i have 3 game stores in my area. one is now out of the question because i no longer feel welcome there. the other is nothing but warmachine players and i find them less appealing to talk to, and that is to say if anyone plays at all. the other is predominantly magic players and i havent seen anyone playing 40k there in a long time. tried to make that my hangout but gave up after 3 weeks of not having anyone to play. also, i get a sense of elitism there and dont feel welcome for a different reason.

people who dont let you have your own opinion,
So... your opinion on their opinion about your opinion is that they're not allowed to have their own opinion? Just trying to follow along here.
your strategy and tactics are always flawed, your ideas about how the game plays are wrong,
Well, these aren't necessarily opinions, these can be objective facts. If you think Unit A does X, but the book says it does Y, then, unfortunately, you are, indeed, incorrect.
If you continue to use Tactic A against Unit B and always fail in the tactic's objective... well, then that tactic *is* wrong, somehow flawed. If it works 50% of the time, then it's potentially viable, just needs refining, and tell the haters to bite you.
its wrong to state that it sucks that some armies cant do what they used to do because of 6th edition. what the hell is wrong with these people?
Many people are fans of the new edition, for a staggering variety of reasons. They don't view the changes to some units or some armies as terrible, because they find it brings it into better balance. Personally speaking, I haven't really noticed that any armies are suddenly fundamentally different from previous editions, but by the same token, I am more interested in the books for fluff than actually playing the game. Perhaps its in your presentation?

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

OP: I can see where you're coming from because I just had that kind of night just a few days ago. just like you there are three stores around me, one that seems to focus on M:tG, another on WarmaHordes, and finally the shop closest to me. I'm also very new to the game and only started playing at the tail end of 5th edition. In general I feel like there just plain aren't many players nearby, or that the friendly ones might have been driven off by your so called donkey holes. all that are left act as if you're wasting their time by taking your turn and scoff at everything you do. hell i by the end of the night i was so frustrated that the thought of selling my models came to mind, shortly followed by "who's left who will buy them?". I don't know, man. gaming is tough. some of the donkey holes seem to have it in their head that spending thousands on models makes them better than those just starting to learn the game. I guess the best any of the newbs can hope for is just keep looking. like someone offered, I'm gonna leave flyers at my three local game stores looking for 40k players and hope for the best. good luck, i hope things start looking up.

Yea Warhammer/40K players can be the worst. I believe it is some sort of combination of lack of social skills and playing a competitive game brings it on. That's why I don't do tournaments and rarely play against people I don't know - which means I don't play that many games.
I got driven out of one gaming community because the would be ***hats to me because I played Bretonians in fantasy, according to them I was going for cheese. Even though my list (which was all the models I owned) was pretty fluffy.
Before you write off the whole community though check yourself and make sure you aren't the one being a donkyhole. Again us gamers sometimes can lack social skills which usually means you don't realize you are acting like the nozzle of a women's feminine hygiene product.
However if you can stick with it and learn to deal with these ***clowns you have had some great real-world you can carry over into working in the corporate world!

It is terrible that you feel pushed away from other gamers and don't feel welcome. Gamers do not always posses all the normal social skills(though there are many that do) and can sometimes be hard to be around. I do agree with We though, you may want to step back and look at if you did something or are doing something that may be contributing to the problem(you very well may not be though).
I did look at some of your posts and it seems like you start off very negative in a lot of cases about things in 6th, there may be a few things to consider if you really feel that your army(or important parts of it) is bad for now, you could attempt to adapt your play-style to the new edition or you may want to take a break from 40k for a while and wait for a new Tyranid codex to come out, the third option would be to consider picking up a different army(I would suggest Orks cause they are awesome ), and your last is that you could decide to drop 40k(for a while or permanently) and look into other games.

Perchance it has something to do with your generalization that all WH40k players are jerks... Take a deep breathe, have a little think, and rewrite your opening post in such a way that it doesn't make people have a negative opinion of you. As it is right now, you won't gain much sympathy.

You might be unlucky with the gamers in your area or local stores, but not all gamers are A-holes. I think you'll find that most gamers are pretty even-keeled when it comes to 40k.
Attend a few tournaments, ignore the dickholes, and get the names of people that you enjoyed playing. Then, invite them to play in a weekly/monthly gaming schedule with you.
Best of luck. Don't let losers kill your enjoyment.

Play with friends, if they don't want to just keep with the hobbie slowly and talk about it with them I was in the same spot and then I got one of my friends to play and it cascaded into now i have 12 friends who play and we have had plenty of people at game stores try to play with us but as soon as they try to rule nazi us we end the game because none of us are playing to be the best we are playing to have fun. We once had a guy walk up to our table at the LA bunker and and start yelling at one of my friends because he moved into a ruined building (we didn't know that normally you are supposed to make a difficult terrain roll) but we had been doing it the entire game so we said ok well we are playing where you don't have to roll, and the guy flipped out and started yelling and complained to the manager. but we have also met and played with some awesome people that have helped us learn it in nice friendly games. what I am getting at is don't get discouraged by crappy players that take a game that you move army men around a table and roll dice to seriously, find and play with a fun group of people even if it is just one other person you can stand.
