I had a feeling those bits of metal in his gut would look better painted up. Also that splash of gore is perfect, really well done.

Bull Gorg looks AMAZING!!!! I've seen many other people try to do it but no body does that underhive scum any justice. yours is just so impressive it looks like it can take on a whole gang alone. Great work

Love this blog, i'm working on a little gang of ny own mainly as a fluff project and there is loads of inspiration here. Also it's nice to find someone else who files their green stuff work. We give ourselves a hell of a job doing that, I'm thinking of moving to milliput if I think I might have to file something.

I use diamond needle files but they clog up eventually, I have a few that need scrubbed down. What do you use for the job?

When I bought my cable maker I added some of these to the cart to try and justify the ridiculous postage costs:

http://www.masq-mini.com/aid-239-Profischleifset.html

It's basically fine sandpaper but in a sponge rather than paper and I am sure it exists elsewhere cheaper but they have been amazing and I think they will change so much about how I work. You can get completely smooth finishes with them. I was worried at how scruffy Bull Gorg's stomach/shoulder pad looked after sanding but when undercoated you could see it was completely smooth.

I might get some of those too when I finally order the tube tool. Thanks for the tip.

In return: Have you looked at the Mr.Clean Magic Erasers? Similarly to these sanding sponges, they are fantastic for getting smooth surfaces on GS and for knocking down the shine so that you can see your details better.

Bull Gorg is awesome. If I hadn't already used my Nurgle Lord, I would definitely borrow the idea from you. I especially like the shoulder pad. The weathering and fading of the stripes is immaculate.

Yeah I have used mine a lot since getting it, plus you can use all the excess GS that might go to waste otherwise to make cables. I did see someone make cables using a comb though, and I do think that the cable maker seems horribly expensive for what it is.

Have you looked at the Mr.Clean Magic Erasers?

Hmm I'll keep an eye out, I don't remember seeing those before in the UK but

I've had quite a lot of success (compared to earlier results) using watery liquid GS painted over my greenstuff areas and then sanded with these sponges to get a nice smooth finish. I am not a GS expert though by any means, but I like using liquid GS over regular GS as it helps tie everything together and lets you see the details more clearly too. But I am always on the lookout for better techniques.

I actually realised how awesome those tubes look and immediately ordered the tube maker! Now I will have to redo some conversions though!

Brut, that's cool, i've developed the same techniques with my work. It's nice to know I'm not the only guy sculpting like that. It makes more sense to me to return to a sculpt to file it back and return again to get a finish on the surface.

I've even went back in with pva or gloss varnish to get a slick finish before but not for a long, long time. It was quite effective but I prefer my current methods.

Can't wait to get my tube tool, I've needed one for quite a while now. Great piece of kit.

I've never really considered myself a very neat sculptor but I think I am happy with the finish I have got now. The sanding things were a revelation, but maybe I had just been using the wrong tools before.

I can't shake the feeling that there must be a cheaper way to make those GS tubes though. I saw this the other day - maybe worth trying? http://homeofcadaver.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/kill-it-kill-it-with-fire.html

I think your GS skills have improved considerably of late especially on the last few models so don't be hard on yourself, as for the alternative shaping tools my dogs have a hell of lot of Combes there shapes might work well for this ………just don't tell the misses

Chiming in late, but I agree with everybody else, bull is adorable (in a disturbing and terrifying way).
The attempt at a sweat effect is something we don't get to see very often. Thinking outside the box, I like that.
Your new approach yields great results, stay on that track. I can't imagine painting any other way anymore.
In this case it really contributes to the whole unwashed look and constitutes the grimy and gritty flavor of the underhive.

I don't have any liquid GS from Games Workshop. I do have some stuff from Squadron, but it is solvent based, and dries quite hard. I may give it a shot. I'll let you know if I do.

As for the Mr.Clean product; I thought perhaps that brand would be available in the IK, sorry. Essentially these are meant as cleaning sponges, but what they are in reality is superfine sanding sponges. Check the cleaning products isle, you may find an equivalent. Here is the product page for the Mr. Clean version. Might help ou find a local one.

As for alternatives to the Tube Tool from Masq-Mini, I found this from Green Stuff Industries. I've not tried them yet, so no endorsement on my part. Since it will be significantly cheaper to acquire this than the MM Tube Tool, I will eventually get it to try out.

You'll have to excuse him for looking a bit shiny, I used water effects to give his skin a glistening, sweaty effect and it doesn't photograph so well, not sure there is anything I can do about that with the limitations of my camera. I wanted a real horror movie vibe and I am pretty happy with the horrible unwashed skin. I guess it is hard to use a loofah with chainsaws for hands.

This is pretty much my first attempt at painting in a new style, essentially starting with a white undercoat and using washes of colour to paint in the shadows rather than build up layers. I think I am getting the hang of it, it's much more fun than traditional painting, it feels more organic to me. I haven't done his base yet, I have some plans for a new style of basing, just waiting for a few parts.

Ok, sweet model. One of the best conversions of this I've seen. I was gonna say 'how does he wipe' on first inspection, but a monster like this has probably left such trivialities long behind! I love it!

Been meaning to post here for quite some time: That Bull Gorg is simply fantastic, Bruticus! To tell you the truth, I didn't even like the JB artwork of him in the first place, but you really took the concept and ran with it.

Maybe my favourite detail about him is that, even though he is this huge, misshapen lump of muscle, the look on his face in the third image from the top makes him look like he still has this strange kind of digniity...does that make any sense?

Anyway, astonishing work, as usual!

This is one thing I love about Pit Slaves and I think I wrote about it before - you can imagine them as these terrifying beasts in the arena or in a battle in the underhive, but the rest of the time they must be as helpless as children, unable to clean or feed themselves even. I figure the techno has to repair them but also look after them and ironically the most fearsome ones - the ones like Bull Gorg with no hands - must need the most looking after. Mind you he probably had hundreds of grateful liberated slaves all eager to look after him.

the look on his face in the third image from the top makes him look like he still has this strange kind of dignity

Yeah that's the thing about Bull Gorg, he is basically a champion of the people - he liberated a bunch of slaves and led a fairly successful rebellion against the guilders (basically a grimdark Spartacus). I figure he is actually an intelligent, conscientious sort of person. Although it's going to have been hard for him to appear all that noble when he is quite so violent, all those pitfights against dudes with chainsaw hands must have taken it's toll. I ended up giving him a bushier beard which I think makes him look less sleazy than the illustration, the hint of grey and the broken nose makes him look surprisingly dignified.

I really think that nurgle model is over used

I think it is a bit over used because it is such a cool model, but I wanted to join the Nurgle Lord club after I saw the Blanchitsu with all the Nurgle lord conversions. I won't have him in my Inq28 retinue as I think the base model is a bit too familiar and it's already been used to great effect by most of the champions of Inquisitor. I'd rather not compete!

Thanks for all the nice feedback by the way everyone.

The Bull Gorg looks amazing he really gives off a dark horror vibe. I think the head is a perfect fit, it took a few seconds for it to click that it was based on the Nurgle Lord as the conversion work is flawless.

Looks fun playing with the Space Hulk tiles.

Here's the latest addition to my Inq28 warband. He's a slaver who uses this walking contraption to get around (out of laziness I think). Roughly speaking his background is that he is a eunuch and former harem guard who killed his master and took over as a slave trader. He has connections to Slaanesh cults and is considered both an asset and a suspect by the Inquisitor.

Still a lot more to do but the general idea is he will be quite opulent and depraved, like a decadent Roman. He'll have a few more ornamentations and servo skulls around his contraption but he himself will be quite plain, just a white toga and pasty, powdered flesh.

He doesn't currently have any hands, I am not entirely sure what to do. I would rather they were sort of folded in his lap or holding grapes rather than guns but I think it will depend on what podgy hands I can find. The GS work on his quilt is also just very quick, will add more layers to it next.

Very cool! I like the idea of the hand-throne-spider to carry the corpulent beast.

The GS work is looking fine (as always), but one thing... the hands. The idea is excellent... is there a plan to make the transition from spider-leg to hand more seamless?

... I think I need to start making non-standard figures and get on the Nurgle Lord FW Nurgle-stuff bandwagon. Everyone is making such awesome with it.

I picture the hands as being like brass or gold decorative things stuck to the end of each leg. Except also I guess they work a bit as the fingers are in different positions. I can't recall what gave me the idea but I am sure I have seen this somewhere before... like clunky mechanical parts but with delicate hands, maybe in white gloves, maybe playing a piano.

There will likely be some wires but otherwise I think I will keep them roughly as they are. But I will add some other similar bits of ornamentation elsewhere on his contraption. I really wanted some of those cherub servitor things to go with him, they are a similar sort of delicate machine.

This is the finecast Festus, as soon as I saw him I wanted to de-nurglify him. I really like models that have different builds - I wish GW would do more fat guys, thin guys, short guys, maybe even the occasional woman!

Bruticus your mind is of the rail with this one, great use of the miniature completely captures your concept he could almost fit into a roman scene.

The sentinel seat and legs combined is a great idea, I was not keen on the hands as feet at first but it is growing on me bit by bit.

Nice work maybe add a whip thing for keeping flies and stuff away, like you see in the movies looking at him I could imagine he would be surrounded by flies.
