If the game were optimised the lead dev wouldn't be promising a big optimisation patch in January now, would he?

Let's not forget the motto emblazoned all over the weekend double xp event r.e. 'our growing pains'...

Might as well toss in some evidence:

No, really. What a genius idea. I better put that plan in to fething action right now.

What do you think I've been doing, sitting at my desk staring at Planetside 2 decidedly not working for the past few months? Seriously dude? If you're just going to be a jerk about it, why even bother responding?

Gyaaah... I'm going to have a rage aneurysm.

Alright, got a character on Cobalt now as well. Corporal Kyone reporting for duty!

Focusing on the combat medic role + transportation via Sunderer APC, although I can safely fly gun- and dropships as well. I also tried the Mosquito, but without a joystick it's fairly hopeless to attempt to fully utilize this nifty fighter's superior maneuverability, so all I'm good for in one of those is close support for ground forces whilst praying the enemy has no airpower at all.

So we got no game discussions going? Just inane outfit chatter and Melissia getting patronised? Are none of us actually playing this awesome game?

K I'll get a ball rolling...

NC Assault Rifles; though I'm sure that being on the receiving end'll make people claim they're great, I think that the default medic 'un, the Gauss Rifle, is just crud. Some people will come out with 'l2 aim' but it seems to me that the NC niche is mid-range; up close we get pweened by the likes of the CARV or Vanu Pulsar but far out we can't even hit folks. Yep... outdoor combat and CQC we don't do so hot.

So I traded mine in for an NS-11a... common pool gun. Great bit of kit but I could swear it's been nerfed lately; it used to feel like a laser beam, sort of like the ACR on CoD:MW2 but I find it has quite the shot dispersal now.

If I'm to nominate a faction I'd like to play as on the basis of them handing my arse to me, though, it's gotta be the Vanu. The Scythe handles like a real beauty and not needing to compensate for bullet drop or low bullet velocity must be a dream with those guns...

R.E. Optimisation I must say it's been getting better lately. Actually managed to re-enable shadows with hardly any drop in FPS after the last patch. I'm averaging about 25-30 in big fights now where I was getting 15-22.

I find it funny that (at least on Watson), even though the TR seems to have a 5-10% advantage in population, they seem to constantly get pushed back.

The only continent I ever see them do well in is that more jungle one, Amirsh I think. (I havnt learned the names yet, I know them as the desert, snow, and jungle)

TR vehicles are largely inferior to NC, and very inferior to VS which means even if they are good it usually takes them a while to absorb a push and start to push out again.

I'd definitely say I covet Vanu's vehicles... Scythes dance circles 'round my Reaver (though a Reaver can apparently be flown 'right') and the Magrider's ability to strafe and skim down cliffs has me green with envy.

As for TR vehicles... I've never driven one on an alt so I can't really say. Prowlers do seem very easy to take down with my Breaker Rockets though, just takes one salvo from the rear... but Magriders seem no more durable. Naturally I've never shot at a Vanguard!

Aren't those dual cannons at all useful? It's a bloomin' pain when I am an infantryman to survive the first blast only for a second to immediately follow. Prowlers take me down far more than Mags.

not particularly, the recoil is a little high so its very difficult to make use of the extra rate of fire at medium - long range, and the prowlers special (seige mode) makes it impossible

In reality the prowler is better if you have the opportunity to mix it up with the tanks and really get in close, as its faster and you can hit with both (weak) shots, i've actually blown up 3 magriders and a lightning w/ an AP + bulldog prowler in one rush because i got in behind them and I can drive around faster than they can turn as long as there's no terrain.

But you're looking at something that takes pretty decent skill, no look driving and sneaking around with a TANK, compared to just pressing A or D and 75% of shots will miss you.
rockets I haven't had much success with, I wish planes were more dive-bomby rather than hover-and-rapey

Yep, Terran republic!
I'll re-post the squads now and people can pick which squads they want.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here, just so people now during battle we clarify the squad by the codename, as an example the shock squads are India and Juliet.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
i imgaine it would have 3 battalions
-1st infantry battalion
-2nd armoured battalion
-3rd airbourne battalion

each battalion with 4 squads
-1st infantry
-tactical squad 1 (alpha)
-tactical squad 2 (bravo)
-support squad (charlie)
-defense squad (delta)

-2nd armoured battalion
-engineer squad (echo)
-transport squad (foxtrot)
-transport squad 2 (golf)
-heavy squad (hotel)

-3rd airbourne battalion
-shock squad 1 (india)
-shock squad 2 (juliet)
-gunship squad (kilo)
-air-superiority squad (lima)

Although I do love to incorporate 40k into everything (minecraft, Lego, women....) I believe that this thing should get it's own squad formation.

Do we have that many players online that they warrant dedicated transport formations? I figured that APCs (from a pool of drivers that are online at the time) might best be firmly integrated into an infantry squad to make it mechanized, and then have the driver either disembark with the troops or man one of the guns formerly occupied by the passengers to provide covering fire.
Depending on how many drivers are online, surplus personnel could either man the guns on a Sunderer or switch into infantry role, essentially having a double profession to be performed as needed. This way, you don't have to assign and reassign people to different squads all the time just because someone just came online or quit. Plus, drivers can better follow "their" passengers on the map and move to support them or pick them up, rather than driving around randomly and having squads mount up on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Tankers have it somewhat easier, as they could form dedicated armored spearhead formations or provide escort for the Sunderer/s without having to leave their vehicles or units at all.

squads act together, so transport squad 1 would work with tactical squad 1 and same with 2. the only squads with dedicated transport are the shock squads.

I can see lots of confusion arising from this in the heat of battle, but it's your call.

Does this mean that the infantry squads will be really huge, or that a transport squad means only 1-2 guys?

Made in ie
Screaming Shining Spear

good, point...

maybe the infantry will be big, our the the transport will have 2 guys in each sunderer, so 3 sunderers. the driver will be incharge of each sunderer but the gunner wll be navigater and in charge of communications.

Or maybe, like many outfits, you'll struggle to have more than ten people online at a time and ultimately the vast majority of your ops will be formed on an ad-hoc basis with people doing whatever they feel like doing that day..

I think making an FoC is taking 'keen' to the extreme. Practically suspending reality even.

I mean how could you think that in all practicality people would honestly expect being bound to being 'Sunderer Gunner #2' because the FoC says so?

thats only when we are assigned to our squads. we wouldnt be constantly assigned to squads. and some days i might tell people to hop on some flashes and speed to the enemys base. but if people want ill abolish the chart.

I run in the biggest outfit in PS2 as far as I understand and we generally split into multiple platoons and zerg when needed.

I can see a big benefit from always having a tank around and tactically moving, but beyond that, drown them in bodies.
