I'm starting a kickstarter to raise money so that I can pledge into this kickstarter.

Donations anyone? So mad that I'm broke right now. grumble.

I'm sure I can find a use, even if just painting, for some of those models.

I seem to be blind... where is it mentionned what you can get for swapping Sophie ?

I think the material is actually one of the strong points for these mini's. It allows them to have sizes available that would be unfeasible in a heavier material, and you could probably even drop one and it would survive.

While the material is softer than usual, it is strong and won't snap or break like resin.

I like to think of them as a sort of Fantasy action figure line, collectibles like all the old toys I used to have as a kid, except with the added bonus of I get to paint and work on them, plus they have excellent detail.

The most recent update video says you can swap her out. Basically you get $25 to use on whatever add-ons you want.

For me that’d be the Frost Wyrm ($10) and the Hydra ($15), because I have no real interest in Sophie.

I agree. So far everything they've done could be done in resin or metal, but it's far sturdier and more resiliant in Bones.

I love the heft of metal, but the price of Bones wins for me. Also, for large and/or fiddly models, Bones is ace!

Also, it's not really that bendable. It's flexibility only really comes into play with really thin items like chains and spears and those are the areas where you most want flex because with metal, plastic or resin, you can get breakages. With Bones you just get bend.

Having met some of the fine people at Reaper Miniatures and been to their Denton, Texas facility, I can say that this couldn't have happened to a more dedicated and miniature-hobby-friendly company.

I have more than my share of Reaper miniatures that I've painted for D&D, and I can't wait to get my kick starter haul!

Well I was a backer for 2 days then I watched some video reviews of the bones range I hadn't realised how bendy and soft the plastic used is whilst it holds the detail great it's just not a material I'm interested in even at such a great bargain price so I'm out best of luck to Reaper hope they have a great surge right at the end and you all get many many more minis.

The paint stays on. The detail is amazing. Does it really matter that if I intentionally push on his weapon, it moves a bit?

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Yep it does to me that's just my opinion and that's how I feel about the material no point trying to change my mind my $125 won't greatly affect anything. As i said great deal best of luck to them hopefully lots more stretchs and minis to go for all

That's cool. I was just worried you might be missing out ona great deal because you though the paint might come off or the detail wasn't as good or soemthing.

The only think I don't like about the material is that mould line removal is taking about 50% more time. I'm sure I'll get faster once I get used to the material.

I have to admit, this is the first I've really heard about/paid attention to the "Bones" material - is it really a big deal or a potentially negative thing?

Especially on the larger miniatures?

I heard that it was similar to finecast, but with the proper casting techniques.

Havent used it myself, but that alone makes it sound good.

Just poking my head in here to provide anecdotal evidence that the Bones material is pretty awesome.

Just finished a Bones Minotaur the other day, and everything went really smoothly (I picked it up at my FLGS to test out a model before committing to the Kickstarter). The tail and his cleaver were bendy, since they were rather thin, but they went right back into place and never stayed out of position for long. It held the paint I was using (Vallejo and Citadel) very well, no need to base it at all.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: Bones is awesome and I wuv it ever so much. Spend all your money on this thing.

Go forth and amplify, here come the NOISE MARINES!

Hmm, with the ability to swap out sophie, even more tempted to jump on this. Would take the other two male/female Giant sets and add $10 for one of the Dragons.

Ga'h, gonna have to think it over. So much stuff though, some one from Reaper just said to buy all the figs plastic/metal that you get in the Vampire level is $1086, that's madness.

High quality acrylics (Vallejo, Reaper MSP, P3, Coat d'Arms, Citadel, etc.,) are actually quite flexible when dry, so they stay on the slightly bendy parts just fine.

It's slightly more flexible than finecast, but with no casting imperfections. There are slight mould lines that take a bit more time to remove than metal ones. I use an emery board cut to a point. Files are not great at removing the mould lines, but a knife blade probably works the best if you're in a hurry.

Do I wish it was a little harder and less bendy? Definitely. Is it still great? Yes.

Not finecast, not resin - it is a proper plastic (yes...resin is plastic...blah, blah, blah). Bones is PVC as opposed to Polystyrene like hard plastic miniatures or polyurethane like resin cast figures. Same type of material as they use to plumb houses with - only a little more flexible of a blend. It is injection molded in big metal molds, like you do with a proper plastic - so no bubbles, not miscasts. The reason that a flexible plastic was chosen over a rigid plastic was that a few years back, Reaper was looking at the rising cost of metal and trying to figure out how to give their customers more value. They could redesign or create new miniatures and do them in hard plastic. They could do resin, though those are even more labor intensive than metal. Or they could use a softer plastic which is able to be injection molded and still have some level of undercuts. They chose the last option.

I posted these links a few pages back. They primarily talk about the material and how it compares to metal...since that is what was new about it. I like it a lot. Some people won't though I am sure.

Hmm, is this material anything like the Heroclix or Star Wars miniatures plastic, or tougher than that?

It's PVC, so basically the same stuff as HeroClix, MageKnight etc.. only without the crappy pre-paints by $5/day-earning Malaysians.

Moving the casting over to Texas will only be a good thing for the quality, too... the main issue with outsourcing things to the East is that the companies over there often aren't familiar with the quality standards expected of the product and treat it in the same way as the cheap childrens toys they also make.
