If a guardsman misses his target (perish the thought!) and hits a wall instead, what kind of mark does the lasgun 'round' leave in the wall? Would there be a pock mark/bullet hole type thing or a scorch mark? Perhaps a combination of the two?

I'm fine drilling or cutting little bullet holes and pock marks into a wall but I'm unsure how to paint a scorch mark. A cursory search on the web shows two main types of scorch, one that is fully black and fades outwards into dark greys and one that does the same but has a much lighter shade in the epicentre of the scorch. Has anyone attempted this sort of thing before? Pictures would be great.

since its a laserbeam i would think a scorch mark. idk if you have an airbrush but if you can make a small star stencil and keep it at about 10mm from the surface you want to create the mark on and give it a small spray

Or just stipple on a combination of black and grey... I think technology can be taken too far sometimes

From what I understand of Las technology, it would be a combination between a bullet-hole, and a scorch mark. Think of Lascannons, their ability to lance through armor is unparalleled. On the smaller scale, the small arms fire is designed to blast through a target's flesh and then puncture right through the bone.

IMHO the mark would depend gratly on the surface. On a heavy armor I believe it would leave just a scorch mark (and pehaps a minor scratch). I have tried to recrate this effect on a predator and I opted for the scroch mark. On a wall I would have opted for a small blast.

Enyo (Greek: Ενυώ, English translation: "warlike" in Greek mythology; Roman: Bellona), was an ancient goddess of war, acting as a counterpart and companion to the war god Ares. She is also identified as his sister, and daughter of Zeus and Hera in a role closely resembling that of Eris; with Homer in particular representing the two as the same goddess. As goddess of war, Enyo is responsible for orchestrating the destruction of cities

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I was a bit too tired to think properly about this when I posted the question, now I've woken up a bit and read your replies the mark plus scorch seems like the most sensible option.

Burn Marks. Like shooting a little fire ball that also leaves a bulls-eye hole in the middle. So just a black scorch mark with a little hole.

I remember reading somewhere that Lasguns were able to put fist sized holes in concrete.

I'm pretty sure those were bolters.

In any case, I don't remember where I've seen, but one of the past GD winners had it down pretty well and convincing. I'll see if I can dig it up.

QFT, since the lasgun does have some penetrating power.

Given the rather tenuous physics of the lasgun, you would be dealing not only with scorch marks, but also physical damage due , likely, to small-scale thermal shock at the impact site, so the likely you would have radiant cracks, rather than a full-blown impact site like you would find with a solid or explosive projectile.

Stippling and Airbrushing are very different, I think people can just be afraid of technology sometimes! (Airbrushes arent new tech btw theyve been around some years now)

Wow... not quite a year between posts here

I'm not afraid of airbrushes, I just don't think that the first suggestion should be to go out and buy a whole load of new equipment, unless the OP is looking for advice on buying airbrushes.
