will help the water effect blood pools by adding a feeling of greater depth to them.
Also started dotting up this daemon princess.
I'd like to draw your attention to the barbs stuck through the flesh on her leg here - oddly, this Reaper mini and the Raging Hero minis *both* use this effect on their female demon models. I dunno...maybe there's some undercurrent of female demons shoving barbs through their skin? Fascinatingly the Mierce miniatures model I'm using for the Keeper has the same motiff again - I didn't plan that aspect at all, but it's an oddly effective theme that will further help pull the army together into a cohesive feeling whole. So I'm pretty chuffed for it.
It's still kind of weird that three different sculptors making different models at different times from places across the globe all went with that rather specific fetish theme though - I feel like I missed out on something somewhere along the line.
Not to be outdone, the Pleasuredemon also requested her dots.
Dots along the lower back.
Dots on wings.
Here are my high tech dotting tools. My technique is still really bad, and the tutorial I stole the idea from blows me away, but it is a cool technique, and I like the effect it's getting me, even if it's a limited version of the actual full technique. But, hey, it's still pretty fancy to my usual methods.
Thought I'd share some other things on the bench still waiting to be worked on. Here's a Nette with a daemonic instrument - in this case a fiddle, which I suppose she saws at with her hand blade.
And one of the naughty bent over Nettes looked the most stable to carry this very nice looking if pretty heavy icon - I suspect I may need to add a washer counterbalance to her after basing, or maybe slap her on a bigger base...not sure which I'll do yet.
I also have this other Daemon Prince model I bought...
Thing is...there's bit of a size problem here. Even I, who field old style Gorkamorka Ork Trucks without any shame at all, have to admit she is rather too tiny to be a good prince model. At the same time, she's rather too freak huge to serve as a Herald.
So...I dunno.
My current vague idea is to get another, smaller, female daemon model and put them on the same base (with some rocks or something for height) and refer to them as 'the twins' and count it as a DP that just happens to have two models on its base. I think that's a good idea, although I am struggling to figure out a good model to be the other twin.
I'm not sure what else to do with her, honestly.

I'm excited too and hope it comes out relatively close to what I envision.

I think this is what will happen - a local player who plays a lot of Chaos and is awesome has offered me the chance to flit through his bitz box, so I think that's what will go down.
In other news I was out of town working for about a week but will be back working at this again soon. There seems to be a fair number of daemon players telling me to simply elevate the tiny DP and then she'll be legit. I did some looking around and did realize the official DP model is actually not all that tall in the grand scheme, oddly the snake-woman DP model is surprisingly close to the correct height. I think I was looking at my Plaseuredemon model and thinking of it as 'correct' height when it is, in fact, rather massively oversized.
So the current plan may be to just elevate the mini princess on a skull pile and call it a legit counts as. Feel free to weigh in with any screams of dissension if you think that seems non-legit.
When I get back I should be able to manage to base coat those waiting Nettes and start processing them through.
I also need to put in an order for my mounted Nette riders.
And still have a fair bit of work to do to get the Princes up and to standard.
Then I Should also start considering the painting of the Keeper, which I'm both looking forward to and dreading in equal measure.
But I am really focused on the idea of getting a fieldable 1850 fully painted build of this up and done *prior* to Christmas, so we shall keep plugging away.
Besides, after that I should probably start getting some of my latest Kickstarter stuff, and then will have a new job to work on...

I was hoping to get these ladies up and ready for a batrep in an ongoing campaign I'm playing with some friends.
But...best laid plans of mice and men, so I didn't meet the deadline and instead just fielded Orks because...y'know, ORKS!
That said, when I thought I would need to make the deadline there was some definite progress, so it's probably time for an update!
First up some Fiends of Slaanesh 'counts as' courtesy of Reaper minis Bones line. I'm...not sure if I like working with the resin they use for Bones, it's actually pretty wonky and fights against paint in my opinion, so I'm really nervous about working on some of the really tiny details like those chains on the abdomen and stuff. Time will tell, but I'm not sure what I'll do there exactly or even how it will come out looking.
My Daemonette with instrument. The white marks on the violin are actually just light reflecting off the Chestnut Oil I used on the violin wood - in real life it looks like highly lustrous polished wood, which is exactly as it should appear.
And, yes, I get the potential 'polished wood' joke, I'm just not sure how to make one without it coming off too skeevy, so I'll just reference it in abstract and try to look clever that way
My rapturous standard is also pretty much done, I just need a bit of shading and highlighting on the cloth and a bit of basic cleanup...okay, so not even really all that done, but I wanted to feature it anyway!
This Daemon Princess also nears completion, the Reaper metals are quite nice to work with overall though there is a fair bit of cleaning to do to fit pieces together the detail is really quite brilliant.
A little cleanup work and some final details (face, sword grips, final armor highlights) and this princess is totally finished. Really happy with how she's looking right now.
I like this model, but am still at a bit of a loss as to what to do with the wings - they're definitely not where they need to be right now paint-wise.
The straps on the legs will get painted blue.
I need to also do a bit of cleanup here, but will wait to do so after I give the buckles a bit of metal treatment. Pretty happy with a lot of this otherwise.
Here she is with her base. As per usual, when I have dead Marines they are of the Ultra variety. Partly this is because it's quite simple to paint and is easily recognizable, and also because...hey, screw Ultramarines
I do like the look here, and once all the elements have finished being painted I suspect it will pull together really well.
My Keeper also got a lot of work done.
Well...marking an item off my bucket list, I'm going to be able to say 'paint the nipples' in a serious way;
I do still need to paint the nipples and also add in my fix skull to the broken chain, but a lot of the work here is nearing finished. She is going to get some color on her lips (ice blue with a touch of white highlight I suspect) and also her eyes.
All this photo really does is scream to me about the part of the cloth on her hip I missed when painting it, egads! I also still have a number of minor doo-dads down here to work with, nets, bottles of elixers, et al. But, at least, a lot of that is 'fun' to paint and can be done in little manageable steps.
I don't think I'll hit my 'before New Year's' goal anymore. But I really see no reason I don't manage to finish it prior to Feb of next year, so that's still pretty shockingly quick and efficient for me in moving an army from 'freshly bought' to 'fully painted' so I'm still pretty enthused by that!

The forces of Slaanesh arrayed against you...or at least against my worktable.
Yup, as you might be guessing from this shot the army is (mostly) finished. Currently I'm waiting for the realistic water in the bases to dry, so after this should have a 'blood' update, and then the army is (again, mostly) good to go. There are some other units still to finish up and add to the army, but at the moment it does exist as a reasonably functional force that i can field at 1850.
Take a bow, ladies.
I'm coming at you, loyalist!
Just as a matter of pride, I do feel the need to note that the white highlight on the lip is painted on - aren't I an impressive boy
The Keeper of Secrets, replete with her whip now.
Soooo many buckles to paint on this model.
I will admit, as a man who probably owes it to himself to man up one day and attack mould lines, that shoulder could have used more work. Ah well... I am pretty proud of the face though.
And my custom basing.
Did I mention anything about the number of buckles on this miniature? I mean...seriously.
The Reaper model came together nicely too.
Even if she has a bit of an attitude...
The Gorgor model also came out well.
Some stuff that I'm still working on (and, frankly, still need to buy another 1-3 of them...thankfully Reaper sells them for only about $7 a pop) but my Fiends are still being worked on.
I had an idea to add a pattern to the thorax and then was like - hey, just make it the Slaanesh symbol. Maybe I'll mix it up for the others and do a Chaos symbol and maybe some other appropriately heretical markings.
So...soon I get to find out how I did with applying the realistic water. I am suspicious I didn't put it on thick enough, but have plenty left for additional layering.
Still feeling good for my self-imposed Feb deadline.
Looks like my group may even manage a game in early Feb. and maybe I'll bst the ladies out for their first taste of fully painted action.

The ladies are now dancing in blood!
I did add some red ink to the realistic water to give it a red hue of its own. As some online guides indicated, you really didn't need to add much.
Tip-toeing through the gore...
Backsides and blood, what isn't to love?
Obligatory shot that had me realize I had got some blue on a skull...derpa!
I did end up having to do a couple of layers - partly because my initial application was indeed just too little, and also because I really feel like the resin soaked up a lot of the 'juice'. Which seems like crazy talk considering it had both been spray primed and then also sealed...? I dunno, maybe it was just flowing into little crevices and fooling me that way.
I liked Realistic Water as a product (it's Woodland Scenics) I did notice that it tended to kind of 'crawl up' things it was put near, basically as it dried it would sometimes bunch up on a foot or something, which I would have thought with the small surface area wouldn't have been a problem.
Also, because I tinted the stuff, I ended up shaking it...so...yeah, I probably could have waited a bit to get the bubbles out. As was, a bit of patience nd a toothpick solved the bubble problem for me, but probably could have saved myself some stress if I'd done the ink mix the night before and then did the pours later. But I was impatient!
Still, cool product, very easy to work with and do cleanup for - not remotely as difficult to work with as I'd feared.
And that's pretty much Phase 1 of the Slaanesh army finished! Huzzah!

So...I had a new visitor to my army workbench;
She had a lot of buckles and straps, and was a little shy;
So, yes, I now have a model to run as some sort of super daemon of Slaanesh. Maybe Zarakynel ? Maybe just a custom built number? Maybe something else? I dunno - but she looks awesome, and is also feth huge;
I do have a couple of additions yet to do on her. I'm going to add some dancing Nettes to her base, and also give the skull cracks my blood treatment to help tie her in with the rest of the army.
But I'm pretty happy about this as a showpiece addition to the army.
Now I just need to gird myself to paint an additional 30 daemonettes

I did themed objective markers!
Baby Khorne.
Baby Tzeentch
Baby Slaanesh
And the cutest of all - Baby Nurgle.
Uh-oh! Baby Nurgle made a boom-boom!
Also finished the basing on my big daemon.
Apologies for the blurry picture, but here are the dancing gals.
They've been dancing right through the blood pools.
My last thought is maybe to paint a symbol of Slaanesh in blood on either the ground or on the black skirt of the daemon, and add some bloodstains to the fingertips of the dancer in the pink dress. But - barring that, this job is fully complete.
